Banana is fiiiine, especially in the blocking phase, but yea you have to break it up with smaller strands and an overall denser flow, otherwise it could look like play-dough! Hair is reaaaaly dense in details in real life, so if there's no details in the painting, is gives an awkward effect I think. To me, even just some color splattering to give an impression of detail already makes the job for a sketch phase :)
i'm really grateful that you share your thought process while doing studies and improving your art. i have been drawing for a while, but get discouraged when i see my bad work. now, i am trying to pick drawing back up again and push myself to trust the process. your videos have been a really good guide for my own studies! i definitely know how to practice smarter now after i have come across your videos c: thank you so much!
Ahh for comments like yours, I'm here. I’m so glad that I can help you with my videos. Don't despair, I've had bad drawings too, seriously. Few people talk about this, but learning is a process that never ends. I sincerely wish you good luck and patience 🙏🏻 everything will work out!!
I really like the way you render your art , so seeing you wanting to improve even more is very inspiring for me haha but tho the final piece is so pretty ❣thank you
Your way of studying improves by reducing the banana syndrome so much. It's still slightly bananas there in your longer hair design but keep working from chunky to detail and watch out for keeping the distance dynamic between from big to smaller details that are grouped wonderful instead of evenly distributed. You've got this!
I LOVE HOW YOU STILL SEARCHED FOR A SIMILAR STYLE LIKE BEFORE, AND REFERENCED SO WELL!! The way the styles you gathered was still blocky, but overall better, is just so great! And you stayed in your element with people that inspired you! It was nice seeing artist creds as well
I absolutely love your artstyle and the way you create objects from brushstrokes! Aaand even your banana-like hair looks pretty dynamic and luxuriant I think :D But when the hair becomes more detailed and airy, like thin strands, the art becomes more realistic and pleasant to my eyes. I am proud of you! (Sorry for the mistakes)
This video was really fun. Love your sense of humor 😂. I also struggle with hair a lot but thanks for reminding us to think of the overall shape of the hair before adding details later 👍
I struggled with the same thing, this video was very useful!! Thank you :D And btw, just wanted to say you have a lovely voice! Made the video very pleasant to listen too ^^
first of all I really love the rendering of your skin and how you drew that face,m it looks AMAZING AND especially how you rendered that blonde hair looked so GORGEOUS i was SOOO FASCINATED but i wanted to give some feedback to your initial hair rendering: I think some more individual dark lines on the top part of the head, and maybe some streaks of highlight, showing some more hair strains would look better because for me it looks more like a block of pink, except if you were going for a more simple look but then it kinda doesn't "blend" well into the lower part of the hair that is below the ear, around the neck area as this part seems more detailed then the upper part, it just comes off a bit unfinished the upper part in my opinion ro rather just glossed over (if that sentence makes sense?) I hope you understand even though english isn't my first language :') Other than that i think you're art looks amazing, this is my first video from you and now imma gonna search for some more
Wow. I didn't think people struggled with hair. I take it for granted because I have so much practice. I didn't think of banana hair. That is so goofy. It reminds me of the music video for "I'm Going Slightly Mad" by Queen. Freddy has a clump of bananas on his head and sings "I think I'm a banana tree." Oh my gosh! That song and video is a trip. This video definitely shows how hair can be improved. It is rendered more realistically without ruining the character designs. The method shown in the video is similar to how I render hair in digital art. I do something like that. Then I take it even further. I finish off by painting individual strands all over the hair. When I do, I maintain the shape, shading and color that was established earlier. Rendering hair doesn't just work for humans. It also works for certain animals. I do horses with hair texture. This texture is in their mane and tail. Most of the body has extremely short fur. That is tricky to render. I am not sure what is the best thing to go with. Grass also benefits from a hairy texture especially when it is in the background. Grass doesn't clump together very much. So it is a bit easier. Atmospheric perspective helps a lot when making realistic backgrounds. So I highly recommend making near grass darker and far grass lighter.
This video came in such a great time! Because I also have been painting hair in a very big mass (because of my old study of Porforever), and is trying to get out of my comfort zone.
I see an improvement, but it was quite small(although, it was a notorious one, i could see how the shapes were more natural and had more water-like flow) Practicing more could help tho.
Video drawing help then: How to improve your lineart! How to shade like a god! Video drawing help now: Everything you do and have done is wrong You have the (insert error) syndrome
does anyone have tips on what to do when making fanart of chat noir and adrien from mlb?? i need help 😭 (their hair is literally bananas from the source material idk what to even do atp)
You know whats funny? When I was in my teens, drawing and painting every day, and later in my twenties during university... drawing hair was so easy! Not gonna lie, drawing hair was my favorite thing of an entire character design. But then... I dont know what happened but somehow everything I found easy back then, seems an insurmountable struggle now, including hair. I will keep these tips in mind :)
I use the Brush Pen from Calligraphy set in Procreate and the '3 Olive' brush from Su Ke Brush Set: www.artstation.com/marketplace/p/Ogx7e/suke-brush-set-2023

A very good way to think of hair is by simplifying them into ribbons, it helps figure out the shapes and how the haie flows!

Wow thaaank you ❤️
I always end up drawing hair in the banana style bc it’s easier for me to animate 😭
I do the same lol
i think that simplifying things to make things easier to animate is important, so dont feel bad
I don't really see a problem with the bananas, but I like how you decided to try something new
😃 Thanks!
i'm watching this knowing i won't even listend to it because i love my banana hairs too much
