    Thank you so much for reading this book to us. It is so enjoyable set back and relax while you read to us. I remember a substitute teacher in the 5th grade read the book ( Drums Along the Mohawk ) by Walter D. Edmunds. I love it when a writer can describe a place so clear that you can actually see the place as if you were there. Thank you Miss Tipper.

    Loved that cliffhanger! Appalachia has fascinated me because of its remoteness and the people who live there, even though I've never been there. I've lived in city and country, but find the country brings me contentment. Thanks for reading, Tipper! Love this story so far!

    This is a fascinating story. As Louisa journeys deeper into mysterious and remote surroundings, she's doing a remarkably good job of not letting fear of the unknown get the best of her. If I had to classify Mountain Path at this point, I'd call it a mystery story. Thanks again, Tipper, for bringing it to us. I love the story and appreciate the reader.

    I enjoyed that. Some of my childhood was spent among people and places resembling those described in your book. My wandering alcoholic father roamed from the white sand beaches of Florida, to the filthy, snow covered streets of Chicago and all parts in between. One of those "temporary homes" was atop a mountain in Alabama, in a log cabin that not only had no electricity or water, but also had no bathroom- not even an outhouse. We had to carry water from a creek that came from the mouth of a cave. The only other people on the whole mountain was one family (the Clark's), that lived about 3 or 4 miles away. The people in and around those mountains sound strangely similar to the characters in your book. :)

      RonRay…You could write a book, I bet. I was helping my sister with a problem she had and I called and talked to a man who turned out to be a pastor who conducted AA meetings. After I told him about my sister’s problem, he asked a couple of questions, then said, “One of your parents had a drinking problem, didn’t they?”
      He went on to tell me how many adult children of a parent that drank are enablers. That shed a whole lot of light on some characteristics I had! Dad didn’t move us around though. Has life turned out well for you?

    • @RonRay
      @RonRay 3 года назад

      @@marilynpeppers1356 Marilyn, you are right on the mark! I had four brothers and two sisters and all but one (a sister), were alcoholics. I too believe that children of alcoholics have a tendency to repeat the 'sins of the fathers'. I was spared, only because I "originated" in prison, where my father could not drink. My father was in prison for about 3 1/2 years and was transferred as a trustee to a "road camp", where my mother visited him and was granted "conjugal interaction"... It was from one such visit that I "became".
      It is for that reason that when I planned my son's "beginning", I and my wife abstained from alcohol for many months. Turns out, he was never bothered by alcohol! ....... but is now a drug addict!

    • @marilynpeppers1356
      @marilynpeppers1356 3 года назад +1

      @@RonRay …How very, very interesting.
      I went through a “spell” in the 1990’s where I started depending on alcohol too much. It was after I got to keeping some at work (a small family owned business) that I knew I was in trouble.
      Turns out I was diagnosed with depression which led me to wonder if men who drink to excess are self-medicating undiagnosed depression, which in turn makes the depression worse.
      There’s a book entitled “The Glass Castle “ that echoes your life. The woman who wrote it tells the story of her father who dragged them around all over the place.

I can only imagine back in that time even though it may have taken a longer time to get to her desensitization, I can only imagine how beautiful all that scenery was along the way, when, people weren’t in such a rush to get to places and, traveling must have been much more enjoyable as well. I’m now going to be anxiously waiting for the next chapter.

    What I really picked up on was her quiet determination. Her personality doesn't seem to be one that puffs up and makes her personality look so much larger than her petite stature that I'm imagining in my head. I also like that she's relying on the customs and the kindness of the culture. For example when the buses dropped her off and she standing in the middle of the road just sure that they would have sent someone to meet her. Just some thoughts. Enjoying the reading

    It's the sound of your voice, not the contents of the book, I find comforting. You could read from the telephone book and have the same effect. Why? You talk like I do. You are a generation removed from me and it reflects slightly in how you speak. A few of your words are a step closer to modern English but for the most part it's the same way I speak. And it's not only the pronunciation, it's the tonality and rhythm of your voice. It's as if I am talking to someone I have known all my life.

I was 15 and he was 17. My first job as a new nurse was home health nursing. I was sent to a place called onion town and there were boundless rumors about inbred people who hated any newcomers. I was so scared looking for the house I was suppose to see an old woman at. It reminded me of that movie Deliverance which made quite an impression on me as I was totally ignorant of certain things.Anyway I found the place and it turned out nothing like I expected. I learned humility and empathy quickly. The people of onion town are very poor, big alcohol and drug problem. Nothing has changed there sadly.
