- The Moon Theme from Duck Tales for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1989) originally by Hiroshige Tonomura and expanded for The 8-Bit Big Band. I've always loved this incredibly optimistic melody and composition, with a unique intro that switches between 4/4 and 7/8 so seamlessly!

Some of the most underrated talent on RUclips
Here here!
Agreed in every term
They’re gonna get really big on RUclips if there’s any justice in this world
Oh absolutely. Every cover is absolutely spot on
He's a bit more than underrated, his arranging is so god tier. Charlie Rosen might just be one of the best arrangers I've ever seen
"She turned into a bird!"
"Wasn't she a bird before?"
I'm clinically dead
2:25 for the people wondering....LOL
Hearing this theme on the new DuckTales show legit made me tear up. It's one of the best NES tracks ever, and this orchestra kills it.
I was amazed they decided to go for it.
@@evilmiera i mean it was on the moon and it's ducktales, they had too
Ya, there's something about this song that also brings a tear to my eye. It's so beautiful. Personally I think the NES version is the best still, even almost 40 years later
This is one of those pieces where attention to detail is everything. If I hear that you didn't do the 15/8 thing in the first couple bars, I'm gone. This was an amazing cover on so many more levels than that. Love it!
Shout out to ymfah for showing me all these amazing covers
Hop on
And grab the right side of the bucket.
- BUCKET FLY GLITCH -
Skip the lab. Go straight for the tower.
You need 1 paper roll and 1 charcoal so buy them before hand.
*AIN'T STEALIN*
*IF HE'S DED*
Man this cover makes it sound like a mario kart 8 track
Especially with that key change near the end!
The power of the sax
i thought the same thing!!
Rainbow Road vibes!!
I was thinking Mario galaxy, which works since it’s the moon theme
Hiroshige Tonomura deserves waaaay more credit. This theme is ingenious! I've always loved it.
This sounds so much like something out of Mario Galaxy
Or monster hunter
@@znightowlz6585 Yeah, that's true too
Nobody gonna say anything about the trombone solo guy? It hurts as a trumpet player to admit, but Jesus that was gorgeous. So was the rest of everything, to be fair.
Both the bone and trump solos were much better than the alto. That guy needs to calm down. Tone sucked too.
I recognize this melody, because it's been used so much in documentaries about nostalgic topics like old video games, but I never knew it had anything to do with Duck Tales.
Tbh, I'd never had any idea where the song came from; it just seemed like royalty-free "nostalgia music" to me. Lol
NerdGroovy One of my favorite things about the new show is that they actually reference this theme in a really cool way! I won’t mention how because of spoilers, but I highly recommend the new cartoon
Well you know for damn sure that this Disney music is, in fact, not royalty free
@@julianlee4227 This is music by Hiroshige Tonomura
, not 'Disney'
@@pj2yyy2 Yeah, but Disney still owns the right to it you know.
@@wordedpuppet6278 probably, although these sorts of copyright issues (especially back in the earlier years of video games) can be cloudy. Clearly Disney at least had, or obtained, rights to use it in their newer Ducktales cartoon, but ownership may remain with the original developers/publishers of the game.
The part starting at 2:45 is so incredibly hype. I love it so much!
and part before that I suddenly choked and cried
you know what makes this video powerful and meaningful?
The fact that no one there is doing it to get rich.
I love how in the reboot, this becomes Della's theme essentially. She sings it as a lullaby and sings it as she's trying to get off the moon. It's such a nice touch for her character.
This song hits differently after watching the Ducktales cartoon rendition (with lyrics!)
Whether you take it as canon, or not, it gives a new meaning to the song and definitely makes me sad thinking about it
Ducks
Yes ducks in outer space
From the Disney afternoon
Too the mooooooooooon!
🎶hey, Uncle Scrooge, won’t you take me along?🎶
Oh thank God I'm not the only one with Brentalfloss stuck in my head.
Sorry Della, *your* version just hold a candle to the original.
Ah yes, Brent fans
You could say “afterMOON” 😝
Why am I getting so much Nostalgia I've never even played the game broooooo
*BUT THE SONGS SO GOOD BROOOOOOO*
I can't stop smiling even though I've heard it dozens of times
Like A A A A A
SAMEEE
If this doesn't give you the feels, something is wrong. So congrats, your'e a person with human emotions!!!
Look at the stars,
My darling baby boys
Life is strange and vast
Filled with wonders and joy
Face each new sun
With eyes clear and truth
I'm not afraid of the unknown
Because I'll face it all with you
Look to the stars
And gaze up at the moon
Even as these days pass
I'm always thinking of you
Face each new day
And keep your hope alive
I promise I'll be there soon
It won't be long 'til I'm with you
I started ugly crying at this moment in the show because it hit my nostalgia so hard
CRAZY DUCK IN SPACE
False, the lyrics are BADA BADA BAAAA
@@loadeddice4696Only on the bridge section (god, Paget singing that but killed me 😂)
Della being absent in this video made me sad. Still good though!
어릴 적 느꼈던 설렘과 벅참이 느껴져서 노래 들으며 울컥했네요 멋진 연주입니다
can we just appreciate how skilled the drummer and harp players are
Yeah the drummer is very underrated
Drums were great! Harp was adding texture. Sax needs to stfu.
This video was just an excuse to write DuckTales 2017 fanfiction
Can confirm
@@rogermiller4434 Nice job, dude! I mean I say that but I only watched the first couple episodes so who knows
like number 69, nice
Where was I in this?
@@WoofWoofWhisper I think you may have been back on earth at this point.
Okay, this slaps
yes!!
Slaps harder than my dads belt
Slaps
Holy... I was JUST looking for versions of this the other day. What great timing. Excellent work as always.
It's amazing to hear not only the incredible talent in the performance and the arrangement, but also to hear just how much potential was in these old compositions that were so limited by the sound chips of the time. You know how everything you remember from childhood gets worse when you re-experience it? This is the opposite - it's like getting them again, this time in all the glory you didn't have the ability to truly appreciate as a kid. It's beautiful, and it brings tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for these amazing performances.
Well said
🎶 Look to the stars my darling baby boys

High school band director here. If you make these arrangements available for purchase you will sell more charts than Gordon Goodwin. We easily have a dozen Goodwin charts in our library and would purchase yours as well. With literally no evidence, I suspect 500k of your views are kids in HS jazz band! Thanks for considering. We are easy to find on the web. Sent a note if you have purchase links available. Thank you!
I literally teared up listening to this. thank you for bringing something so beautiful to the world.
The drum track of this arragement is amazing.
That 15/16 at the beginning damn! 👌
One of the only covers of this theme to actually go for the 15/16, mad respect for that
Just saw these guys in Boston and they opened with this; that's how I know I was in for a legendary show
It's DISGUSTING how abnormally fantastic your videos are as a whole. The music, audio quality, performance, arrangement, and the completely wonderful personal touch of the editing, bar none one of the best cover bands on youtube with their own flair worth suggesting to everyone.
Please marry me. All of you.
Love the trombone in this. Trombone doesn't get featured enough in remixes
Thanks for the kind words!!
@@JimmyOConnell87 Is that you getting the little solo section at 2:26? It's performed wonderfully. As someone who used to play, I know what it is to coax such sweet sounds of such a cruel mistress :)
0:21, OML, that freaking sax part, *insert cry emoji*, SOOOO good. I wish there was an arrangement for this so bad
Thought I'd be tired of Moon covers at this point, but apparently not. Totally loved it, amazing work! Probably the best Moon cover I've heard yet.
The drummer woke up and decided to go absolutely ballistic!
I'm curious as to how many people get this on their recommended feed, and whether they are subscribed or not. Because I am subscribed but stuff from this channel never ends up in my recommended. RUclips really seems to have a problem with promoting real talent. I want more of stuff like this recommended and less garbage that I never watch (Like watchmojo lists). These videos are amazing, thank you so much for making them! This channel will reach 1 million subscribers and beyond eventually I'm sure, you deserve so much more than you have, I just feel like the algorithm is for some reason screwing you guys over.
Likes help? (I really don't know.)
@@Klffsj yeah I believe liking and commenting helps with the algorithm, so always do that for favorite channels that you want to support I guess.
I came here from ymfah
I got recommended one of the Portal songs and saw this from the channel tab so can't help ya with that
My method is to hit "don't recommend channel" on all of the chaff that's become so prominent on the recommended - it takes a long time, but ultimately curates the experience to be focused in on things that you actually want!
You know a song is a masterpiece when you feel nostalgic for a game you never even played.
Okay, this is DEFINITELY one of the best arrangements of the Moon theme out there! Heck, I'd even say that it's right up there with Tee Lopes' cover, and their cover is my all time favorite arrangement of the classic theme! Great work you guys!
As a sax player of 20 years, I love all the love they get in this band. Too many times have I had to listen to the damn trumpets get all the fun melodies.
the moon theme has to be my favorite game soundtrack of all time
it's just such a good melody and it's soaked in nostalgia
The one person who disliked this is Flintheart Glomgold.
The other 44 are from Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys.
I would say also Mark Beaks, Magica DeSpell, General Lunaris, Bradford Buzzard and his two brothers, Black Heron, Steelbeak, John D. Rockerduck, maybe Gandra Dee, the Phantom Blot, and several other Eggheads and FOWL members... but there's already hundreds of Beagle Boys!
Tears. Just right away! This so god damn majestic! :'D
I am legit crying like a little idiot right now. This is so awesome! You all are fantastic! Thank you so much.
"A new episode of Darkwing Duck?"
You monster! Now I want new episodes of Darkwing Duck, which will never happen!
At least he's a part of the Ducktales reboot.
Don't say never, they did reboot Ducktales so its always possible.
-we know for a fact that Gosalyn will appear, I believe Taurus Bulba as well-
Maybe it wasn't exactly a new episode of Darkwing Duck, but last night's new episode of Duck Tales has finally put all the pieces in place to allow for a proper spin-off series.
I was just thinking about how much I wanted a video for this! 100% confirmed, I am psychic
1:47 onwards is a mood
That fill at 1:20 oml. And then cowbell!!!!
Brilliant stuff! :) Such a hopeful and whimsical arrangement :) LOVE the animation too :)
This legit feels like music that would play while an astronaut views earth from the moon
Amazing job! You guys do sooo well in all of these arrangements and I hope for the best in the future!
This is everything I could've ever wanted out of a modern Ducktales Moon remix. I love the little Ducktales '17 sprites, absolutely gorgeous 🥺
Still the best piece of that era. I was so excited they use it in the new DuckTales series.
Not only was the performance great, the presentation of the video was incredibly charming. Great stuff!
Seeing this played live in Boston last week was AMAZING! Such a great show from an amazing band!
Probably one of the most brilliant songs ever written for a video game and y’all nailed it. Amazing!
man, this actually sounds like the credits to a video game.
This should be the opening to every Disney Spectacular.
This tune always hits right in the feels.
My favorite track from the album, glad to have a great video to go along with it now
I have no idea how this theme blew up as big as it has, but I love it. Brings back good memories. When the game didn't freeze, that is.
Nowadays when you hear this song, you can only imagine it with one of two lyrics:
1- Brentalfloss’ gag comedy lyrics
2- Della Duck’s heartwarming lyrics
It kinda depends on the tempo. Fast for Brent, slow for Della.
So glad I'm not the only one who hears both.
oh my gosh the way that trombone swells
omg the jazzy music is velvety smooth to my ears, but the cute 8 bit animation is the cherry on top! suscribed!!
I feel like this is the only arrangement I’ve heard that gets the opening 15/16 time signature correct. Well done!
This!
First time I heard this I absolutely screamed out of joy. This is my favorite version of this beautiful song, hands down.
MY CHILDHOOD
I FORGOT THIS WAS FROM THAT GAME
THANK YOU
Several musicians claim that the Duck Tales NES game has the best NES music soundtrack of any NES game ever released. Sure, it's limited by the capabilities of the platform, but as you can see, when you free the soundtrack from those limitations, the composition behind it is actually awesome, quite complex, and has a lot of depth. For example, the intro of this song is 15/8, while the rest of the song is 4/4. And if you look at the sheet music, you will see that this song uses complex chords and quite unexpected chord progressions. Just listen to this big band version. It could easily have been the intro music for some big national evening TV show in the 60s. The other levels have great songs, too. The moon theme is epic but I also like the Amazon theme a lot.
bless u for keeping the intro in its original meter
WOW This is the BEST cover I have ever heard of this EVER. Hands down. Y'all are amazing.
0:49 the best part by far I LOVE THE 8 BIT BIG BAND
The best video on RUclips.
This is absolutely incredible.
Everyone: 2020 is the bleakest year for humanity.
Me, refusing to believe it as 2020 has graced us with this magical cover.
Who else saw this on Spotify and has been waiting ever since?
I waiting for it since they played it in Boston last week
I’ve been waiting for this since we recorded it over a year ago.
This gives me straight up chills
in a good way :)
Man I remember liking this song when I was a kid back in 1990 playing this Game on NES
I really wish they would have had the camera on the drummer from 2:00 to 2:05 that part always makes me smile!
One of, if not THE best song to come from a video game!
As always, you guys NAILED IT!
Always a treat to hear vg musical arrangements by you!
The little adventure during the video was pretty sweet as well!
oh my god the art on the left at 2:16 is so adorable
1:42 let's play a game called "Shakespeare or Margit, the Fell Omen"
Love this video for so many reasons: nostalgia for those early 90s days playing the game; the inclusion of harp in a big-band; the execution of the half-time feel at 1:37; and, perhaps above all...the multiethnic, multigendered makeup of this iteration of the band!
Arrangement, performance, groove, adaptation. 10/10. Well done guys!!
hell yeah I love the song and this arrangement of it is fantastic, great stuff!
Welp, this made my day, week, month, and year.
This is fantastic! The chills this brought me. Unbelievable you guys!
The seeds of melody are potent, the soul and the logos of music water it and it flourished. - me? Thankful for your work 8BBB
This knocked my socks off so hard, it put a hole in the wall. Subscribed, and I'm sending this to everyone.
Sax man really killed it. Great job from everyone really
This people are so talented
With each new sun,
with eyes clear and trueeeee
unafraid of the unknown
because i'll face it all with you
that bone solo was spot on.
Thanks!!!
I snuck this into my old job job's Christmas playlist
Live from the moon, it's Saturday Night!
A theme that would be a great news channel opener that no show is worthy enough to have!
When this song starts, I feel like the narrator is about to explain to me what the Great Pirate Era is and recap last week's episode
This arrangement... holy hell. Works like a charm!
It's not the easiest song to arrange. :)
And I appreciate the cowbell ;D
You guys are touching my 41yr old heart right now!!!
One of the greatest video game pieces ever! You guys performed it splendidly :D
I couldn’t click on this fast enough
Saw a video about you on Adam Neely's channel so I immediately searched Moon Theme to see what you could do. Good stuff!
the one dislike was from Magica de Spell lol
Makes it sound like a 70s variety show number 😂😂😂 Great stuff
