Once a year (when I can), I make a completely biased song pick to be my honorary "birthday song choice" on July 1st.
This year, I've gone with one of my favorite songs from my favorite VG soundtrack, Final Fantasy VI, a song I feel doesn't get a lot of appreciation: Metamorphosis.
It only plays three times in-game, and is a bit on the short side (clocking in at around 35 seconds), but I always felt it was extremely effective at giving that 'all hell has broken loose' feel that matches what is going on when it does show up.
I actually had a version of this I was working on way back in 2013 that never got finished. At least I have 8 years more experience under my belt to do it far better than I could've back then!

It's cool that his theme really encapsulates this attitude, really playful at the begginning but it grows more chaotic and dramatic as it goes
I love how by that point we'd already seen him enslave Terra and force her to kill and we STILL underestimate him.

Damn, you captured the insanity and intensity of this theme dead to rights, you knew that everything was completely and utterly fucked when this began cranking. I salute you sir, this was brilliant.
This is great, captures the same feeling of insanity as the original. That moment in the game when Kefka goes from a total pushover to screwing over the planet with this song playing really caught me by surprise when I played the game.
I saw the title, blanked for a bit, then said “YES” out loud. This is an amazing, tension-filled song and one I think is underrated among the rest of FFVI. That little silence at 0:20 is so good at building the theme.
I agree! I was blindsided by seeing this done, and by one of my favorite arrangers to boot. A wonderful surprise!
The score for this game is still one of the most apt storytelling scores. This song builds basically off of two of the primary themes, Terra's and Celes's, which they've established represent hope and love. The song takes the time to throw both down the drain and really show you how badly Kefka is just fucking up the entire planet. When hope and love have both been killed, what is left?

Kefka still is to this day the best Villain to come out of FF in general. The others just don't compare to how petty and evil his actions are just to feel something.

Kefka is pretty much the best. But Emmet-Selch is high up there.
Emet selch is lockstep with Kefka. Kefka was pure evil, while emet made the good guys look seriously at what they had done
I knew there'd be an FFXIV comment in here lmao. They ain't wrong though, XIV definitely competes; hell, imo exceeds. Still bewildering an MMO has that good of a story.
I really like the fact that a game with a vilain named Kefka has a track called « metamorphosis ».

I don't even remember when I first saw the cutscene and heard this song. But still the world being destroyed while this theme plays still gives me goosebumps.

When we were kids playing this, this was our version of "when the Doom music hits".
That and "The Unforgiven". Those two songs were the highlight of most every "shit getting real" moment in the game.

This track was always the most horrifying shit in the series for me
The entire world getting literally broken while your party gets ripped to shreds all over the world.
You spend the entire second half just rebuilding your party from the damage they suffered on just that one day while Kefka just destroys whatever he wants from his tower
And than you finally meet him and realize Mad God was never more fitting a name than in his case
I grew up with this game on SNES, I must have been 8 or 9 the first time playing it. Talk about a first realization of plate tectonics, holy shit. lol
They did the mythology for final fantasy 6 so well.
All these ancient powers awakening in the world after Kefka's destruction.
I would give anything for this to have a remake that is as faithful to the original as the Super Mario RPG Remake is.

Out of all the FFVI songs I can think of, I was absolutely not expecting this. The addition of Kefka’s theme was a great touch.

I cannot stop listening to this arrangement.... it's so fantastic, from the solo to the blend with Kefka's theme and then some. Final Fantasy VI was such a masterpiece from beginning to end, and this just elevates it even further. I even muted a recent playthrough at the end of the Floating Continent and replaced the music with this. (FIVE MINUTE TIMER LET'S GO!)

The only bad song in Final Fantasy VI is the end credits theme and that's because you have to restart the game to play it more.
Update: I have listened to the full OST, and have come to the conclusion that yes, it's all good.

This song was so burned in my mind at that particular szene at Thamasa. That song when Kefka suddenly showed his real madness. Beating up all of our heroes, killing Yura, all other espers and finishing off the overpowered General Leo... That was one of the most darkest scene FF6 had to offer

Metamorphosis is such a good song. As is the boss theme for Atma Weapon, The Fierce Battle. Since both happen in the same place, I always like to play them back to back in my head.
