- This week the 3 fellas from Soar Valley Steel Boats have been back working their magic in the engine bay. Working between heavy rain and winds they get enough done for us to hear the engine run for the first time 👍
Engine fit is going very well and having the batteries and onboard power will be fantastic.
Cheers Keith 👍
Great to see the heart finally beating, very professional looking job, I'm sure its going to give you many years of wonderful cruising....great job, as always looking forward to the next one. Cheers, Nigel
Cheers Nigel, Yes hope so. It has been good seeing it all put together and it will help us know how to fix things in the future and what goes where if we ever have to change anything. Hopefully we will get a break in the heavy rain this week for them to come back to do a bit more 👍
Another major milestone. Congratulations.
Thankyou 👍
Really missed you last week. Congratulations! 🍾 can’t wait to the crane or tractor putting you two in the water soon I hope. Looking forward to seeing what’s next. Susan
Cheers Susan 👍
What a treat to here the engine run and first time, brilliant 👍
Cheers Martin 👍
What a clever team and so organised, the engine sound must have been music to your ears!! Jean x
They are Jean. Yes it was nice to know it all worked after the long wait. Just waiting for a gap in the rain for them to come back to do a bit more 👍
They are the best invention yet so easy and clean for refuelling in any marina or cut. I have had mine for 3 yeas and still going strong. Best have paper roll when you lift out of drum a quick wipe and no smell afterwards. Fantastic update engine bay looks very clean and tidy. Engine sounds sweet.
Cheers John. Grandad has now treated himself to one and yes can see it is going to make refuelling much easier. Yes hoping to run her for a little longer once the water and coolant goes in 👍
Great to see the engine running,it looks to be a first class job.😀
Thankyou Simon 👍
Great job , I know from my
Limited experience of narrowboats (holidays) that engine bays suffer a lot of rust and condensation especially around battery trays , as they’re not insulated and have hot and cold cycles with the engines etc , I can see you’re on top of it not leaving any surface unprotected though grand job ! Again lol
Thankyou Christopher, Yes as soon as you let your guard down rust appears. It is one job we are going to do regular 👍
Nanny and Grandad congratulations that finally the heart of the boat is beating. Now quickly into the water and enjoy the wet stuff also called water
Thankyou Raymond, It will be spring now before we hit the water. Once all the flooding and high water dies down and all the canals open up again. We still have some of the expensive electrics to buy and fit so we don't mind waiting 👍
Brilliant! What a wonderful custom installation! So great to hear Wanderlust taking her first breath! She's ever closer to making her big splash! Congrats!!!
Thankyou, Yes it was good to know she starts after the long wait 😁.👍
Engine sounds lovely a very nervous skipper starting her up lol.
Cheers 👍. Yes I was very nervous that I was going to mess it all up turning that key 😆
That's a real achievement. I thought you were a fuel filter short just as you explained that you were going to fit one. If you've put the cooling water in,, make sure there's plenty of anti freeze in it for the winter. Stay well both.
Cheers George, Yes we thought the 2nd filter came with the engine and when we realised one wasn't going in we went and got one. No water is in yet but yes Ian has got it all ready for when he comes back to do a bit more. 👍
A beating heart at last. That's a huge step forward. Well done guy's.
Thankyou, It certainly is 👍
Looking good in the engine bay you two. Are you chomping at the bit to put some water through prop ? Excellent boat 😊👍
Cheers Andy, We will be launching in spring now and yes really looking forward to it. We still have some of the expensive stuff to buy and fit so its given us a bit of breathing space over the winter to save up. We are loving watching your fit out and its coming on great. We have been watching everyones vlogs on our tv so keep meaning to come back on the laptop to comment but once we have binged watched them all i cant remember what comment goes on what vlog lol. Glad your watching 👍
Exciting hearing the engine going! Congratulations!
Thankyou Glen 👍
Two welders or one grandad 😂😂
Lots of great work and great to hear the engine run. How are you finding life with the weather and season changes? Christmas is just around the corner, hopefully time for a break for you both.
Thankyou, It has turned very wet now here and there is a lot of mud in the boat yard. Season changes are fine we just have to be a bit more organised for winter than we would have in a house but a quite used to it. Its nice and warm in the boat so we don't mind a bit of rain. Yes we will be having a break over Christmas and having some much needed family time👍
Preparing for winter might make for an interesting Vlog!
I hope that welding didn’t spoil the paint on the outside of the hull😮
All ok just the bit around the exhaust will need some blacking. There is more holes to be put in yet so will touch them all up at the same time 👍
A big leap forward, you must be delighted.
Tow comments that isolator switch, I'd have thought it would have been green for off, all safe, no power anywhere and red for danger warning that the circuits were live. Sorry but I also agree with the comment about the battery box. Why did you put a front on it? a simple bolt on restraining strap or plate would have been much better and saved Grandad from getting a hernia!
Thankyou Tony, Yes thats a good point, sounds more logical. Not sure about the battery boxes either and why they make them like that. There must be a reason but hopefully we won't have to change the batteries for a while 👍
@@makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg If this became a problem you could cut the front off anytime leaving a small flange to bolt a strap on.
That jiggle pipe will be great for unloading the tanker full of vodka for nana in to the starboard swim !!😂
hahahaha True
Why would you make battery boxes with a lip across the front?, do you like making life hard for yourself?, that whole front should've been a removable panel.
I agree. They could still do it though by cutting off the front and making it bolt on.
Not sure of the reason why they make them like that or what the boat rules say, we will have to look into that. Yes would of been easier with a lower front but they are in now and hopefully we won't have to take them in and out too often fingers crossed🤞
@@makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg Where the real danger is in trying to lift a battery over that front barrier, you run the risk of the terminals on the battery making contact with the underside of the floor and creating a dead short which could cause the battery to explode, if it was me I would have fabricated a frame using 40 or 50mm angle, you really don't need a box, and the one important thing you need is to put a rubber mat for the batteries to sit on.
sounds good curly, all the best
Cheers Dave 👍
