There are many types of onions out there. Generally speaking, the onions that store well are the ones that have thicker outer skins, a higher sulfur content, and lower water content.
For example, these store-bought Yellow Onions are great for storage because they have thicker skin. On the other hand, Sweet Onions may not last that long because they have thinner skin.
1. Store onions outside the fridge in a dry, dark, and cool place with a good air circulation.
2. Store halved onions, don’t peel off the skin, in a Ziploc bag, and place them in the fridge.
3. Store sliced onions in an airtight container in the fridge.
4. Freeze the onions.
5. Wrap whole onions in paper towels, place them in a cloth bag, and put them in the fridge’s crisper.

for the first time in my life i had to take advantage of government "commodities" ... well along with a ton of potatoes i got about 20 pounds of onions??? i love onions but had no idea how i would eat so many before they went bad. Your video along with others showed me i can really enjoy them now, later and even later... thanks!

You are not alone, we have had to do the same thing. We also got a huge bag of onions and I have been looking for ways that I could store them before they went bad. Sad thing is that most of the onions we got are about the size of a lemon, I don’t think the biggest one is the size of an orange. I’m still thankful and blessed for getting them! I wish better days ahead for you and your family.

Nice video. We just harvested a load from our garden. One suggestion though, the bags you are using are sandwich bags and are not tested for leaks. Ziplock storage and freezer bags are quality checked every 4 hours for bag and zipper leakage. Sandwich bags are not.

Lately since covid, I had issues with the double zip Ziploc bags that doesn't seal tight

I cut mine up and put the in ice cube trays and freeze them. When they are frozen I put them in vacuum sealed bags and store them in the freezer. When you need onion you take out how ever many cubes you need

Hi I dont have that big white bags so could i place my whole onion in airtight container an should I put in fridge?
I wonder what else one can use to wrap up the oinions instread of paper towels ? (dont want waste resources and save a 🌲 😉 )

Thought we can only cut/slice onions when using otherwise the onions can have bacteria if we cut in advance n use later.
Just need to store them properly after slicing them. ☺️

aaaaah that's why i somehow found myself suddenly full of flies in a spotless flat... stored onions next to potatoes in a shopping bag. As soon as i threw the onions away the flies flew away... no more food for them and their offspring
