What a nice genuine simple man who wasn't above stopping to watch a sunset! I'm finding as I get older, noticing the simple things in life are the most satisfying!
Whenever life really gets me down, I have a beer and come back to this. What a great time to be alive back then. I miss it. Ernest Borgnine was a hell of a guy. Watch him tour the Miller Brewing Company if you haven't. It's on here.
They broke the mold when Ernest Borgnine passed. Humble man, incredibly talented, but real, genuine, warm human being. So enjoyable to see these videos. Mitchellville doesn't have a Dairy Queen? I thought every small town had a DQ?
I met Ernest Borgnine in a restaurant about 8 years ago. I am totally enjoying these videos of him. I had no idea they were on RUclips. It's refreshing to hear his values.
Since I was a kid, as far back as I can remember , Ernest Borgnine was a name that was all too common , most of the people in my age range grew up with him, from McHales Navy to westerns , to Army flicks. As sad as it is to see all these greats pass on, im sure especially Ernest , would have no regrets at all. He lived to 95 and was active till his passing. God Bless you Ernest .
What a wonderful person who really loved his country and respected the average person. So different with Hollywood stars today. Enjoying this series, getting to know the real Ernie.
You would notice more if your political ideology allowed to be more open. Plenty of actors live outside of Hollywood. Which doesnt mean the ones that dont are not good citizens who dont care about good for the common man. Who do you think actually pays to see their work? Such a baseless Fox News bullshit taking point.

once you live in the rural area's like this,, you never want to leave,, spring planting time,, summer growing season,, then the best time of the year,, fall,, ah fall ,, all the colors and the trees and the harvesting of all the corn and beans,,, then the winter months,, cold,, sometimes 30 to 40 below with wind chills of -60 ,,, can't wait for spring and the flowers,, flowers make me happy and are good for your soul,,, : )
Yep! 51 times around the Sun living in the great state of Iowa for me, and I hope to enjoy another 51 just the same as Ernie B. Nothing like living in the rural Midwest.
So glad your dad got to spend time with these middle USA state's. I am in corn town Illinois about 40 south of Rockford. Lot's of corn beautiful sunsets and I grew up and lived in Chicago for 60 years. Your dad honestly was salt of the earth. A real wonderful man. I would have loved to see him coming through here. My mom and stepdad dad met him and Tova in Milwaukee they said that he was so real. Seems like his son is too!!!
Christopher, thank You very much for posting these videos with your awesome Dad. I enjoy many of his movies to this day....and yes I am old enough to remember McHales Navy. Thanks so much .
I figured this was sometime in the mid-90's. Hard to believe that 1995 was 26 years ago! The Greatest Generation is now almost all left us, miss grandma and grandpa.
I worked the streets of Hollywood for years and met a lot of the movie folks..... some were nice as could be and some thought THEY were like GODS........ Nice to see the likes of Earnest out and about with the working class of the HEARTLAND..... SAD TO KNOW HE PASSED..... He sure left us with a lot of great movies...... RIP.
If i had the opportunity to meet Ernest Borgnine, I would ask him about his wonderful long career as an actor. I bet you could ask him 1000 questions and every one of the answers would be interesting. Yet I have failed to hear any adult ask him some questions.
Borgnine was such a put-on artist, how he puts Chris on about the katydids is classic. In terms of Mitchellville, I know what he meant about it being smaller than most towns, but there are a lot smaller towns than that in Iowa. I don't know how they would feel about being called a "hamlet." Nice to see the original footage used for the film, thanks for posting it.
I loved his comment about shooting a cannon down the street without hitting anyone. Very picturesque to say the least. He and his people were here in Ridgecrest, California years ago before his death. Never talked to him, but he impressed me with his honesty and sincerely. It was more than enough to fill his RV.
I am from this town 32yrs i have lived here. Its a or was a great town back then now they wanna treat us like its some big city and make it an HOA there is alot of termoil going on right now between citizens and city officials
He is fascinating. Imagine, a great Hollywood actor, amidst ordinary people. I mean, this artist worked with the greatest Hollywood crews and actors! I bet that Italian restaurant has a framed photo and autograph on some wall...
This is from 1995, he was 78. Restaurant is long gone, like most independent businesses in America. 🇺🇸 now He died 2012 at age 98 This was a road trip independent film 🎞️ he did

You hit it all right on the head! I grew up in Rural Northern Minnesota on a farm.
Yep! 51 times around the Sun living in the great state of Iowa for me, and I hope to enjoy another 51 just the same as Ernie B. Nothing like living in the rural Midwest.
I live in mid Missouri and you said it best.
What a pleasure ....to learn what this man was all about
These small towns all seem to be the same. A Post Office, a few stores and a bar, which is the social center. The epitome of Americana. Beautiful!
Great man...fun caring character always remembered! Gentleman to all with his time. 👍👏👍😃🏴
Enjoyed watching his trip immensely

It would have been hilarious if while eating there dinner one of Ernests movies came on or McHales Navy came on.
Borgnine was a genuine American with so much love for his country.
Notice no condescending "I'm from the big city" crap. Great talent.
God Bless Ernie!

It's always nice to see a movie star who has class in a normal environment
I'm becoming addicted to these shows..

That’s too bad. Sitting empty? What did it in? Covid? Bidenomics?
