i guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
Late to the party but I'd like to share this: when it comes to lessons, from a begineer perspective, both Mark (TalkingBass) and Josh (BassBuzz) are amazing! Josh's strength is his ADHD friendly approach, while Mark's strength is his autism friendly approach. Obviously one could (should?) follow both.
Thanks so much dude. I was dreading the day I'd sit down and learn sheet music on bass because I thought it'd be super complicated, but you did a great job at dumbing it down for a noobie like me. Appreciate it!
Thinking about learning the bass guitar and sheet music, that was a really informative and super simple first lesson. I'll be watching the other ones, thank you!
Thanks, I really enjoyed this lesson. I have to listen to it a few more times to really get it. I’ve been playing the bass for several years by ear but I really want to learn to read notes.
I Thank You and love you a lot for posting video about the Bass Study in Guitar . The video helped me in as I had no idea about the bass notes on guitar. Thousands of thanks.
Thank you explaining what a crotchet, quaver etc is. I first started learning to read sheet music on piano 20 years ago and despite being in the UK, I've apparently only ever used the US names! Oops!
I’m a 47 year old and have played Bass everyday since I was a child. I live and Breath music. Music always came natural for me, I remember I could just “jam” at a young age. But I never learned how to read. I can learn a Bach piece by ear in a few hours. But it would be so nice to be able to just look at a chart and play the damn thing. Like immediately. As a younger player I pushed away the idea of reading for years. But only because it was hard for me. Want more session work? Better know how to read fast.
Anna Isherwood This is only the beginning of the first lesson. The whole course is gigantic but you have to start somewhere. Learn the natural notes before any sharps or flats
Position playing. That's how you know which iteration of a note to go for. You want one iteration of any one note. When sight reading it takes too long to be thinking about your choices
You can play it open D string, 5th fret of the A string or 10th fret of the E string. There is no indication of which one (although you can specify open strings with a small o under the stave). You determine the fret to play by the position you’re playing in.
What makes the choice between 5th fret of the E vs Open A? This is the part that really confuses me. Why doesn't everything just stay in the first 3 or 5 frets and never go higher?
I think the choice has to do with preference and what other notes will be played. The choice should use the lesser hand positioning. And fretted notes have more options for bends and pull-offs, etc. But if playing fret less open notes are played for intonation. And different strings have different tone qualities.
I've been playing bass for a very long time and I have never learned to read music. I play by ear, I can read tabs and I know the number system. I just can't get my head wrapped around trying to decipher a music sheet while I'm playing live. Perhaps sheet music is good for when you're trying to learn a new song but when it's time to play live, hopefully you will have the song memorized by then. Is that how it is supposed to work?? I've never seen bass musicians reading music during live performances.
Total 100% newbie here. Are the strings themselves labeled? I see you hitting different strings and telling what frets are what but what about the strings?
No. They are correct. Just google it. The notes are lower on the tenor clef. The middle c is higher up on the stave so the notes on the stave are lower.
Welp, at least this helped me. Because I play the classical guitar at a high level, and my band teacher asked if I could play bass guitar. In my head, I was like, 'oh, it's practically the same.' Now I'm here trying to notate an entire song on bass clef, attempting to learn the bass ;~;
Love this guy. He never talks down to us noobies.
Been playing for years. It's tough to be patient and follow, but I'm glad I found him. I need to learn sheet music. It's rough lol
I am currently taking this course at Talking Bass, can’t believe I’m finally learning to read music. It really works. Thank you Mark.
Oh god bass guitar is the third instrument I'm learning and I've never used this clef, the notes' placements scares me
A Chill TV i have to learn treble clef for anither instrument and I know how to read bass clef just not where to put the notes

Thanks so much dude. I was dreading the day I'd sit down and learn sheet music on bass because I thought it'd be super complicated, but you did a great job at dumbing it down for a noobie like me. Appreciate it!
It’s been a long time since I had a rudimentary knowledge of how to read music. You are making it very easy and comfortable.

WHY DOES HE SAY STAFF LIKE THAT STÆf
Hes probbably irish or scottish
Stave is another word for staff btw
stave refers to the entire set, time sig, key, staff and lines, thats a stave
@@dj_5163 hes from north west england
Æ is pronounced aah
this might be dumb but what do the chords above the music mean? like 8b6 or F7??

What a legend.

reading is power
What about the flats and sharps?

I play drums, why am I subscribed? 😂
+MusicHow , other Word Press sites your subscribed to .
+Candle Flame Entertainment Because you want to understand what the other part of the rhythm section has to go through. ;)
Bass instruments and percussion instruments go hand in hand lol
Have to say even though this thred was years ago , I have to say reading drummers sheet music blows my mind , totally different again from the norm.
What a great introduction to sight reading! Thank you a lot and can't wait to learn more! 🙏
I hate read music so much lol. But that was a great vid
Do you have more advanced lesson.Like with notes over the staff and more complicated rythms?
I noticed you fingered A on the E string and D on the A string. So you shouldn't play the open string except the low E string?
mark is this lesson a book series-if so can you give link
for the low a why don't you pluck the open a string, instead of the fifth fret on the E string?
Position playing. That's how you know which iteration of a note to go for. You want one iteration of any one note. When sight reading it takes too long to be thinking about your choices
I wish i learned this along time ago
So if you have a note on the middle line of the staff (D). Is that played on open D string or 5th fret of A string? What would indicate either or?
You can play it open D string, 5th fret of the A string or 10th fret of the E string. There is no indication of which one (although you can specify open strings with a small o under the stave). You determine the fret to play by the position you’re playing in.

The higher ones is a higher version of the note called an Octave
I think the choice has to do with preference and what other notes will be played. The choice should use the lesser hand positioning. And fretted notes have more options for bends and pull-offs, etc. But if playing fret less open notes are played for intonation. And different strings have different tone qualities.
I don’t understand 😗

I’ve done hundreds of gigs reading music on stage. A lot of them sight reading (no rehearsal). So yes. We do read on stage.
Currently teaching myself how to play sheet music with a bass guitar as I need it for my actor-musicianship lesson 😭
which fret and string is the high b?
Total 100% newbie here. Are the strings themselves labeled? I see you hitting different strings and telling what frets are what but what about the strings?

@@jamiekrehbiel8457 lmaoo yeah i think so
Are you not playing the notes one octave lower then they are written for the keyboard
Hello, I can read bass clef from another instrument of almost 6 years, is there anywhere more advanced music theory but beginner bass playing?
I feel you. I played cello for 8 years
Not gonna lie, he sounds like the meat man from DHMIS 5
Fuck me, this is a lot to fucking remember
Do you have ukrainian relatives? You look so much like ukrainians)
I think your alto and tenor chefs are the wrong way around.
No. They are correct. Just google it. The notes are lower on the tenor clef. The middle c is higher up on the stave so the notes on the stave are lower.
Something patriotic came out of me whenever he said he'd use American instead of euro
Staff not stav
I dont here to clap go straight to the point
