Becoming a General contractor was easy. I went to work for plumbing contractor for 5 years and completed on job trainning and classroom trainning. Worked 5 years for a electrical contractor including OJT and classroom. Worked 5 years for HVAC contractor OJT and classroom. Worked for a framing contractor for five years OJT and classroom. Completed building, hvac, plumbing , electrical code classes and certification. Took the GC test, during the test it took longer to do the practice test then the actual test. The actual test took 10 min. I used the blank sheet of paper to list the test juestions that that were wrong so the state could fix their test. You won't even need to study for the test. Take it, you will be done in 10 min
Hi @@Theconsciousbuilder, I'm planning to develop a customer relationship management (CRM) app targeted towards busy on the go professionals like your self. This app would be designed to help people who are always on the go and have to manage their customer relationships effectively. I'd love to get some feedback on: Main pain points: What are the biggest challenges that busy professionals face when it comes to customer relationship management? Use cases: What are the most common situations where a CRM app would be helpful for this target audience? This feedback will be crucial in shaping the development of the app. Thanks, Bishav N R

Hi guys absolutely love your channel just subscribed and turned on the notification bell. My name is Abdullah I am 20 years old and I currently live in Toronto Canada. I really love the construction industry and see how much potential there is, my longterm goal is to own my own business that can possibly function with out me. My plan is to first work for a successful home remodeling company to get a good understanding of the different trades, then go for my GC license. My next goal is to work as a project manager and part time in sales to learn as much as I can on the business end. I strongly believe that this will provide with a good understanding and the skills needed to start my own construction business. At the the end of the day I am still a 20 year old and this goal may sound delusional so I hope you may guide me and give me advice on what you think the most ideal and efficient path to take on becoming a construction business owner. I would also like to know if you see value in the formal schooling route (4 year bachelors in construction management) or simply working my way to my goal. I thank you once again for your help and wish your channel the best of success!!!!
Hi Abdullah, thanks for watching and best of luck with your business, you're asking questions and love construction so you're on the right track and don't sound delusional at all. Your plan sounds great! There is value in schooling and hands-on experience, in fact we have a mix of people on our crew who learned everything hands-on and some who did school first. You may or may not need the degree but it will always be valuable to get the hands-on experience. You'll have to find the right combination for you of schooling, definitely recommend focusing on learning building science while spending as much time as you can in the field. While you're at it, check out the free course on theconsciousbuilderacademy.com and these videos: ruclips.net/video/gGGRcGh-yoU/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/1Gl4jf_MIVc/видео.html. to help you on your way!

Hi Casey, just a for fun question, if you could choose to build homes anywhere in North America where would you go? I know Tarion can be difficult in Ontario but I love our province and geography. Where else would you love to be able to build homes?
Good question! We love the Ottawa area, and every jurisdiction is going to have its issues...Personally we're working towards building in Quebec because it's right beside us but that's a whole different ball came as well. the properties are beautiful over there though!
Hi casey how would you advise finding work for a general contractor with little consturction expierance shadowing estimation and management? How would you approach? Or even apprenticeship
Hey! This is more about the successful element so it's relevant, but if you're starting right from scratch you should check out this video we did quite awhile back, which probably has more of what you're looking for: ruclips.net/video/gGGRcGh-yoU/видео.html. Another helpful resource is our academy, and definitely check out the free course there "TOP 5 THINGS I WISH I KNEW: when starting a construction business" www.consciousbuilderacademy.com/course/top-5-things-starting-construction-business Best of luck in your career journey!
Best advice if you are a new general contractor
Start off extremely small
Then scale slowly
