    Sag kind of acts like power amp compression. Me and the boss at the studio I freelance for were discussing this a couple weeks ago. Bias x is power amp gain as far as I am aware, so yes it will tighten lows a bit.

    • @GuitarsAndSynths
      @GuitarsAndSynths 4 года назад

      was curious about how sag and bias x work as I don't have to set these on my regular ENGL tube amp

    • @AndrewStonerock
      @AndrewStonerock 4 года назад

      @@GuitarsAndSynths I usually just pull the sag back to a 1/4 of the way up or less. I don't like the way it feels when it squishes the signal. Bias x kind of emulates power amp break up, like if you were really driving a master volume.

      @@NickHillMakesMusic Thanks for the fast Reply good to know you are blunt - the other day I heard a piece with a long piano intro on one of your vids, with some guitar sounds, and a percussian sound. It went on for a while and grew in intensity. I can't remember the video, as the music simply transported me somewhere else. I am no slouch for music, it was superb. Hope that was one of yours. Hi. I just found you and subscribed..
    I am wanting to go direct FOH at small clubs and for playing at home and recording. So, I'm looking at the stomp and a couple other products. Is this thing limited in blocks?
    Not that it probably matters.
    Your vid here sounds really really good.
    I just need like 3 sounds or tones. Clean with some compression, edgeof break up, and a pretty high gain SLO or 5150 type tone and a boost and delay for solos. I'm assuming I could do this with just three switches? It would be nice to have scenes where I could jump around too. Will it allow all of this? Can you use a power amp and cab and also go direct? I mean does it have enough in's and outs?

    • @NickHillMakesMusic
      @NickHillMakesMusic  4 года назад +1

      It has a 5 block limit but there is talk it will be extended to 8 with the next update. I've used it to go to a Seymor Duncan PowerStage 170 that in turn powered a 2x12 so you can totally power a cab with this. There are also routing options to send the signal to FOH with the cab block on and still go to an amp and cab without it. Based on your needs, I'd think it'd be a great option.

      Mike Fetters Brother, you’re going to need to do some serious research! An IR is a digital, audio capture of a cabinet. It captures the mic, placement speaker and resonance of said cab in almost perfect resolution. I use OwnHammer IRs and they can be found on their website.

      Is this IR expensive or free ..if so I’m on a budget ...is there any free IR that sound good like this

      OwnHammer does offer a free cab. Otherwise, I know there are free IRs bouncing around the internet but I can’t speak to their quality. I’d really try and find a way to invest in a cab you enjoy or have experience with to start

      I walk through the whole preset my dude. I do not have it available anywhere at the moment. I'm working on pack of IRs so that I can create a preset pack that COME with IRs as well.

      Nick Hill right on! I’ll pull up my HX edit and build a preset from scratch following step by step, I’m just lazy and downloading is easier

    Thanks a lot Nick, this video saved me. I had a whole bunch of free IRs lying around, but everything sounded either super fizzy or boomy no matter what settings I tried. I was about to return the Helix, but your settings + that IR you recommended saved the day. Sounds great now!

      I've been recently sorting through a bunch of free IR's I downloaded a few years ago...most of the tones are terrible and unusable and some of the files are just downright bad. Nothing compared to the Ownhammer and 3Sigma Audio stuff that's out. There are other great companies putting out great stuff, too. Not saying that free stuff can't sound good but most anything I've found that was free is a definite crapshoot.

    my home no pc how to edit?

    Don't know if this question has been asked in the comments, but, what if DON'T have paid IR's? Are you still able to achieve what you've just done?
    Great tutorial video btw. I just picked up the HX Stomp, and it's been quite an experience trying to achieve tones you're used to with an analog setup.

    Anybody know why my LED's won't change colour and are stuck on white?

    • @NickHillMakesMusic
      @NickHillMakesMusic  5 лет назад

      If you assign a foot switch, it takes the color of the FX it’s assigned to. Ie yellow for distortion, blue for reverb

      @@NickHillMakesMusic Ok thanks, I'm really new to all of this so I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing yet.

      Ideally I would like to set up the HX stomp in such a way that each switch is a preset.
      So that when I step on one of the switches, it is turned on and the others are turned off, and visa versa.

      For example:
      Switch one: Rhythm
      Switch two: Lead
      Switch three: Clean

      Is that possible?
      Thanks.

    Bias and sag are a big deal for getting the amp sounding right, not to be overlooked! ;-)
