Whoever owns that property has one hell of a parcel. What a dream.

The owner is from Denmark I believe. He comes up every couple of years. He is in his 70’s but he can hike through that woods like he is in his 30’s. Really nice guy.

I believe the bridge was built in the 50’s but Im not sure if it the I beams have been reset since then. Im sure it has been re-decked numerous times since then. you are lucky to get 15 years out of a hemlock bridge deck.

Thought you were going to break the cable when you were trying to lift them matts off the ground with the skidder, good job

I really like the use of timber for timber, but I do question the decision of not installing a couple of large plastic culverts in the stream. They would give longer life to to bridge. Also not dropping rock rap onto the sides of the inlet area could prevent washouts in times of extreme water influx.

That bridge is Grandfathered in, but in order to make major changes I believe you would need permits and probably engineers. I think it would get costly. I believe thats why they just re-deck it instead of installing culverts.

I was going to ask you if it was dry enough to pull wood there yet, but then I saw you still have some snow left in places.

The snow is pretty much gone now but it is still too wet in the woods. As you probably know dry ground jobs here in Vermont are few and far between. I usually take the month of May and half of June to tinker on things and do Cut Split and delivered Firewood. I haven’t actually lined up any work for this Summer. I’ve turned down a couple of Jobs because I don’t think I can make a profit on them. My days of turning my skidder wheels just to break even are over. Ive learned you make almost as much money off the work you turn down as the work you take. It took me about 15 years and $20,000 in credit card debt to learn that lesson.

You could get that timber off those side hills. Them old 640 hold 200+ feet of 5/8. They love long winchin, aye.

I usually run 100’ but I think Im down to about 60 right now. I would put 200’ of cable on and cut the wood on those banks if the Foresters would let me cut only the trees that I choose instead of marking them…..
