Such a wonderful book with such a sad ending. We always hope for a happy ending, but life as in books does not always happen that way. I looked to see if Arnow continued Louisa’s character into another book but I didn’t find that she had. My family has that pride you speak of. It certainly builds self-sufficiency and is often seen as just stubbornness by others, but it has served us well. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story full of wonderful characters. My favorites were Corey and Ry. I look forward to your next choice. ❤️

The reading of the book caused me to slow down & enjoy life on the farm. I feed the deer & wild turkeys. I lost one of the young twin does yesterday. Got hit by a car. Saw them playing in the snow by the feeder last week. Life is yet but a vapor and appreciation all memories you remind me of the blessings the Lord gives us in these hills & hollars. Play that music Brasstown girl.

I want to tell you something amazing Tipper. I have a wonderful granddaughter who has Autism. She takes little interest in anything except her Ipad. BUT when she hears me listening to your reading, she likes it so much that when your reading ends, she ask to hear another story! So I started your chapters over so she can hear you reading. I was so surprised and proud that she took an interest and wanted to hear more! Thank you so much for doing this, it means more than I can express 🥰

I’ve liked Arnow’s writing and I’ve looked forward to Fridays every week for 23 weeks!
What an insightful teacher Louisa must have gone on to become. This was a rough learning experience for her, but we all have that in our past, and sometimes even in our future.
The characters have invaded our imaginations. The saddest part for me was that Corrie told the children to never ask her anything about Chris. We can’t erase these things. It’s in the retelling that we are allowed some comfort, in my opinion.
    Thank you, Tipper.

Oh!😭That ending is what I expected, yet the author's words made it even more heart-wrenching than I'd anticipated. It's funny how even fictional stories find a crevice in our hearts that we carry with us for many years, if not forever. The way Lee Buck described his last moments was not only sad, but also terrifying. It makes me hurt even more for those that leave this world without ever admitting that they have a Creator, and that He has standards we can NEVER meet, without His Son. What a dark, lonely, and horrific future that is. Thank you, and I'm sure ready for another one, though I will shamelessly beg you to choose one with a happier conclusion.♥️👍🏼

Thank you for reading to us. I’m reminded of old photographs of my mountain state ancestors who appeared so thin and gaunt looking. Such hard lives they must of had. Let’s be grateful that we have it so much easier. Death and sadness comes to us all but there is joy to be had if we choose it.

The part of Pete crying, because Chris's hunting dog, froze to death waiting on Chris. Oh my gracious! I got tore up, big ole tears ran down my face. We have had hunting dogs ( coon dogs, bird dogs, rabbit dogs) as I grew up and we have dogs now. But there is a special bond that good hunting dogs have with their (people) I say instead of calling them their owners. I could just picture it, (and I cried). I felt so bad for Chris just wanting out of that cave to the light. Thanks Ms Tipper for taking your time to share this story that I never would have read or heard any other way. You are blessing and I believe that this is a wonderful talent/gift given to you by THE HOLY SPIRIT. Keep up the great work and let HIS LIGHT continue to shine through you.

Of course I’m disappointed Chris passed away but the part that broke my heart the most was seeing the children walk away at the end of the day in the cold rain. You know their little hearts were broken and they wanted her to stay as much as she wanted to stay with them. It’s hard to learn these life lessons, especially as a child. I think all of these children has already learned so much and experienced so much hardship that they are better equipped to handle such things. Thanks for the wonderful journey you took us on Tipper. Can’t wait to hear the next book. I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’ll have a happy ending. 😊

My chest tightened with children's goodbyes, then lightened as Louisa seemed to be going to stay, then knew the ending was a very sorrowful one with sight of Corie and her iron. I didn't cry but such tense feelings that built as you read on, seeing the pages ending, stronger tenseness...the cold water, the new iron for a weight, the dog freezing, Corie's grief, Louisa's pain and mourning in all things! What a marvelous author and wonderful narration each and every week! Enjoyed immensely! Thank you, Tipper!!! I know you will select another wonderful 📚!

Hey Tipper, thanx for the readings. Back in the mountains of West Virginia some of the older folks would say things like "This is our lot in life." Heard that from the beginning of the book. When you were explaining that certain type of pride, I thought of a song lyrics by Charlie Daniels "I don't want nothin from nobody if I can't get it on my own." Hope the next book has a better ending. A book like that would kinda balance things. Peace from Florida.

Wow. I agree with you...now Louisa is forced into a maturity and coming endurance as she wades through her grief until her memories can turn into treasure. I like what you said about the children...there was a sense of pride that would not allow them to outwardly show emotion. They had already learned from their life experience that some things just had to be accepted.
I'd like to think that Louisa kept her love of Chris as a very bright spot in her memory. They were, after all, truly in love....at least she had that to think on if she allowed herself to.
Mountain Path was such a deep and insightful story....well written and very well read. Thank you for sharing it !

Thank you for reading. Wondering how long this space of emptiness will hang on. I get so wrapped up in books especially if they mirror some of my own life as this one has. I try not to dwell on the sorrows but it's hard sometimes. What I feel now isn't for Louisa and Chris but it has opened that hole in my heart again. I will try not to stare into it for too long before I gently shut that door once more. Thanks again, Tipper. God bless.

😓Sad ending, but so true Appalachia. I say that as a good thing, It shows how things will go on even in our saddest times. The hardest part about coming from a large family is seeing our love ones go before us. When I sat as a child listening to the adults talk around the supper table, I can remember my uncle telling his baby sister as predicting the future... "Sister I feel for you, because you are the one that will get to see us all die." I thought how horrible, as she joked about how she could pass the next day. Such truer words were never spoken. But I also know how blessed we have been when everyone in our family has pretty much passed in order. Kinda scary now that we are almost to our generation though---lol

First and foremost, Tipper, thank you for being such a fine reader. Your reading of Mountain Path was at least as enjoyable as the story itself, and at times considerably more so. Like you, I'm disappointed that the story did not end on a positive note. There was so much adversity to resolve and overcome within that isolated community, and it's disappointing that it remains virtually unchanged. The spirit of John Steinbeck certainly came alive in the final chapter -- unfortunately. Looking forward to being read to next Friday.

You know, I appreciate it ending without having to wrap it up in a neat little bow. That's how life goes sometimes. If I were Louisa, I'd be relieved to be able to get some physical distance between herself and the tragedy. It started off with her being wary of this murderer on the loose, to legitimately growing feelings for him, to this. The part that struck a chord with me was the last day of school. I remember that feeling of missing a teacher before you have to go. It's especially sad because who knows if and when the younger ones got another teacher. At any rate, I'd like to think the experience made Louisa more humble and grateful. Whew, hopefully the next book will be a little more upbeat! Whatever you choose, I'm looking forward to it. Thanks so much for bringing me this story, Tipper.

I enjoyed your reading & commentary so much. This was an unhappy ending, but I agree with you that a good author makes the reader feel all sorts of feelings. I look forward to hearing your next selection. Thank you.

I just began listening to you read and it was this last chapter I was captured by and couldn't stop listening. It was profound and painted a picture through and through of the people. Actually that is what makes a book of value - it connected me to them in this short time of listening. Thank you so much for your beautiful reading and the care you have of the people represented - you do love Appalachia!

I have enjoyed this, from beginning to end! I knew chris had died ,when she was ironing his good clothes....I know if chris had lived ,she would have stayed and married him , she was smitten with him from the moment they met ....I pictured the farm warm and sunny, with the fruit trees blooming and the wild iris in bloom , the rebirth of nature in the spring....was a great book ! Look forward to the next book.....thanks tipper ! God bless....❤🙏

I’ve really enjoyed hearing you read to us! And I’m very pleased that your going to choose another book! It takes the sting out of the ending really lol
Also, I’m a 6th grade teacher and this book and chapter really resonates with me. I’m always so sad on the last day of school, I typically cry! Lol even though I look forward to break so much, there is something sad about the end of something. Thank you for sharing this wonderful novel!

Such a good book with such a sad ending. But then again life does not always have happy endings. Arnow is a wonderful writer. I have looked at other books she wrote and my vote is Hunters Horn. But any book you choose will be good and we will love to hear it. Thank you so much for these readings. As for the pride in this last book you describe it reminds me of my Dad's ways. He was so independent and taught us to be also. He wouldn't accept help. He would rather do the best he could on his own. And if you did help him he would find a way to repay you. Pride l guess. But then he was on his own since he was 9 and never had help so I guess that was part of it. Have a great weekend with the family. God Bless yall.

Thank you for reading me this story. I truly enjoyed hearing you read it...
It was just the ending that broke this old saddle sore biker's heart. To me that story was real life. I've known families that hated each other so bad that it lead to murder. The families don't even remember what started the feud over a hundred year ago. But they still keep on hating each other because of their last name. Some small town are divided by the railroad tracks. Each family stays on their own side or there would be hell to pay for the one who dared cross the tracks. I've seen it teach little kids 4 and 5 years old how to hate someone they didn't even know just because of their last name... Hate always leads to murder in more ways than one. That's why Jesus said that we are to love our neighbor as much as we love ourselves.
Okay I'll shut up now some much more I could say about the many different avenues this story took me in my mind...
I'm so looking forward to next week. Thanks again for taking the time to read to us... Be blessed in Jesus name..... BBE..

Thanks for this read Tipper. I listened to it over a period of time I was laid up with the flu (happens about every 3 years with me). It's so valuable to have this to help pass that time by taking my mind off the discomfort. Great job 👍🇺🇸🤘

I really really enjoyed this book even though it did have a very sad ending. So glad that you will be back next week with something I'm sure you will choose well. I read down through and disagreed with somebody that that was the way of things sometimes in Appalachia it's not just the way of things in Appalachia it's the way of things in other places too sometimes different grievances sometimes less violent sometimes the same I hate to say that
