- Dr. Alexei is the kidnapped Russian scientist in Stranger Things, but we need to explore his childhood in order to fully understand his character.

Alexei is a USSR scientist hired to build the massive drill into the Upside-Down via a gate underneath The Starcourt Mall in Hawkins. Due to his perceived age, Alexei would have grown up during the communist regime in Russia in the 50s and 60s. Being a kid during this time had a major effect on him and we see it in his story on Stranger Things.
Alexei's appearance in Hawkins in 1984 and 1985 juxtaposes his socialist background with the aggressive capitalism of the mall which is the centerpiece of Season 3.
In this video, I'll be analyzing Alexei's entire life story, from his youth, to his earliest appearance in Hawkins, the capture at the hands of Jim Hopper and his unfortunate demise at the hands of the Soviet henchman, Grigori.
I'll also explain why his love of 7/11 Slurpees, Burger King and other western commodities is actually very important to understanding his character.
For this analysis, I'll only be considering the canon material, in this case: the web series Stranger Things. Alexei does not appear in the comics.

How happy he was just seeing a funfair. Shows how brutal his world was
To be fair I would be happy to see one too 😅
@@CZsWorld touché 🤣
I loved Alexi I cried when he died
@@Sub_to_RecGuy his death really made me mad cus he was funny
So true.
Oh Alexei. The character we all loved who sadly had to die
RIP
he will always be remembered
F in the chat for Alexei
RIP I was sad
F
His death was tragic, he had most likely just experienced the happiest moment of his life up to that point only to have it cut short.
If he was alive I would have taught him English
Edit:I probably would have befriended him too
Aw Alexi showing off his stuffed toy win to Murray is so pure and good. His death hit me even harder than Barbs!
Honestly I don’t think barbs dead didn’t hurt anyone people saw her for one episode
Alexei was one of my favorite characters from that season.. I really wanted him to become a permanent cast member, which made his dead even more crushing to me.. poor guy
Sadly this is stranger things so they would kill fan favorite characters
We can all agree Alexei's death was the saddest
imo bobs death was more sad
@@smartpasta8912 what the heck. Alexis and Eddie's death are close by saddest
@@blazingpanther519 i said that whilst being on s4 ep1
@@blazingpanther519 also i didn’t really understand the context on why he was so happy at the carnival
@@smartpasta8912 because in Soviet Russia it was so dead, so sad plus he’s been in an underground lab working on a machine for years rarely getting out, I’d assume one would be happy to see something so ‘happy’ looking.
Plus he even said in him own words “I become an American citizen and join in the fun”. All he wanted was fun.
But that’s just how I view it
God damn, it hurts seeing Alexei smiling so hard before the Hitman meets up with him.
i know and then when he just touched his chest and did a silent little gasp... it really broke my heart 😭
I have this theory that the reason why Murray learned karate in season 4 is because of Alexi. When alexi got shot he told Joyce how he just stood there and wasn't able to do anything, so seeing Murray use his karate to beat up the pilot was a cool redemption
I never thought about that
Alexei had the biggest smile on his face and looked genuinely happy to show Murray his woody the woodpecker
The sad thing is
He was proably buried a John Doe in an unmarked grave
So his family would never know What happend to him
He didn’t have one… he spent his whole life as a scientist working on the “Machineh” lol. His parents probably out wouldn’t have been close to him considering his lifestyle 🫤 makes it even worse
I love Murray and Alexi's friendship
Alexeis death hurt bro, just looking back on how happy he was without having those bad Russians watching him.. man.. i always get attached to the kinds of characters who are shy, side character, less known, awesome. Its amazing how Alexei wasnt afraid, unlike other shy, happy characters.
Dude you went so deep into it. Isnt it a shame we don't analyze these characters but simply acknowledge their presence. Amazing video dude.
That's what I'm here for!
I remember going to watch The Nutcracker ballet in elementary school. The performance group was from the USSR and later our teacher told us 2 of them defected to the US instead of returning home
Alexi was such a lovely character and I’m glad this video dives deeper into him and please cover Max in the future
Aw, poor Alexei. He was such a great side character in Season 3, and deserved better than his sudden death.
I like that you were talking about all the characters that all died a tragic death and you’re giving them some spotlight I’m really happy about that 👍🏻, and RIP to all them maybe if they make a season five all those characters come to life as zombies 🧟♀🧟🧟♂🧟♀🧟🧟♂
Honestly stranger things has some of the most memorable background characters ever created like we got Barb Alexi and my favourite Mrs Driscoll
Thank you for teaching us the history of Alexei love your videos ♥️💎
Thanks for watching!
As a employee of 7-Eleven I can testify that our Slurpees are addictive
Facts
Eddie and Alexis was the most sacred death but Alexis was more sad he a a very happy life with his cherry slushie
The death of Alexei was the most devastating part of stranger things… Oh, and Billy’s death. And Hoppers perceived death..
poor alexei. he was just a lil guy. :( i'd love to see you cover robin or nancy!
I just re watched some season 3 clips and noticed that the Pepsi machine in the Seven Eleven behind Alexei(when he's eating Cherry Slushie off his fingers) says "Freedom to Choose".
I saw someone ask for the grudge history. Please. I would love a grudge history as well CZ!
Yes indeed to this !
Ooo.
Would've been nice for Alexei to live. Even though he doesn't understand English, he would like the sound of Dustin and Suzie singing. The song would be stuck in his head. Alexei would've been some good help in season 4.
Do the Grudge history
Watching him so happy at the dart game made me feel joyous.
And then I recalled you saying it ends in tragedy and I felt very sad :( Now I'm sad.
Murray doing Woody the Woodpecker impression sealed his fate. ☹️
I have seen many movies and shows and I have to say his death is the only thing I have ever cried to
JUSTICE FOR ALEXI!!
Seriously, where is the petition?
Working on it. Could use some help. Maybe a slushy?
alexei’s death destroyed me when watching st he’ll always be one of my favorite characters fr he was a wholesome breath of fresh air in a dark environment. and idk if ur still doing this series but u should do one on vecna/henry!
His death was the only that made me cry. He was so cute in a foreign way
Actually it is a different bunker.... the first one was in Russia... Alexi states it didn't work at first because of location... it only worked in Hawkins... i literally just finished rewatching that episode.
Alexei was one of nicest and kind person I wish he stayed longer
Yeah Lexis death hit hard because he was just so happy for the opportunity to experience Western fun, I feel like so many people in this world are banned or prohibited from this 😕 😢 😔
Love Alexei and Murrey together, they would have made an amazing team
i think hes one of the iconic, bestest and purest character throughout the series. I wish they didn't kill him yet.
wow so cool, love this video, was so nice to hear all about Alexi along with the 80s, russian history.
Hi CCz world :,) i love ur videos ur commentary is kinda funny and interesting could u pls post a video explaining Steve Harrington and his backstory? i wanna know more about this character if u see this Hi
Yes! Love a new czsworld video!
The only thing.... waiting for things u missed on chucky
This was a good video love his back story
Thanks fellow emo
I like that you were talking about characters they all died a tragic death in the show because they were so good in the show And now they’re dead I’m just glad you’re giving them some spotlight
This one doesn’t make sense I will Make one that does
Congrats on hitting one mil I’ve been watching since 2019 and it’s pretty cool to see this channels growth good job dude👍
Moral of the stoy: Never get corndogs alone.
Can't wait for the The Complete History of CZsWorld | Horror History episode lol
Yess continue this serie
The best character deserved so much more
Did Russians execute soldiers and scientists for failing to meet objectives when the iron curtain was up? Seems over the top but then again... Not sure if the Duffer brothers are going for historical accuracy and realistic behavior.
I really like this video
Great vídeo to watch en my birthday
Did not expect a history listen in this video. Glad I watched this
It was like Bob all over again
Alexi was my favorite character overall.
Cant wait to hear “things you missed about ‘the black phone’ “ from this guy.
did anyone notice that grigory also killed WOODY WOODPECKER but alexeis death was the most tragic
Can you make a Orphan timeline for Esther. The prequel is coming out and I would love to see if you can make an Orphan timeline.
A complete History of my favorite character on Stranger Things on my birthday? Imma get a cherry slurpie to celebrate!
Happy Birthday 🎈🎊🎁
Happy Birthday!
Tysm for the birthday wishes❤️
Did you ever see Super 8? People call it the Stranger Things before Stranger things existed.
That’s actually so true
Yeah, I almost forgot about that movie, but I've seen it.
I just finished the latest season. Disappointed that its not more than 8 episodes but thats the trend with shows nowadays.
No there are two more episodes coming. It's 9 in total.
He was having a happy life and dun and then dies that would be the saddest thing I cried
Honestly, Alexi is really good, character-wise. And this is coming from someone who doesn't know Stranger Things all that well. The blatant purpose of him highlighting the Cold War and americanizing, to the point where he assumes Woody Woodpecker is part of the Looney Tunes because the characters are both so similar is art.
I always enjoyed Alexei. Sure, Eddie Munson is my favorite because he's likes cool kid stuff like I am, but Alexei really is just so funny. I'm glad we got at least why he likes Slurpees. I thought he like it because he does, but that's not really true. It was simply is because he lived in the U.S.S.R where commodities in the US are only on the black market. Shame he died by Grigori. He just wanted to experience America when that guy straight up ruined his fun.
Even though Grigori killed Alexei for enjoying American culture, I think it was also because he sided with Hopper, Joyce, and Murray and because he told them about how to turn off the generator. Hopper even said that if he returned to his comrades that they’d think he spilled his guts, and that he, Joyce, and Murray the best chance he’s got.
Rooting for the Grudge history lmao
Why is everyone suddenly asking for The Grudge haha
Yay another stranger things episode please do more
No one is watching these videos, but I have a couple more, so I'll release them.
I'm always watching them i love your videos especially stranger things and the conjuring series
i actually liked him as a character
Please make Stranger Things: The Complete History Dr. Sam Owens and Dr. Martin Brenner
Dang i am early. Thanks for the great content all the time CZ!
Glad you like it!
I love this series 🌈
Stranger things season 4 volume two comes out on my birthday
Could you please explain the Mind flayer I would really love a few explained that creature
hi CZ’s world!! i think I’ve come across your videos before only to not have watched all the Annabelle and conjuring movies. I’ve been watching your videos for the past 4 hours and even texted my dad “I’m literally shitting myself this all makes sense now” from watching one of your conjuring videos. But I have a question. When the demon is sucking judies soul out of her body Judy grabs a cross off of something. And since they where in the artifact room and if they touched the artifact it would obviously unleash a type of demon so when Judie grabbed a cross off an artifact why did it help instead of making something worse bc there was something around/attached to it?
I was so sad when Alexei died
He was my favorite character, I was so mad and upset when he died. I loved him and they killed him.
Hey Zac I got horror history video idea. How about you do a another horror history video about Tommy Jarvis From the Friday the 13th franchise. And can you reply about what you think about that idea please.
Please help! I've been trying to find a horror movie from when I was a kid but have had no luck
All I know about it is that the cover has a chest/box with creature hands and maybe a face peeking out?
And the plot is a geeky teen let's out some demons or monsters for a chest and has to catch them all. Not a kids movie tho..
I believe it was 80s or maybe early 90s?
Can you pls cover up the Mindflayer from season 2? 🥰🥺
Obviously, you have to do Vecna next
Wow I hear the Nerd Soup music 1:14!
I miss Alexei so much😭😭😭 i would chose to bring him back over Barb Hopper etc😭😭😭
Can you do a complete history of vecna from stranger things season 4?
His death broke me so bad.
I like this ytber
Please do one on the mindflayer
I really liked Alexi. He felt liked a family member we never knew we had. R.I.P Alexi! You'll always be our big kids
Can u do a complete history of Freddy Kruger?
I HAVE been watching through the Nightmare movies recently...
@@CZsWorld I have seen the movies for the first time last week, so I am very curious!
CzsWorld
Have you tried doing a horror history video on John carpenter’s the thing
I guess we should just be happy he got that Slurpee and got to play carnival games but yes this did suck
But I'm really looking forward to CZ Chrissy Horror History like the actress did a great job in such a short amount of screen time.
Or Vecna/Henry Creel/001 Horror History when Volume 2 of Season 4 releases.
At least Grigori got what he deserved like cmon WHY DID HE HAD TO KILL HIM RIGHT WHEN HE GOT THAT GIANT PLUSHIE??
Nice tie
You gotta remember these people in the universe trying to work the portal just was told to do it they barely know anything, you can see in America he sees these wonderful things he doesn’t get when he’s getting pushed around
Because russians would do anything to take an advantage to try everything in america
Atleast he had happy moments before he sadly passed
The happiness has been stolen in a split second. Bro grigori need a break.
7:47 Hey ted hey ted , wanna go get a slurpee? **** off!
The worst part if Alexie's death was that it seemed so pointless. The writers just killed him off to make the audience sad and upset. It's a quick and cheap way of raising the stakes which imo was pretty unimaginative and disappointing
it wasn't pointless tho, alexie had become a threat to the russians. He could give americans highly confidential information... it seemed fair that the russians killed him
@@idontlikeanime1578 I respectfully disagree. While I would say it is internally consistent with what the Soviets would do, that doesn't mean that it serves a purpose to the story.
#JUSTICEFORALEXI
i cried soo much when he died
Cherry Slurpees are a pathway to happiness some consider unnatural…
It sad how he died in a fair he was always happy and had friends but then gets shot 😕😔😪
We just got to know him and that’s why a lot of Russians buy a lot of expensive things because of the iron curtain. Thanks CZ
