    I don't really understand, why is litium ion is a good choice for bess but lead acid is not a good choice for bess

      lithium batteries are cheaper, and store more energy. That's the primary reason. Aside from that lithium batteries tend to be much longer lasting.
      Lead acid is also complicated by various different battery designs, and output limitations. They do have a high recycle capability though.

      While I don't know much either, my humble opinion would be discharge speed and health?

      Lead acid is less energy dense for starters. You'd need a LOT more batteries to get the same storage capacity. That takes up a lot more space etc.

      Lead acid batteries have a low efficiency in the charge-discharge cycle. Only 60% of the charged energy can be extracted from battery.
