- My hair desperately needed to be toned, so I thought I would share the process with you :) The color I used this time was 5/71 from Wella Color Touch.
The most important things to remember when toning your hair:
1) Use a demi permanent color
2) Use 10 volume developer or lower
3) Apply to clean, towel dried hair
4) Select a color that is the same level or darker than your starting color

This was the most helpful toning video I've ever come across specifically for brunettes! Thank you!
Same over here, and exact issue I needed solved- this was the only video I found that did what I wanted and I learned stuff too👍🏽👍🏽
Very helpful to me, especially considering it looks like we have similar skin tone and eye color! I've been having such a hard time trying to figure out what colors would look best on me and make my eyes pop, and this tone is beautiful on you!!
Thank you for this. This is exactly the information I've been looking for. So helpful!
You're the first person who makes me go natural again lol. I love the color
Love the chocolate brown on your skin tone! Gorgeous girl!
Thank you for makin this one. I cant wait to go to Sallys and score some of this color. Your results are gorgeous!!!!
You just saved me so much money sis! I love your videos! Thank you!
I’ve also had it really help clients (and even myself sometimes) when wanting to find the level is to take a pic of the level finder swatches or the one you believe to be closest right next to a piece of their hair and then make it black and white. At that point, the tone doesn’t play a factor in tricking the eye & you can usually clearly see the level of lift. This was a game changer for me ! ❤️👍🏻
Thanks for the tip!
Always find out so much with your hair videos! I loved the blonde on both of us but I understand wanting to go back dark. I did it too and I think I'm going to stick with it:)
So happy to hear that! :) Yeah, dark hair is just easier for now, especially as I'm trying to continue growing it out.
Loved your video, very well explained, thanks!
Extremely helpful, all this time I just needed to tone 😅 thank you for the info!
This was the best video! I’m so glad I found it!
W O W! SO Helpful, Queen!!! 🤎✨ Thank you for sharing your knowledge. My DIY at home heart is so grateful 🌌💫
thank you sooo much this was great. I may try to take on doing my own hair so thank you!
Love the color. Looks nice and rich.
Excellent information. I figure led this was the right way! I went to Sally’s because my hair was brassy and she told me to use volume 20! But not what I thought because it will add to the brassy I already have!
You’re so beautiful. I really love this look. Subscribed!!!!! 💕 💕 💕
Thank you so much 🥰
Ur an amazing teacher! Thank u
Beautiful Sam 😍. I love how you walk us through. Your hair texture is so pretty. You rock blonde & brunette ❤️!!!
yes love this! I’m going back to brunette after having a blondish balayage so this is such good info for me.
Yessss curls come threw ❤️❤️
I love this!
Super helpful for this brunette. Thanks!

That looks GREAT! You make such informative videos!!

Girl I was waiting for this video 👐 Thank you ❤
Very helpful for brunettes, thank you!
Loving your long hair Sam and color came out wonderful , Your always and forever will be my go to on utube! 💜
Heyyy love your videos! I need some hellpppp pplease!
So my hair looks just like your "before".. I already have several different wella toners, but not the color you have. Could I use one of these and get a similar result: T10, T15, or T27? These are what I have i can't get something different right now. So if you could help. That'd be great. Oh and which developer to go with, if different from what you suggest in the video
Super helpful! Is it okay I try this using Wella Color Touch Vol 6 (1.9%)?
Omg thank you so much 😭😭😭💜I have the exact same problem.
This video is great. We have the same color hair and the same reddish/brassy issues.. even happens with sun.
What color or color mixture would you suggest in the Wella color charm Demi line since I am not a pro I can’t get that line (I don’t think I can anyway). That line doesn’t have a 5 ash was thinking of combining 4n or 5N with 8a for the Ash But wasn’t sure.
Thanks, great video.
I know this was a year ago but i desperately need help with my hair. A year ago I dyed my naturally dark brown hair a medium/light chocolate brown with box dye 💀. I HATED that brown so I dyed it a 2 darkest brown. The dark brown faded very quickly and I’ve just been dying it again and again a dark brown. Now I have redish orange undertones so I decided to use a blue shampoo .. the blue shampoo didn’t work very well and it looks like my hair got lighter and I have orange and red everywhere. I don’t know what to do. I want to go back to my natural color but I doubt I would be able to now .. 😞
Hi my hair is exactly like yours before the toning. I did love the results after the toning but if I want slightly lighter than your final results should I continue with the 5 and change the second number 11? I am a little confused!
What do you think is the most important to study for my Ohio state boards of cosmetology? I am so nervous !
Hey I have kinda long hair would I need to buy two of the colour touch ?💕
is it ok if the colour overlaps your virgin hair? will it lift it? thanks!
I was just looking for a video to tone my hair and I got a notification!!! 😁😁😁😁
Perfect timing :)
Oh my gosh...me too!!!!
My natural hair is a 5. I have my whole head done once a year and roots a few times a year as have a few greys. My hair fades alot throughout the year and i prefer the colour once its faded a bit. I have just had my whole head re done level 5 but i feel my ends are too dark. Any advice on what i should i ask for when i get it done next year so its not so dark on the ends? She did my roots first for 20 mins then my ends and left it on another 20 mins.
Thank you!
Hey! I had light brown highlights and I dyed my hair a reddish color it turned out dark brown reddish looking and I feel like my hair looks super dark how can I lighten the color ???
I coloured my hair twice with two different store bought dyes. Both were aiming to be blond, one was an ash blonde, the other was a beige blond. However as you probably already know, it was a spectacular failure. Not only did my hair not become blond, but instead it pulled so much brassiness into my hair,I hated it. So I watched, multiple videos on how to remove the brasiness. I went to a beauty supply place and purchased Wella permanent, not Demi colour in beige blond along with 10% hydrogen peroxide and some Wella cool tone in violet, I mixed it all together. After washing it off. It did absolutely nothing. My hair remained brassy! What did I do wrong?? My natural colour is brown with grey roots. I’ve always been a blond. But I stopped going to my hairdresser bc I just did my roots myself. But now I’ve really screwed up and I dont know how to fix it. Please help, should I buy darker colour toner and continue to dye my whole head with a mixture that includes 10% peroxide? Or Do I bleach my whole hair with 20- 30% peroxide first and then add ash blonde toner mixed in with it? How does this work.? Frustrated😒
How many minutes do you like the toner?? How many shampoos last the demi color??
I literally just did this Thursday 🤎
For how long do you leave it on?
They recommend using their emulsion with the colour touch... can I still do what you did?
My hair was just professionally highlighted last Friday and I hate it. I wanted to be rich, cool chocolate. Teased and not so close to the scalp. They were very caramel and orange, some parts kinda blonde but not happy about them at all and the demarcation lines are bad. Stylist had amazing reviews but 🤷🏽♀️. I’m a brunette and I haven’t had a good experience ev
I used this same color and brand (5/71) and my hair looks black and the highlights are super red 😭.
I would love some advice as to what I can do? I want a cool rich brown that looks barely sun kissed and lived in with some dimension. Wish the highlights looked cooler. I’m going to stick to my natural hair and avoid stylists but I could use help here.
Hi Sam I still love color touch xx hi from Ireland
How often do you have to tone ?
I cant get rid of orange/red golden undertones
Silver madk dosent help
What tone would you recommend for someone with blue black hair trying to tone when it’s fading ?
Sorry if it's a stupid question .theres toners that give you that blue black look ?
Sam, have you seen the hack where you turn tour camera phone to black and white and then when you hold your hair up to a chart it's more obvious what level your hair is?
Yes that’s a pretty old trick! I find it really helpful when dealing with reds! :)
Is it possible to tone down reddish or faded color without going much darker? Or would you have to lift it up higher first? I want to keep my hair at a 7. It is already damaged and fragile so I don't want to lift it further (that's also a bit complicated for me) so I'm not sure how to maintain it when it gets faded and goes orange. Any demi permanent I add seems to darken it to a 6 which is not what I'm looking for.
Cooler tones will always look darker, so while yes, you can neutralize a brassy level 7 and still keep it at the same level technically, but it will look darker. So yeah, you would have to lift a bit more, but if your hair is already damaged, I would leave it alone and not lighten it anymore.
This is exactly what I wanna dooo
💞
I suggest talk about no sulfates fast hair growth shampoo.
I miss your story times and reactions to followers hair!😭
I miss doing them! I'll do some more soon :)
❤💯
it will not look red in future?
If I have a red semi permanent (shades eq) what would I need to do to get rid of the red and just go back to brunette level 5 or 6?
I would do the Malibu crystal gel treatment a few times to pull as much of the red out first, then tone with a green based color to neutralize the remaining red.
@@styledbysamvay i appreciate you! 🫶🏼
Hi Sam thanks for this video! I was just wondering if you maybe could help me. I love my hair color in certain lightings, but when I stand under a yellow light or bright sunlight my hair shifts VERY red. I had a redish brown color before (I think it was 4/77) and then decided I wanted to go a darker cooler brown to get rid of the red. I got the wella color touch in 4/0 as recommended by a hairstylist but it didn’t hide the red undertone as I now understand from your video that I needed a cooler tone brown. Do you think I could use the same one you’re using in this video? Or do you maybe have another wella color touch recommendation to make my hair a cooler tone?
I’m trying to fix my red hair thats supposed to be brown too. I was going to go with 4/71. do you know what developers are good to buy?
@@cindycampelli2126 I think that’s the one I’m going for as well! And for developers I figured I would stay with wella color touch emulsion 1.9%.
@@cindycampelli2126 I hope it works out lol
@@Gabi-vl6wt did it work ? Bc I Have the same problem. With no sun light I have brown and a bit of red but once I’m under the sun it’s just red and I hate it (´༎ຶོρ༎ຶོ`)
@@user-mt4ot2xl5h don’t do it! It turned out blackish purple I hated it so much I had to buy color oops lol. Maybe it will turn out better if you use the one she had in the video (I used one shade darker, wella 4/71) but I did some research after I dyed it and it seems like the best bet would’ve been to use a brunette toner with green undertones, matrix has one called dark envy mask, or even using a few drops of semi permanent green hair dye and mixing it with a semi permanent brown shade to cancel out the red. Even though it will wash out faster than demi color I feel like it’s safer than ending up with black purplish hair lol I hope this helps!
I was given (at Sally’s) a 7 medium sand blonde for my orangie red hair I got after a color remover session I did on me. I tried a few strands to test the result and I lost the pieces Lol So this means it did nothing. Do you think I could mix this shade with a medium brown dye I already have? It’s permanent though so not sure if I could mix it with the Demi
I can’t for the love of god, get out this red. I’m level 8, it’s strawberry blonde at this point. Use ashes and neutrals. Will not budge
HOLA, Mi AMOR 💕🙂👍💯
Why Paul Mitchell cape if you didn’t graduate from there?
The salon I work at carries Paul Mitchell
I suggest check out fortified shampoo for fast hair growth.
