We lived for a year in Sweden and for three years in Canada. Plus several years in West Virginia (USA). I remember cold winters and learning how to be comfortable in cold weather. Ideas for winter sleeping warmth: Knitted and crocheted blankets and lap robes bring cozy warmth in cold weather. But their irregular surfaces and little open spaces (with some stitches) can let needed warmth escape. If you cover one with a tightly woven sheet or blanket, your knitted or crocheted blanket becomes an insulating inner layer so that those spaces become insulated air pockets which can add significant warmth. Adding layers of blankets on top of your sleeping layers is traditional and effective. But also insulate below your sleeping layer for some protection from cold that rises from the floor/ground under your bed. A mattress pad on your mattress will help; blankets added to the mattress pad will help. An old rug or an extra layer of carpeting under your bed will also help. I use a large hand towel (not a full size bath towel) as head covering to keep my head warm while I sleep. Sleeping caps work well for some, but I prefer the lighter feel of the hand towel. I spread it over my head and turn up the corner that will expose my face. So my hair and neck are covered but over my face is open for easy breathing. That turned back triangle lightly doubles the cover on some of my head. I wear soft sleeping socks in wintertime because my feet tend to get cold, even under covers. All year long I spread a beach towel across the foot of my bed to help keep my feet warm.
I wear knit dresses around the house, short sleeved in the summer and long sleeved in the winter. Last winter I wore two knit dresses, one over the other, with sweatpants underneath both of them, and a heavy sweater on top of that. When it's really cold, I tuck a heating pad under the blanket I cover up with while sitting in the living room. I even got a down blanket to go over all that. The crowning glory to the whole outfit is my wooly hat. I keep the curtains tightly closed, because I'd hate for anybody to see me in that getup! But it is warm.
My energy company offered a fixed rate tariff for 12 months and I took it. We’ve also got storage heaters in our housing association home. Glad I took the offer now. Thank you Karen for the info x
Been thinking about this all morning. Little things add up, so I boiled potatoes for a potato salad, and then thought, "Hey, I can use this already heated water and cook up some rice." So I did that. Stir fry meal tonight or tomorrow is the plan.
I think I have some..gifted to me by my daughter who got them from her MIL. I look like a teddy bear from the waist down! Like some sort of woman/beast hybrid. Only wore them to exercise class once..I now just wear them around the house.
I think we are all going to struggle. I thank goodness i put my Woodburner in last year - imo, I used my windfall wisely, prepping for the future. But was anazing, how many folks wanted me to go on an expensive holiday ( a cruise)/ but a new car/ go out to eat with them more/ go to the theatre/ cinema etc etc instead of buy the woodburner!
Log burners are only banned as from April this year in newly built homes in Scotland. Existing homes can still have them installed. I know people who have had them installed in the last few weeks.
God bless all of us and keep us warm this winter.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Especially about insulating below the bed---I know that can help a lot.

@jankarel6454. I hope you’re never in a rush to get to the bathroom!! 😂😂
@@poppysmum9715 Thank you. That made me laugh!
The Fed Ex guy would be in for a shock!
Primark fleece lined leggings are great, also heat holder socks.
I did the same last winter but my house has a distinct smell of damp 😢, tried keeping windows open during summer, any tips would be helpful
That is why Sunak called an early election, he knew the energy prices and thus also inflation would rise at the end of the summer.
Flipping heck, they will squeeze blood out of a stone these energy companies.
You can't get blood out of a stone ❤
I'm in the USA in Ohio and they've increased our electric and gas to double what we were paying last year . Blessings to all ❤
So they lower the energy cap in Summer, then raise it again in Winter, how convenient! 🙄
Well aren't we doing well as a species? Bloody hell.

I believe I would turn puppy into a lap dog and a bed buddy for winter. Lol. Blessings to all ❤

Bubble wrap might have to come earlier. Maybe more throw rugs for the tile floors. Draft dodgers for the bottom of the doors
A teddy-bear fleece (like the ones from Dunelm). Wish they did house-trousers in the same fabric
Temu have them but in men's section

That’s quite the hike!

Its going to be a nasty winter.
I know where the winters are warm and the bord×r is open...
I'm glad I live in the United States not that expensive here. I would shave the dog before I sit around all bundled up
Shave the dog??
😂
I changed my tarriff to fixed rate only yesterday 😓
They are now talking about banning log burners, I hope you'll be ok
That will only apply to fitting new ones, not those that people already have installed.
