Cheers Jack, it’s only off the old dash cam but it’s ok.... must invest in a go pro to stick on the bonnet as I don’t think the Osmo pocket would appreciate being hung out there at speed 😂

    That's some serious equipment.
    Who controls the trailer steering?
What weight do the tractor units operate at? Can they transfer weight from the trailer to the drive axles?

I controlled the trailer steering on site with this load as the rear steersman.
The rest of the time it steers automatically via hydraulic rams in the draw bar header which sends oil down the hydraulic circuit to rams in each set of axles which are all inter connected with steering arms to ensure all of the wheels turn in sync.
The ballast weighted tractor units weigh in around 40t give or take depending on the job it’s set up for.
You cannot transfer weight onto the unit as in a set up like this the truck and the trailer itself are independent units and as such are actually even classed as two totally separate vehicles on the movement permit.

@@Priestabload Thanks for that information. I drive regular artics myself, but wouldn't have any experience or knowledge of heavy haul, so for me this is very interesting.

@@patodwyer721 Me too Pat, 25 years ago I used to deliver to sites plastic & steel gas main pipe & equipment with regular 13m trailer for 12m steel and a custom 9m with HIAB for small sites. There were plenty of those in rural Devon & Cornwall. A few memorable ones I thought i'd never get out of.
Five years ago I had my boat moved from Germany to SW France on a low loader by a specialist, the German driver was mustard (very good) They carry their own supply of beer in the escort van wherever they go. Big thumbs up to all the heavy haulage boys out there, you deserve that pint at the day's end.
