I've heard about that screen protector for a while now, but they don't have the 10.9" iPad Air version yet. I'm wondering if I should get this device as it'd mainly be used for school and (hopefully) mounted in the car for storm chasing. I understand only the Pro having 120hz, but man if high refresh rate isn't great. Currently I still have an iPad 4 (the first "Retina Display" one) that's just used to displaying the radar at home! It's stuck on iOS 10 and too slow to really do anything else.
The ipad pro has a "laminated screen", which makes the tip of the pen really close to the stroke you draw. Does the new ipad air have that same "thin" screen, or does it have the same thicker glass screen that other ipads (and most smartphones and other pads) have?

Keep in mind that the screen is only 60hz. Of course if you never owned an iPad Pro you wouldn't notice but to me it is a big dealbreaker and I actually notice the delay while drawing and doing other things when switching to a 60hz screen. This is honestly so exciting. In a few years I'm sure we'll be at a point where the limiting factors in what an iPad can't do with digital art are so minor that it really won't matter what you're buying. If this had been out when I bought my Pro 2018 then I'd have saved some money, and honestly wouldn't be any shorter along as an artist. Might have to pick one up down the line just as a backup, haha.
Aidan MacKinnon now, it is. But in a few years (4-5 years), it won’t. It depends on how much time do you wanna keep it. If you want it for more than 5 years, get the Pro.
Hey Brad, thanks for this video! I pre ordered a sky blue iPad for myself with an apple pencil 2. I've been watching all your iPad reviews since early this year. I was aiming to get the entry level first but I couldn't get past the non laminated screen and an old A10 chip, so I decided to wait for the iPad air with its new design! Thank you so much and please make more awesome content!!
I had to buy a new iPad Pro recently and your channel really helped with the choice as I was hesitating between that and the iPad Air 4. Now, I also added a Paperlike protection screen but I still find it too smooth compared to the screen protector I used on my previous iPad Pro. I can't remember the brand as it's been a while since I bought it. Would you consider doing a comparison video on screen protectors at some point? That would also be really helpful. About the pencil 2, for once I was really annoyed with Apple for forcing us to buy a new, very expensive pencil, when the old one still works fine. And while I agree that it's cool that it clicks on magnetically, one major drawback is that it's difficult to use a pencil holder. I have tendinitis and the new pencil is really painful to hold after a few minutes. I solved the problem by making a custom, slide-on holder, but that's really a silly move considering how many artists use these and invariably end up injuring their tendons as a work hazard.
I ordered mine the other day, just waiting for the release in Australia this Saturday. This is my entry into the drawing scene, something I've wanted to do for ages but always found the iPad Pro to be too expensive to justify buying it just for drawing, so when the Air got announced I was pretty excited when I saw the price! Awesome videos too, been watching lots of your videos over the last week to learn the basics of everything

Hello Brad! Great Review. One question tho, how much of a downside is the 60 Hz display for drawing? Im an architect student and would like to buy it mainly for sketching. Keep up the good work , cheers.
I am going to buy within a day or two. I am going for the Pro 11 inch variant. The 12.9 feels way too bigger in hand. Not going for the Air because of the 60Hz refresh rate. So using the pencil would be a better experience on the Pro.
As an artist who's never owned any kind of computerised drawing gadget such as an ipad I was considering getting one (to replace my old 2011 Macbook Pro, at least for now) , either the new regular ipad, the new ipad air or the ipad pro 11". But now after seeing the larger 12.9", wow so much more space to draw yet not so portable, so another choosing dilemma!
I don't understand why the new iPad Air 4 is so hyped and even called the “iPad Pro Killer”. If 64 GB is not enough for you, you have to go straight to 256 GB because 128 GB is not available on the iPad Air. Then the gap between iPad Pro and iPad Air is just 50 €, and even if 64GB is enough, the price difference is 200 €. But you can sell it for a higher selling price if you decide to sell it and then you will get a price difference of 100 € or less. Then you get the following advantages: -120 Hz instead of just 60 Hz -Face ID instead of Touch ID -an additional ultra wide angle camera -Lidar scanner -600 nits maximum brightness instead of 500 nits -better processor -higher selling price if you sell the iPad used - thinner display bezels - better speakers -etc.
I found this to be so helpful. I am currently using a first gen ipad pro, huge and heavy. Forever I have been wanting a smaller lighter version that wouldn't cost me sooo much. Seeing as I only using it for drawing and reading this might be the best fit.
Annd after reading your comments on a couple of videos I'm here finally watching your take on the iPad Air Awesome video as usual Would really like to see an iPad buying guide from your Brad! Cheers! Stay home stay healthy! 👍🏼
Do you think 64 GB is enough? Will it affect performance at all? I have had the iPad mini 5 with 256 GB for almost 3 years now, and I'm still only using 52 GB of storage. I mainly use it for procreate and garage band. I'm fairly certain I'll be able to maintain only using around 50GB (I dont like digital clutter and clear stuff out regularly). But because it would be so close to full capacity, would it affect how the iPad works?
This was great! I just bought an iPad Air(4) and it’s my first iPad! I am still waiting for it to arrive- but I was curious to see what I’d gotten myself into- and was wondering about a screen protector like the paper lite- and the Apple Pencil. Thanks for this review!
Hello Brad! After I watch your video, now I'm confuse to buy iPad Air 4 or iPad 9th Gen. Please enlighten me which one should I buy :') My goals is to buy Pro but my budget is not enough. So I decide to buy between iPad Air 4 and iPad 9th Gen...
Thanks so much for this breakdown of the new Air!! One comment: I seem to have read somewhere, that although there is more ram in the new Air (compared to the old one), apps like Procreate cannot effectively use all 4GB of ram - or something to that extent. Have you heard anything about that?
Great review, thank you! I have 2 questions : - Would iPad Air 4 be enough for me ? - Would 64 Go be enough for me ? (I don't want to really do more than Procreate) I would like to buy an iPad to start drawing illustrations with Procreate (but I'm not an illustrator). I mostly want to try doing non very detailled illustrations to print on t-shirts, mugs... And maybe more in the future.
I would love it if it would have had more RAM or if it would have started at 128 GB but now I think it’s way too expensive for 64 GB. I’ll definitely get an iPad when my surface pro dies though
same i really don’t as well but i do love my ipad pro it’s feels very good or drawing but I don’t use my lidar or cameras why I didn’t pick up the iPhone 12 as well
@@Carla-watches yes that’s the one thing I wish as well but I’m not really a fan of this years colours they are like a very little pastel colours apparently sometimes I don’t even look like the colour you have really catch in the right light to see it
I think people don't really get how nice 120hz pro-motion is, it just makes scrolling and using the tablet straight up amazing and feel more smooth that just having a 15% faster single core cpu
I'm actually saving up for one sure it'll take forever but then my procreate dreams will come true, ofc I'd get the pencil next Edit: once I get a job this process will go way faster, I'm young turning 14 soon
You still getting a substantially better device. The screen is slightly bigger higher res and 120hz, you get that 2gb of extra RAM, and if you got the base model, that’s still double the storage. You also have Face ID, Lidar might come in handy. The only thing that the air has above the pro, is the colour choice and that’s subjective, and that processor seems to be better in something, but worse in other things, but looking at the performance of the base model, no one will notice it.
Why pro is better: Face ID, LiDAR, Ultrawide camera,120hz promotion, third-generation A12Z bionic, 12.9 inch and 11 inch, 600 nits brighter screen, and 128gb instead of 64 as starting storage. iPad Pro is better speaking pure power and force, and air has better value bc you get a ton with $599
The new ipad air it's pretty dope but I think that every one need more that 64gb, insted of 64 you are going to pay for the 256gb and that's going to be 750$ or something like that. My point is that for 50$ more you get the ipad pro, is something that some people need to keep in mind
It's a $150 dollar difference, it definitely is more worth it but even then, some people probably would just want a cheaper one with no difference except the storage like me, I'm not saying your wrong you have a point but the price difference is a big factor in what people will choose
I just returned the air yesterday. At high res for procreate I could only get 7 layers whereas with the iPad Pro I exchanged it for I now get 27. Huge difference.
I have a MacBook Air M1 that I use for most of my productivity tasks and work stuff, but I really want an iPad Air for content consumption, some drawing, reading, taking notes, surfing the web, media streaming and playing some games. Nothing too heavy duty. Is 64gb enough? I can’t really afford the 256. I also have lots of cloud storage.
Happy to see an artist perspective on the new iPad. I'm not sure if I should get the iPad Pro 2018 o the new iPad Air. I thought the 60vs120hz would be a big deal but you say is kind of overated. I'm leaning towards the Air because i can buy it new, hope i don't run out of layers on pro create like you said. I'm thinking about doing realistic illustrations with lots of layers, hope 4gb is enough x)
For me personally I'd choose the Pro just for the larger model (if I had the cash) more than likely though I'll end up getting this one though in maybe a year of something. I bought an iPad air 3 last year, gonna get my moneys worth out of that.
I have Air 3 myself. You will get 10.9", Liquid Retina, A14, 12MP, USB C, Magic Keyboard Compatible, Speakers Landscape, Modern Desing, WiFi-6, etc. The only downside is 64GB, I guess it was a marketing decision. The issue comes when you decide to get the 256 GB for $749 but for $50 more you can choice the Pro 2020 11"..... peace

I exclusively use CSP for drawing comics/manga. My old 4 gb RAM ipad pro starts to lag when I reach 50 plus layers on a page. Im liking this ipad air but that 6gb RAM is giving me concern.
Odd. Didn't see this in my recommended till today. Maybe I've been too much in the Hololive void, but hey... Finally the Air review I've been waiting fore! 4GB Ram, is sad news though, not quite worth its asking price. But glad someone finally informing its ram amount.
Thanks for this review :) No...no way. For me much much better the iPad Pro. 6Gb ram, 1Tb storage, 120Hz refresh, stereo speaker, more powerful GPU. Much larger screen. This iPad Air (here in Europe) costs too much compared to a brand new 2020 Pro and also to a refurbished 2018 Pro
Debating between getting this one and the iPad 8th Gen. This one seems better but the 8th Gen I'm looking at does come with 128 GB off the bat. Any opinions?
What did you do? The main thing is if you need many layers or not. If you need many layers, go with the air. If you don’t, go with the 8th or even better the 9th with 64gb.
after the announcement I've been checking the apple site everyday to get this thing looks awesome considering the fact it also has an a14 over the pros a12z is just way better. Can't wait to get my hands on this
I hope I only have money. Because I have difficulty drawing on my Android phone. I hope my dad is still alive so that someone can support my digital art works .. No one even supports my traditional art without buying. so I just decided to use and draw on my broken android phone...... Hahahaha 😂
If I'm mainly going to use the iPad for podcast editing and procreate designs (t-shirt designs, graphic design, instagram content etc.) would you recommend the PRO or the ipad air 4 ??? I want to get the best bang for my buck but im no expert at design - it's just what i love to do and I enjoy creating online.
The only issue with the iPad Air is the storage really. Procreate gulps up around 32 gigs + OS with another 10-15, and you already find yourself uploading everything to the cloud if you have other apps on it :/ 128 gigs option would be a godsent.
I don’t know what to do, I don’t know if I should go with the iPad Air 4 10.9 or the iPro 12.9, im in school and I’m doing design and technology next year, I’ll would be using this iPad for all my classes too. is the bigger one better for students or the smaller on?
I currently use the ipad air 3 that I've owned for a year and a half and it works great. But I do eventually want to upgrade to an iPad pro for the video editing and the USB type c connection. I use procreate and clipstudio all the time without any problems. I did however, had one little problem with my device as the mother board did burn out after the first 6 months and I had to get it replaced.

@@MrJonathansb Yes I know this but I thought that when i say better Provessor than it´s enough.
Name one person who takes photos on their ipad like just buy and iphone there's no need to take photos on a iPad like the thing is so big and bulky
@@Kraursis very much people scan documents with their iPad
I really hope i can buy it next year. I’ll be working part time during semester break and save for this ipad. It will be a great help for my studies!
I found this to be so helpful. I am currently using a first gen ipad pro, huge and heavy. Forever I have been wanting a smaller lighter version that wouldn't cost me sooo much. Seeing as I only using it for drawing and reading this might be the best fit.
No 120hz refresh is my deal breaker. And it’s smaller. But it is a great deal if you’re not used to it.
It’s the ram for me
It’s 0.1 inches smaller than the 11 inch..
Annd after reading your comments on a couple of videos I'm here finally watching your take on the iPad Air
Awesome video as usual
Would really like to see an iPad buying guide from your Brad!

Please enlighten me which one should I buy :')
My goals is to buy Pro but my budget is not enough.
I have 2 questions :
- Would iPad Air 4 be enough for me ?
- Would 64 Go be enough for me ? (I don't want to really do more than Procreate)
I would like to buy an iPad to start drawing illustrations with Procreate (but I'm not an illustrator). I mostly want to try doing non very detailled illustrations to print on t-shirts, mugs... And maybe more in the future.
That’s what I am looking for as well. Buy an external hard drive to save your work and any clipart and it will work fine.
I’ve been waiting for this!! 🥰
This is a great review! I already preordered my iPad Air and will do an unboxing, I'm so excited for it, this will be my first screen tablet 😊
I would absolutely love the air if it wasn't for the size and ram. I really don't use the camera in my ipad pro but oh well
I would love it if it would have had more RAM or if it would have started at 128 GB but now I think it’s way too expensive for 64 GB. I’ll definitely get an iPad when my surface pro dies though
same i really don’t as well but i do love my ipad pro it’s feels very good or drawing but I don’t use my lidar or cameras why I didn’t pick up the iPhone 12 as well
I have a 10.5 2017 pro and as pretty as the air 4 is I feel like if I upgrade then I have to go up a size. Wish the pros had the pretty colors
@@Carla-watches yes that’s the one thing I wish as well but I’m not really a fan of this years colours they are like a very little pastel colours apparently sometimes I don’t even look like the colour you have really catch in the right light to see it
@@Carla-watches I think the 11 we will fine I have the 11
I think people don't really get how nice 120hz pro-motion is, it just makes scrolling and using the tablet straight up amazing and feel more smooth that just having a 15% faster single core cpu
I'm actually saving up for one sure it'll take forever but then my procreate dreams will come true, ofc I'd get the pencil next
Edit: once I get a job this process will go way faster, I'm young turning 14 soon
I bought the air in blue,a pencil, a paperlike protector, and all your procreate classes. Friday will be fun.
I bought an iPad Pro a week before they announced the air 4-
You still getting a substantially better device.
Me too....
Why pro is better: Face ID, LiDAR, Ultrawide camera,120hz promotion, third-generation A12Z bionic, 12.9 inch and 11 inch, 600 nits brighter screen, and 128gb instead of 64 as starting storage. iPad Pro is better speaking pure power and force, and air has better value bc you get a ton with $599
@Tech J 37 yes, it had 6gb ram instead of 4gb on the air
you guys saved my day! I almost felt like I just wasted all this money for the pro :/
you speak so well and clear! this video has really sold me on the ipad air :D keep up the good work
The new ipad air it's pretty dope but I think that every one need more that 64gb, insted of 64 you are going to pay for the 256gb and that's going to be 750$ or something like that.
@@crybaby4501 especially factoring in the pencil price
When I need review, I always come to your channel.
You literally are amazing!
This review just made me purchase the iPad Air 4. 😂 Thanks, Brad! Awesome content! 🔥💯
I've been waiting for this to decide between an Ipad Pro or the Air, thanks a lot Brad.
Same here
The Pro was always too much for me, but the new Air looks like a great deal!
I just returned the air yesterday. At high res for procreate I could only get 7 layers whereas with the iPad Pro I exchanged it for I now get 27. Huge difference.
Do you find that the lack of pro motion on the air makes a big difference when sketching on screen?
That was a really great review! Super informative. Thanks for covering the procreate app + iPad Air.
Best thing : the way introduced screen protector for advertisement 😂😂
I have a MacBook Air M1 that I use for most of my productivity tasks and work stuff, but I really want an iPad Air for content consumption, some drawing, reading, taking notes, surfing the web, media streaming and playing some games. Nothing too heavy duty. Is 64gb enough? I can’t really afford the 256. I also have lots of cloud storage.
Thanks for reminding me to charge the pencil 😄
Great review! I am very happy that you shared this video! I respect you. Very great. I support you very much.
i sell art prints but I’m on a budget, hopefully this is the right choice for me
Happy to see an artist perspective on the new iPad.
7:11 are you drawing Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead?!
For me personally I'd choose the Pro just for the larger model (if I had the cash) more than likely though I'll end up getting this one though in maybe a year of something. I bought an iPad air 3 last year, gonna get my moneys worth out of that.
Anyone saving like me for this same ipad air 4? I just dont know what color to takeee im hesistating a lot with green, sky blue and rose gold 😭
Thank you so much, Brad. This helped a lot making my purchase dicision.
I'm not team ipad but I was really looking forward to this review
Omg thank you so much!
I was in particular waiting for your video!
I’ve the new Air on order. It will be interesting to see if I notice any difference between it and my Gen 3 Air.
The issue comes when you decide to get the 256 GB for $749 but for $50 more you can choice the Pro 2020 11"..... peace
This review just determined which one I'm going to purchase. Thanks for the great review.

As an Artist I decided to upgrade to the Air from the gen 7 32gb. I can't wait for it to arrive.
6gb vs 4gb ram: less app reload, promotion vs 60 hz, no face id, 128gb vs 64gb. I think this worth the higher price.
Yeah I agree. It makes sense that there is that difference in price. With that said, I hope we see an a14 iPad Pro sooner rather than later.

Im a fairly poor freelance comic artist from south east asia, in 2016, i managed to earn enough money and bought the 2015 ipad pro. Its still in excellent condition and I still use it now. I exclusively use CSP for drawing comics/manga. My old 4 gb RAM ipad pro starts to lag when I reach 50 plus layers on a page. Im liking this ipad air but that 6gb RAM is giving me concern.
Brad: ipad air 4 is so good!
My wallet: don't you fooking dare
Do you think the air 4 would be enough for me for drawing? It's a lot of money to commit to this.
i’m so sick of drawing on my iphone with a crappy diy pencil, i want this ipad so much.. but i’m broke :(
Sameeee I hate it
Pencil and paper will always have your back!
I just bought my pro on my phone bill for 2 years 😂😂😂
I had the ipad but I don't have a pencil
Ipad Air 4 or samsung s7 plus? What would you choose? Thank u guys and Brad
When I saw the title, I thought it was a giveaway 😂
Debating between getting this one and the iPad 8th Gen. This one seems better but the 8th Gen I'm looking at does come with 128 GB off the bat. Any opinions?
What did you do? The main thing is if you need many layers or not. If you need many layers, go with the air. If you don’t, go with the 8th or even better the 9th with 64gb.
Is it just me or does the iPad insipre a new generation of artists?
Definitely
after the announcement I've been checking the apple site everyday to get this thing looks awesome considering the fact it also has an a14 over the pros a12z is just way better. Can't wait to get my hands on this
The A12Z is still pore powerful tho
I know exactly what you will say next!!

Bro that paperlike sopnsorship was so smooth
I hope I only have money. Because I have difficulty drawing on my Android phone. I hope my dad is still alive so that someone can support my digital art works .. No one even supports my traditional art without buying. so I just decided to use and draw on my broken android phone...... Hahahaha 😂
great review! is it worth it to switch to this if u already have the air 3?
The big difference is... that it is smaller. The 12.9” is definitely more convenient to work with and it’s only available in the Pro line.
I was waiting for this review 👌🏾
If I'm mainly going to use the iPad for podcast editing and procreate designs (t-shirt designs, graphic design, instagram content etc.) would you recommend the PRO or the ipad air 4 ??? I want to get the best bang for my buck but im no expert at design - it's just what i love to do and I enjoy creating online.
The only issue with the iPad Air is the storage really. Procreate gulps up around 32 gigs + OS with another 10-15, and you already find yourself uploading everything to the cloud if you have other apps on it :/
128 gigs option would be a godsent.
I don’t know what to do, I don’t know if I should go with the iPad Air 4 10.9 or the iPro 12.9, im in school and I’m doing design and technology next year, I’ll would be using this iPad for all my classes too. is the bigger one better for students or the smaller on?
Thanks dad brad! Been waiting for this
Brad brad brad brad the iPads should come with artist gloves
that color palette animation looks cool 6:56
I currently use the ipad air 3 that I've owned for a year and a half and it works great. But I do eventually want to upgrade to an iPad pro for the video editing and the USB type c connection. I use procreate and clipstudio all the time without any problems. I did however, had one little problem with my device as the mother board did burn out after the first 6 months and I had to get it replaced.
