Tipper, I sure hope you continue reading books after this ones done !!! When I first met my late husbands family in Ky. back in the 1950s, I learned you filled your husbands plate before your made your own. Thanks for the memory. God Bless. Jean
I remember my sister and I making a game of seeing who could squat the longest. 😂 I loved that she wore her green silk dress n put makeup on the girls, and the fiddles and the big fire , i can smell it, i miss the fire in a fireplace, when we was kids we had a fireplace we used in our living room, when the power would go out we roasted hotdogs and smores over the fire. I love that she peeled the corn to make popcorn . She doesn't know it yet , or maybe she does , that all this connection and history with these people is why she came, and she she found herself there , she found home... people never recover from leaving the mountains , there is a level of real in the people of Appalachia that you don't find anywhere else in the world , those of us who leave never recover from the loss the homesick brings. The only cure is to go home to the mountains where you left yourself so long ago. Its incredible how real that is. 💯❤️ Great reading Tipper Throughly enjoyed 👍❤️ Happy Holidays to yuns ⭐️
Another chapter full of happenings, and further “untying of the knot” of the mystery of this story. I loved the girls coming upstairs while Louisa prepared for the party. The conversation about make up and that teacher would never lead them into sin was priceless. Corey’s dismissal of the thought of makeup being sinful was that the preacher (who won’t provide shoes for his children so his wife feels shame) won’t be present. She is aware of his hypocrisy. I like Corey so much. She has strength and wisdom. She is a good woman. Our world has blurred the lines between men and women. Corey and Lee Buck are traditional and I appreciate the definition of their roles. They are a team with her doing home, hearth and children. He is doing logging, hunting, and protecting. I used to tease my man that he was the “hunter-gatherer” and I was the “keeper of the hearth”, but to some extent it was true even though I worked full-time as a nurse and worked part-time for him. It’s a dance between men and women. Corey and Lee Buck seem to dance well together. This is one of the best books and is SO enhanced by your reading. Thank you. ❤️
It hurts my heart to hear of all the trouble, stress, and misinformation. I keep thinking they should just talk to each other, but I know it's just a different time and a different life than we have now. Seems like a very hard time to live in both physically and emotionally. A big Merry Christmas to all the Celebrating Appalachia followers!
Years ago I was visiting a family from my church; they were having supper when I got there. I noticed that only the men were eating and the women and girls were sitting in the living room. The mother of the home told me that she always let the "men folk" eat first. That was fine as long as the men left something for the women to eat! It was interesting that this custom was mentioned in Mountain Path. I have heard Barbree Allen sung before. Tommy Faile who was from Lancaster County, SC had a recording of it. I also loved the name of the songs that were mentioned in this chapter. I wish I could hear them played. My Aunt Lucy had a milk cow but she never had to call it. When it got dark you could hear the cow bell getting louder so you knew the cow was on her way back to the barn; that was always a comforting und. Thank you for reading this book. I sure am enjoying it. You do a good job. Dennis Morgan
The thing that I usually pick up on in these chapters is the use of familiar words and phrases. The one that stuck out this week was the use of the word "peak-ed". That's one that I grew up hearing and my mama will still say that quite often. But the old folks would use it all the time. They wouldn't say that you look pale, they would say you look peak-ed. There just something comforting and endearing about the idea that you share a vocabulary with people from other places.
Even this far into the book, it's hard not to think with the actions of what we do. It's such a different dynamic in marriage. We think with the mind of a woman in today's world. Being able to say anything to a husband. But Cory says even after 14 years she doesn't know Lee buck. I think Cory may say something about the danger. I loved, most ,the painting the young girls faces and letting them wear her jewelry ! Such a special gift for the party. Can't say I'm surprised that Cory has a sister. The woman always asks about her and seems to know her well! All because of the men they married, they can have no contact. Have a peaceful evening ,before the celebration of the birth of our lord . Thank you, for the gift of spending time with us reading.
My eyes began to get all teary as soon as you read that ballad's name. I stayed right here in my seat and didn't even get up to see the Santa parade go bye my house. No biggie though, they'll ride around these little towns till after midnight, chucking popcorn ball snowballs at anyone out there. Sisters!!!! They're Sisters!!!! Well that does explain a lot! May the reason for the season fill us all with the warmth to pay the love forward! 🙏 of ✌& ❤ to you All! All around the 🌎
Great cliffhangers as keeping us ready for the next installment. Thank you for continuing to read to us. I love the children’s wonder at the teacher’s ways. Great description of Appalachian ways of life. Looking forward to (and hoping) you have another book picked out for us. Thanks for all you do to preserve our precious heritage. (Jane in SC)❤️🙏🏻🎄
I'm really enjoying Mountain Path and so appreciate your reading the tale. When Louisa reflected that Mrs. Goldstein sounded like Corrie, it was a clue they were related. My Grandmother sang Barbry Allen and other old ballads. Good stuff!
Happy Christmas Tipper and your family! xo This chapter left me a bit gobsmacked over what Louisa will do and what will happen next with Corie and those tedious men 😄
What a Christmas Eve treat. It was almost 90 here in Texas today, this chapter really made me miss winter weather, and a good fire! Sisters! OMGOODNESS! I just can’t wait to see how this plays out!
Great reading Tipper, I’m feeling teacher is reaching the end of her stay without achieving any major change in the folks around her but she’s changed- and I hope it’s something beneficial for her life in the future. Merry Christmas to you and yours and thank you for teaching us about Appalachia- a very special place🎄🥰
3 interruptions since I started listening. 10 after 11 pm. And I finally got to listen all the way.now I'm worried about beetle. The get together.it reminded me of my dad and his brothers getting together and picking guitars . they would drink a little too and the women kept an eye on them and we lived in Texas. Well until I married and moved to Oklahoma.yes finding out they were sisters so sad. Come on next chapter I'm need to know how this turns out. Thanks for the reading tipper I enjoyed it finally lol.Merry Christmas.
Loved this reading again!! I’ve heard Barbara Allen and heard it talked about. I’m worried about Beetle. Thank you for another chapter! Waiting for the next one!
I was a few days late getting to this chapter over the Christmas holiday. You bring so much life to the characters of this book. There is still a lot of unraveling yet to be done. Looking forward to the next chapter.
A dark chapter even with the party going on. Shocking to learn Corie and the Goldston woman are sisters. In our huge family the men always ate first. Kids and then women. My Daddy always made a kerosene soaked flannel cloth when we had the croup. He even made one to tie around our dogs neck when the dog had distemper. I've thoroughly enjoyed your reading of this book. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
After the Christmas party this evening...after everyone went home...my sister (who has also become hooked on your channel and Mountain Path) and I were so pleased to remember it was book night! Thank you so much for the reading of it! I pray that you all have a wonderful Christmas! Only a few more chapters....will sure miss Louisa, Chris and the Cals when the book is finished! There are so many truths in this "fiction" and you bring out even more with your observations. I also enjoy everyone else's comments in this Appalachian community! Merry Christmas everyone!
Loved your thoughts on the serving of the men first. In our family it's like that. And just like you, we also just do it from being used doing it. Grandma used to say it was from years of serving them first because they worked in the fields all day as migrant workers, the women did too but the elders mostly cooked.
My goodness!! Sisters! I wasn't expecting that. I assumed they were related but didn't think they were that closely related. I guess I was thinking cousins. The party sounds fun and stuffy.. Hope you all had a happy Christmas weekend. We are at our daughter's in Savannah and I was reading the Dollmaker when I realized I had missed this week's Mountain Path. Thanks again for the reading!
Another great chapter! I love the old ballads too! I imagine everything as you read, the people, the place and what they are doing ....old mountain remedies for sickness, my parents and grandparents used mountain folk remedies on us kids growing up and they seemed to work ....thanks tipper....God bless 🙏
Teacher is getting closer to the moment she can't ignore even if she wants to. The fork in the road. Is she at home or looking on from the outside? Merry Christmas to you and yours!🌲💐
Wonderful reading Tipper, thank you. I too am confounded as to why they aren't telling the men folk right away. I love that Corrie made a poultice for her baby, so old timey.
I remember when I asked why the women fed the kids and men first and they said that they were out of the way and the women could eat and visit without having to tend to anyone else. I am almost 62 and I reminisce almost daily now. I guess this happens when we have lost so many of the older generations that we loved so much. I always enjoy your readings and I hope this story lasts for several more weeks.
I was reminded of when I was in high school and the teacher for my British Literature class brought in a recording of Judy Collins singing "Barbara Allen". I agree with you that Cory's thinking of telling Chris and Lee Buck about the men looking for them, but I have a feeling they'll find out some other way and decide to face their pursuers, as opposed to "going away".
I can hear my father calling the cattle just like Corey. They are gone now and that emptiness is filled by the sounds coming over the mountain from Brasstown. Merry Christmas
I got a little uneasy feeling when the Goldson women kept asking about Beedle and congestion. It seemed like she was forseeing something. Merry Christmas Tipper and to your family and everyone here. Praying 2022 brings much good health and joy to all.
I am watching the last two tonight! I think it is a great way to spend New Years Eve. I can't believe the lady is Cory's sister. That was a big surprise! It also added such a depth to the women's stories. I love this book!
Thank you for keeping us abreast on Mountain Path, even though we know it’s been a busy, demanding Christmas season for you, Tipper. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours‼️ ✝️🇺🇸🎄❤️🔥🎁
Another thought provoking chapter, Tipper! I think Louisa is not looking forward to leaving. Maybe she will have a reason to stay as the story comes to an end. I can’t wait to find out. Thank you, Tipper, for another Friday night with the continuation of this story. Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄🎄🎄
Another thought provoking chapter. I didn’t see the Goldstein woman as Korie’s sister. How terribly sad for them. I sure hope they figure out a way to patch things up. Thanks Tipper for another fun Friday night!! Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2022!
WOW!!! Now thats a twist I didn't see coming, sister's, I gotta think Chris and Lee Buck will get warned. There's been so many curve balls in this book, I hope you have another picked out for the next series.
Well, I knew this moment would come.😵💫🥺 At EPISODE 19, I'm STUCK, waiting with as much anticipation as a baby bird in the nest. Please don't take too long in preparing EPISODE 20!🤦🏼♀️👍🏼♥️😂
Merry christmas tipper liked the chapter she gets more interesting every week hope in another chapter she speaks up I know the song my aunt and grandmother sang it taught me when I was small
This chapter illuminated some stark contrasts: the gaiety before and during the music party, Louisa's crippling anguish and fear over what she feared would be the eruption of violence between the community's warring factions, and the utter lack of communication within the community and even within families. HAPPY CHRISTMAS and NEW YEAR (2022) and EVERY OTHER DAY to the splendid, dedicated reader of Mountain Path, and to the Pressley and Wilson families.
Love this author's way of drawing us into the twists and turns of this story. So the women are sisters but more than that. Corie lived with her after their mother died for several years. Wonder which side or where the stepmother was from? Why did each of the sister's husbands seem to think the property in question belonged to them and what was that based on? Not much interaction between Chris and Louisa in this chapter. I have a suspicion if anyone tells anyone else about sneaking in the cave through the river, it will be told to Chris. Suspense is building.. Thank you so much again for your reading to us. So enjoyable and you know how much by us taking time to listen on Christmas Eve. 😁🍊🥥🍇 🍎 Have a blessed Christmas with your family. 🌲🎄🌲🎄🌲🐑🐫
Wow it's getting tense! But I sure hate to see it end. I smiled when you were talking about men eating before the women and kids. My family did that too but my granny stopped it in her generation. There were a lot of big men in our family and they ate up everything. So granny started putting back some of the good food for the kids and women before they brought out the rest to the table. That way everyone got something good. I was told it started in the day when food was scarce and the men being strong enough to hunt and farm and do what was needed to protect everyone was the rationale for them getting more food. Who knows. Either way granny decided it was ok for them to eat first out of respect, just not get all the food lol. She was a little woman but you didnt mess with granny. God Bless yall. Have a good week.
Another great & intriguing chapter…it keeps us coming back for more……great author to hold our attention so well…..I really enjoy listening to it..Thank you for reading for us… Merry Christmas to you & all your family…🤗
Momma told me about the asafetida bags that my G'ma made for her to wear in the fall and winter. Momma was a pudgy chubby child and with that bag around her neck no one would pick her to play with. Momma said she never was sick. 🤷♀️ Great chapter. Do you have another book picked out for us when this one ends? I sure hope so.❤❤🙏🙏
Mama taught me ♫ Barbra Allen ♪ when I was little. ♥ This chapter has me worried for the baby... and I don't believe the kerosene poultice is going to help. (?)
Just wondered if you've ever read any of the books by Janice Holt Giles. They are great stories. She was from Kentucky, married a mountain man & then wrote the books. I can't get them anymore at the library, but when I could I read them over & over. Her autobiographical book was called 40 Acres & a Mule. She wrote back in the 40s and 50s.
I’d tell him and he’d listen or I’d sew him up in the sheet then take the broom and beat him. Ok that’s what my grandma said she’d do if he’d ever hit her. Hahaha. I’m 71 and I love this book thank you for so much joy. Merry Christmas to you and your family
Corey is so observant and she has a way of prying out of Louisa the truth. Poor little Beadle, always seem'ta be something a going on with her. Once when I was young I saw some of my older cousins drinking and smoking and remember being scared like Mabel. I'd probably miss the children the most be Louisa doesn't seem to be as attached to them.
One of my brother in law's sported the caveman look every winter it drove me crazy due to me being the sister in law he shaved it off about May LOL inert eye-roll I miss him he passed away in 2006 so young
Only a few chapters left. I'm beginning to fear for Louisa and Chris. I want Louisa to stay, and I want her to get together with Chris. This story is getting sort of scary. I hope there's no tragedy in store for Louisa. And I love Barbara Allen. It's such a sad, beautiful song. It reminds me of my two favorite poems: The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes, and Annabel Lee by Edgar Allen Poe.
"CHRISTMAS GIFT"❗❗❗❤💚❤💚🎄🎀 I WAS GPUNG TO SEND THIS AT MIDNIGHT , HOPING TO BE " GIRST" TO EIDH YOU "CHRISTMAS GIFT"❤❗but I feel ASLEEPwsiting on 12:00am❗❗ HAPPY HAPPY CHRISTMAS PRESSLEY FAMILY❤🎅💚❤💚❗
My daddy would make a poultice snd put it on a flannel rag and tie it around our necks when we were croupie. Growing up, the men always ate first and we ate afterwards as we fed kids and talked. To me, it was a way to get them out of the way. 😁
Maybe she won't tell him because she already knows it won't change his mind. Tipper, you've been married a long time, have there been times when you can't change Matt's mind? I don't know a woman in southern Appalachia that hasn't a sometime or another thought her man head wasn't as hard as hickory knot! (But we love them anyways) 🤣
I have been wondering why it was that Mrs Golston was asking after Corie and her kids. They must never see one another. How sad. I’m thinking that someone is either going to tell Lee Buck or Chris about this serious and dangerous situation they are in. Corie is a problem solver and she is certainly worried about her children’s father. Could she break with the old ways and warn Lee and Chris? I think if anyone could work through it she’s the one. I’ll be studying this til next week😂
There u go again bringing up something that I.thought was unique to my clan! At both sets of my grandparents all the men ate first , then important older women,
Tipper, I sure hope you continue reading books after this ones done !!! When I first met my late husbands family in Ky. back in the 1950s, I learned you filled your husbands plate before your made your own. Thanks for the memory. God Bless. Jean
I still do that 😆
God Blesses us with your reading.
Thank you. ❤️
This book gets better week by week. Merry Christmas Tipper.
It hurts my heart to hear of all the trouble, stress, and misinformation. I keep thinking they should just talk to each other, but I know it's just a different time and a different life than we have now. Seems like a very hard time to live in both physically and emotionally.

You're right in that the best books have us invested in the characters. One sister married a Hatfield and the other married a McCoy. Eek!

Another thought provoking chapter, Tipper! I think Louisa is not looking forward to leaving. Maybe she will have a reason to stay as the story comes to an end. I can’t wait to find out. Thank you, Tipper, for another Friday night with the continuation of this story.

Thank you for your reading. Merry Christmas, everyone stay safe and eat lots🌲🌲🎅🤶
Merry Christmas!
Another great & intriguing chapter…it keeps us coming back for more……great author to hold our attention so well…..I really enjoy listening to it..Thank you for reading for us…

Thank you and Merry Christmas to all of you.
Merry Christmas!
I remember my mother rocking me to sleep singing Knoxville Girl. I couldn't have been more than two years old.
I remember you telling me that Papaw 😀 Merry Christmas!
@@CelebratingAppalachia Merry Christmas ro you too! All of you!
Momma told me about the asafetida bags that my G'ma made for her to wear in the fall and winter. Momma was a pudgy chubby child and with that bag around her neck no one would pick her to play with.
Momma said she never was sick. 🤷♀️
Great chapter. Do you have another book picked out for us when this one ends? I sure hope so.❤❤🙏🙏
I'm working on it 😀
@@CelebratingAppalachia YIPPEEEEE. Knowing you'll continue to read, made my day.👌😁❤❤❤
Mama taught me ♫ Barbra Allen ♪ when I was little. ♥
This chapter has me worried for the baby... and I don't believe the kerosene poultice is going to help. (?)
Thank you Ron!
Thank you for sharing this story with us, Tipper. I wonder, does the author spell the name Corie with two r’s or one?
Just like you spelled it Corie 😀 and just like my Corie's name 😀

God bless happy Christmas and New year from England
Just wondered if you've ever read any of the books by Janice Holt Giles. They are great stories. She was from Kentucky, married a mountain man & then wrote the books. I can't get them anymore at the library, but when I could I read them over & over. Her autobiographical book was called 40 Acres & a Mule. She wrote back in the 40s and 50s.
I don't think I have-I will check her out 😀
We still let men eat first, then kids, then women. We were raised that way.
I feel sorry for Cory. I'm glad teacher told her.
Hope you will video some of your family get togethers, I enjoy your videos so much
Oh Barbara Allen there's a poem legend says on how the rose sprang up and why they have thorns's nowadays they don't well some do
I'm really on edge now wanting to find out what happens next lol
I’d tell him and he’d listen or I’d sew him up in the sheet then take the broom and beat him. Ok that’s what my grandma said she’d do if he’d ever hit her. Hahaha. I’m 71 and I love this book thank you for so much joy. Merry Christmas to you and your family
Love that 😀 I'd try to make him listen too!
I miss him he was so wondeful a great dad and great friend
All the descriptions to set senses help you envision it as if you are there.
grampa called that squat posture "sitting on my haunches"
Only a few chapters left. I'm beginning to fear for Louisa and Chris. I want Louisa to stay, and I want her to get together with Chris. This story is getting sort of scary. I hope there's no tragedy in store for Louisa. And I love Barbara Allen. It's such a sad, beautiful song. It reminds me of my two favorite poems: The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes, and Annabel Lee by Edgar Allen Poe.

My daddy would make a poultice snd put it on a flannel rag and tie it around our necks when we were croupie. Growing up, the men always ate first and we ate afterwards as we fed kids and talked. To me, it was a way to get them out of the way. 😁
🥰
Maybe she won't tell him because she already knows it won't change his mind. Tipper, you've been married a long time, have there been times when you can't change Matt's mind? I don't know a woman in southern Appalachia that hasn't a sometime or another thought her man head wasn't as hard as hickory knot! (But we love them anyways) 🤣
There sure has been LOL! Thank you for watching!!
🎄🎄🎄💜🎄🎄🎄💜🎄🎄🎄
I have been wondering why it was that Mrs Golston was asking after Corie and her kids. They must never see one another. How sad. I’m thinking that someone is either going to tell Lee Buck or Chris about this serious and dangerous situation they are in. Corie is a problem solver and she is certainly worried about her children’s father. Could she break with the old ways and warn Lee and Chris? I think if anyone could work through it she’s the one. I’ll be studying this til next week😂
I know all that questioning makes sense now 😀
There u go again bringing up something that I.thought was unique to my clan! At both sets of my grandparents all the men ate first , then important older women,
Kids were last. Now it’s just the other way around. I just love this story. U must be lookin’ for another book to read to us. Merry Christmas.
Christmas Gift
You got me 😀
I was going to wait until the morning but was afraid I would forget. 🎅
You wouldn’t want your husband to be ambushed, and you wouldn’t want him to lay in wait to kill someone else either. You’d want the killing to stop.
I wonder was sweet apple preserves are.
I do too Papaw.
