My husband's eyes changed and he tried killing me and then my Mom and I, and was threatening to saw himself etc. We brought him to the hospital, we were scared to death, and the nurses had to hold him down, he was having a psychotic episode. He blames me to this day for it, says if I always agree with him it would never have happened. He screamed with rage. I always think that if I get murdered, it will be by him.

I'm not sure if that's right. He did want to keep them as a cover. And, like she said, they were the mice that would live. My psychopathic stepfather abused me but, even with my family members in the home while this happened, he managed to create a very different image of himself for them.

@@jayaom4946 same happened to me and my siblings. Our father was dangerously, physically abusive towards us. Even when we were as young as 2, he would start w/the physical assaults. He was all kinds of evil to us, but the outside world saw him as good, caring and a responsible father. It's amazing how their images can be soo different cuz they put a lot of effort in preserving their self image and projecting positive traits tht they are simply not and can never possess. I now speak of his abusive ways to people who never really knew him, but they have a hard time believing me.

The public was basically rude, mean, and condescending towards her, being like - how could you not know what he was doing?! When he was naked with her and she felt fear looking into his eyes, I wonder what stopped him from going into full psycho mode. His youngest known victim was only 12 (may Kimberly Rest In Peace), so I assume her age would not necessarily have been a deterrent. Was it genuine feeling for her? Feeling for her mother? Was he capable of feeling love, compassion, kindness? Or was more likely that he was able to realize, “no I can’t do this because I’ll be an obvious suspect?” What stopped him?

When she talks about that part, when he was naked etc., she says that, somehow, something inside her told her how to handle the situation. I don't think she really names the source. I have always wanted to walk the Appalachian trail but I was certain there were murderers out there and that I would be killed if I went alone. I still feel this way about any place that it not out in the open. When I was seven my mom and dad would go out drinking and they would leave me alone until morning. I would balance a spoon on the door knob and lean it on the wall so if anyone came in it would fall and make a loud sound. I would then sleep on the floor in a part of the apartment where I could reach the fire escape in case I had to run. Then came David Berkowitz and a few others that scared me even more.

Honestly as a woman living in a world where women are increasingly unsafe, I watch things like this to learn whatever I can about protecting myself. Girls are taught at a very young age that we have a duty to be prepared to deal with these situations because they happen all the time to girls and women everywhere. Little girls get snatched on their way home from school. Teenagers get abducted while waiting for rides, or drugged by their peers at parties, or taken advantage of by their friends or boyfriends. And women? They have it even worse than young girls. Every day is open season on them. As gruesome and uncomfortable as it is to watch things like this, it’s better to learn and stay alive than remain ignorant and end up dead.
