I had a 10th gen iPad ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . Felt it getting pretty slow at times even after doing a reset. So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.
Hey 11 months later are you still liking it? Have you ever written notes on a textbook? My current v old tablet has trouble keeping up with my note taking and I’ve lost pages of notes before. + sometimes the lag is unbearable.
My friend, the video is of a high level of professionalism in photography, selection of soundtracks, production and the way you speak. An integrated experience. I felt like I owned the device
Firstly was thinking of buying ipad for note taking but is very much costly. So, I went for a $50 graphic tablet to give it a try. After practicing for couple of days, I became fluent in writing on it. Saved lots and lots of money.
Honestly, for the majority of students, the $329 iPad is good enough. Those apps are also available in the $329 iPad and although you can’t use the Apple Pencil 2, you can use the Apple Pencil 1 which is cheaper than the 2. What are we gonna use it for? Notes and studying. The newest basic iPad already has a a12 chip which is still pretty darn fast. I get it looks outdated but it’ll have a case anyways so will it really matter? At the end of the day, we’re just a bunch of broke students that need to save as much money as possible
I have been using my iPad Air 4 for about 2 weeks and I already have own a iPad Pro 11 inch , I tried using only my iPad Air for the whole 2 weeks for ( notes, Netflix,RUclips, small gaming apps , listening to songs , prime video) and after 2 weeks I noticed that their is literally no difference , in fact most apps on iPad Air load faster than the new iPad Pro 11 inch , the only difference I found out was the 120 HZ refresh rate on the pro , and the Face ID on the pro , other than that , I highly recommend you buy either the iPad Air 4th gen , or go for the iPad Pro 12.9 ( Plz do not Buy the iPad Pro 11 inch!! )
@@pnkvera He feels the iPad Air essentially does the same thing. It's true to an extent that for most people, this tablet is a worthwhile upgrade over the outdated base model iPad but its hard to justify the extra cost of the Pro. For most people who want a fast, modern iPad with a thin-bezel screen/new iPadOS interface, USB-C, etc its fine. The high refresh rate and Lidar scanner of the Pro is only really useful for particular use-cases.
I am also comparing the same devices, but I think I'm going iPad for longevity. I have a 6 year old iPad Air 2 and still updated to iOS14, on the other side, Android Tablets only update for one year or two.
You know the *2018 11” base model iPad Pro* is such a good deal then the iPad Air 4, people forget that the 2018 once existed. Plus the 11” 2018 base model is $100 more then the iPad Air 4, and you get 120hz, 11” screen, 600nits brightness, 10GB USB C, 4 speaker setup, 5 microphone setup, Face ID. *The A12X is very close to the A14, they’ll preform almost exactly the same*
@@kcguitar9307 From the looks of it, they’ll probably both have the exact software update for years. Because the A12X A12Z(Basically the same as the A12X with a unlocked GPU core, barely gives anymore performance) and A14 preform so similar. If you used all devices side by side without running any benchmarks to see the performance number, the iPad Pro’s would seem even faster due to the 120hz and 6gb of ram*
120hz - I don’t really need it since I don’t even do anything that requires such a high refresh rate. I’m fine with 60hz. 11” screen - Oh yes, comparing that to the 10.9’’ screen, it’s going to make all the difference (sarcasm). 600 nits brightness - I don’t know about you, but who even uses max brightness all the time? 10GB USB-C - If you’re transferring files a lot, this is something to look for, but I barely do so. 5GB/s is fast enough for me. 4 speaker setup - I always use headphones so this literally means nothing to me. 5 microphone setup - If you do a lot of calling, video, and audio recording, this is better. I barely ever do those things. Face ID - I prefer Touch ID. In conclusion, all the things on the iPad Pro models barely mean anything to me because I don’t need them. It’s cool that they have so many features, but why would I pay more for features I have no use for? The iPad Pro is great for the people that can actually make use of those features, but for your average consumers, the air is enough.
Do you think this can be a laptop replacement and I can just have a Windows desktop pc staying at home while I travel and do my college work at various locations on the Air?
I'm actually considering to buy this one so that I'll stop carrying around my 17" laptop. It costed me more than $1000 so I'm starting to get worried about carrying it around everyday from home to school, to my dorm, to work, then back to home... All that movement has started to take a toll on my laptop 😪 I am a heavy user of excel macros but I can always do that work at home, unless strictly necessary I'll bring my laptop to campus but other than that I think an iPad will do the job for the rest of the semester.
@@albacorona2472 I got one recently and it has been a great investment. It has been a very great help. I used this quarantine time to test it with college and I think it works perfectly for me. Give it a shot, return it if it doesn't work out.
I bought the iPad Air and the magic keyboard back in May. Earlier today i bought the Apple Pencil and it’ll be here Wednesday. Excited to take notes on it next year in college
I just bought an iPad Air 4, Logi Combo Touch, and MetaPen Pencil A14 (Which attaches and charges magically) for when I start college here in a few weeks. So far, I love this set up.
Im a junior high school and this ipad is pretty neat! I love the sky blue color and the 64 gigs are already enough. I bought 3rd party accories to keep my budget safe since apple is pricy.
hello, which one should I choose? iPad air 4 or iPad 8, because the function I want to give it is simply for university use, I am going to study a master's degree in computer science engineering, take notes, read the books, surf the internet, write documents in Word, I've never had an iPad, which one should I get? thank you very much for your video by the way
As a university student you’d probably need a lot of storage and constantly have to import and export documents, the iPad 8 has a regular apple charging port and if you want to export stuff you’re going to have to invest in an adapter whereas the iPad Air 4 features a usb c which most external drives n stuff like that feature as well. As for note taking, there isn’t a huge difference in the speed however the air 4 does have a larger screen which is always better for note taking. If you want to use any designing apps, with an iPad 8 you may have less layers than the air 4 and multitasking (two apps at once) in the air 4 is smoother than the 8 as well. Also, the iPad Air 4 is newer than the 8 therefore it has more software support hence you can use it longer. Basically if you can afford an air 4 you should go for it, if not then go for the 8.
@@naur122 I agree, and if he cannot afford the iPad Air 4, I recommend the iPad Air 3 with laminated display and same A12 chip over the iPad 8. It is nicer to write on.
I have used the pro 12.9 all semester long with the Logitech Slim Folio Pro keyboard (amazing) and the Logitech Pebble mouse. I have a knock off pencil. Altogether, I have loved the whole experience of it. Just getting to switch between different mediums and incorporate some creativity into your otherwise monotonous studies. The only issue is that if you are expecting this to work like a computer, you will quickly realize you are at the mercy of each individual app. Some apps incorporate the full computer experience while some definitely do not. Apple's office apps work really well, (pages, keynote...) and they are preferable to the limited versions of MicOffice to me at least. Microsoft Word is pointlessly limited, and a bit glitchy, so if you are trying to write papers and such, you will quickly tire of it. Learn how to use pages thoroughly instead and it is a great experience, which, I'm sure is what apple is aiming for. All in all, I could not recommend a better device for college if you have additional access to full desktop or laptop computers when you need to really get to the nitty gritty.
Can't agree with you more, I love this iPad and wanted to buy it until I found the 64gb. 64 gb in 2020???!!! I didn't think this was even a possibility anymore lol and the 256gb put it in the iPad pro price which I didn't buy because I thought it was too expensive, and I would choose the pro over the air because it is a bit better and the 128gb is enough. So no iPad air for me.
@@TonyDaExpert I bet they did it on purpose. They are really making me go through decisions now. I wanna buy an in a couple months or so but I am super divided between 64gigs air or 128gigs pro. No reason to go 256 gigs for me with just 50 dollars less where as I get perfectly balanced 128 gigs and a better ipad. Really confusing
I just bought this, I can’t wait for it to arrive!! I’m really undecided about the pen though... I would use it only to write my notes, do you think non-Apple pens are good enough?
The ones off Amazon like the one he showed is fine. They usually support the Apple Pencil software so it will have palm rejection and be fairly smooth. If you're just writing and marking up, it's fine - I would only recommend the Apple Pencil for illustrators who shade and need the particular pressure sensitivity of the Apple Pencil.
@@elizabethlafleur3267 yeah sure. And you can also enable dictation for text.. so if there's some lengthy text like a novel, Siri will read it out for you. Kinda like an audiobook
I have until three weeks after christmas to return my iPad and upgrade the storage and get the cellular ipad because not having a cellular connection. I also haven’t used an ipad in 4 years. Its taking some getting used to. I’ve had it since the 12 of November
I’ve never understood why people care about the color of their Apple products because like, who’s not walking around with a case on them? If you do, you’re a brave soul.
Does the pen react faster then Apple Pencil 1 even if it’s 60hz. 60hz really bothers me especially when I’m doing fast writing on my current iPad. it just trails behind by a considerable margin...plus I’m using a 144hz monitor
What are your thoughts on using this iPad Air for maybe say a lab class and test taking? I’m in the market for buying a new laptop bc my class requires we bring our own to do labs...but it sounds like this might be a cheaper option and space saver than to buy a macbook, which I don’t have the funds for atm.
I use my iPad for school, so much easier to carry, I even have my books on there (either an ebook or scanned the pages I need). I can highlight the books and everything on the iPad. It’s all I need to bring to class. HOWEVER, you just need to make sure that the testing program your school uses works on the iPad. I’m in grad school and we use examplify and it does not work well on the iPad for the exams we use (writing essays).
I'm 14 turning 15 this year, it will help me take notes and do math because I'm homeschooled. Yes I saved up to buy one, and a laptop isn't an option because it would've been slow due to the price.
Review is really helpful, so thank you for that! However, I think the scope of comparison with older options and the ipad pro at a significantly higher price is a bit unfair for the ipad air in my opinion. Anyways great content keep it up!!
Harris I enjoy your reviews for one specific thing first you dont have horrible music annoying me in the background and two your videos do not feel produced at all it sounds like its all information so its great.....Im an old guy and not that sure about technology heck I just let go of my blackberry! so its good to get the perspective of someone completely immersed in technology...great job
Great review! I’ve been looking at getting either the new air or the 8th gen iPad for taking notes in nursing school...however I’m not sure if it’s worth to pay extra for the air if I’m just using for notes. I will still have my MacBook Air for typing papers etc
I would say in that case look at getting the 2019 iPad Air 10.5 to save money, its better than the 8th gen iPad as the laminated display makes a difference when writing notes. The base model has a plasticky non-laminated display that in my opinion makes it harder to write precisely and requires more effort than you should. It has the same A12 chip and actually thinner bezels than the 8th gen iPad so I still recommend getting an older Air/Pro model in your budget.
In the uk the same iPad that costed you 599 dollars costs 780 dollars thanks to the conversion and the taxes. Also I think is not such a big problem to cost 100 dollars more than the original iPad of 10 years ago. The inflation exist is normal that the price is higher.
Just wondering if the 64GB is enough for UNI use? I am only using the iPad specifically for Uni and nothing else. Photos or videos would not be store on the iPad but would have to download a couple of useful apps
Totally enough , photos and videos always take a massive share of our phones memory storage. My videos and photos take up about 30gb on my 64gb IPhone . And I have very few photos , they’re just high quality which takes up more memory.
I have a MacBook Air M1 that I use for most of my productivity tasks and work stuff, but I really want an iPad Air for content consumption, some drawing, reading ebooks and PDFs, taking some notes, surfing the web, media streaming and playing some games. Nothing too heavy duty. Is 64gb enough? I can’t really afford the 256. I also have lots of cloud storage.
i really can't decide between the 64 and 256 options. i am a music student and i would use i ipad mainly for studying and reading music... i guess 64 would be enought but idk
120hrz got me thinking but I heard a rumour nothing below A13 will be future proof for console level games and high graphic in the future, with 4RAM graphic limit. I know iPad pro 2020 is new but might get left behind.
Actually the A12z blows the A13 out of the water in terms graphics But it’s better to wait for the A14z cause it’s going to be another monumental leap in performance and a new mini led display
yep!! The Palm Rejection is nice and the Apple pencil 2nd gen is better than the older one, since it's charging more conveniently and better in general. As he said 60Hz refresh rate may be less than 120Hz of the iPad Pro but if you haven't used an iPad Pro, it won't make that big of a difference. Watch out whether 64 gb is enough though. But the iPad Pro has more RAM which means it can handle more layers and more storage. It's only slightly better but the Air is cheaper and also really good. BUT this is based on other rewievs, I'm getting mine for Christmas.
Just bought this, as my first ever tablet... first ever apple product even!! I feel like such a sell out. but this is so worth the envirinmental and study support. I regret I didn't get this for Spring semester during COVID!! either way. I'm really intrigued by this apple clone pencil for 100 cheaper. I went with both cellular and the 256 GB (because my campus wifi is SHEEYAT ya'll. and I am gonna be there A LOT in the fall, and doing field work with it during the summer) but I digress. if I can still save on the pencil, you better believe I'm gonna. I don't own any apple products but plan on buying an iPad air for university. So my question: are there any good apps for note-taking, creating presentations etc.? If not I'll rather go for a windows laptop.
For someone that mostly want's to dedicate the ipad to illustrate with procreate, which one is better? Most reviews are only for students that have to read and take notes but nothing for artists 😅🥺
I want a new ipad (i have the ipad air 2 with only 12gb and its very limitating) but i'm kinda frustrated by the storage in this new ipad air. I don't want to buy the pro cause i won't use it like a pro, but i want to have stuff like netflix, disney+, amazon prime, and all the social media apps, maybe some photos, videos and books too and let's say i would draw a little, but just for fun. Those are the main reasons why i don't think i should buy the pro. But is the 64gb model enough for all of that? If not, should i buy the ipad pro 11-inch?
Next year I’m going to study Biomedical Sciences and I want a note-taking iPad where I can also make a lot of drawings/hand written summaries on since it involves a lot of images of eg. cells and organs. I am in the middle of deciding what iPad to get next. I just sold my iPad Pro 10.5 and I'm thinking that I made a mistake after watching this video. WHY you must ask? Because your details clearly point out that my 10.5 was way better. I never really did the research. I am not a vlogger, blogger, photo editor, video creator... just a simple web browser, social media stalker, and playing standard games. I feel like I just lost $250 because that's the difference between the standard 64GB Air price tag and my old 2017 Pro 512GB.. So if I could end this rant for now, would you say that I would be okay with 64 GB? The biggest app that I had on my old iPad was Affinity Photo and that was rarely used because I threw a filter on everything from FB, SC, and IG. LOL. I had 72 apps, 900 downloaded songs, and everything else was optimized to iCloud.

@@s.coverology I was debating this too. I decided to get the air 4 because it’s more updating and has a lot more features so I can use it for many years. I ended up getting the 4 in green and I love it!
@@s.coverology don’t get the iPad 8 for school. I’m a psych major and hate it. I recommend the air4 or pro.

I feel like I'm watching a christmas movie
Just got this for grad school and I’m loving it. Never been an apple person before so having to learn the ropes but it’s pretty easy.

Get the 2017 10.5 inch pro or the old air 3 in that case, not having laminated and True Tone really ruins the experience
Bro that lighting port sucks on the other hand air's type c port is very handy
I have been using my iPad Air 4 for about 2 weeks and I already have own a iPad Pro 11 inch , I tried using only my iPad Air for the whole 2 weeks for ( notes, Netflix,RUclips, small gaming apps , listening to songs , prime video) and after 2 weeks I noticed that their is literally no difference , in fact most apps on iPad Air load faster than the new iPad Pro 11 inch , the only difference I found out was the 120 HZ refresh rate on the pro , and the Face ID on the pro , other than that , I highly recommend you buy either the iPad Air 4th gen , or go for the iPad Pro 12.9 ( Plz do not Buy the iPad Pro 11 inch!! )
This is quite subjective. I’m using my ipp11 inch 2020 for court trial and meetings it works great.
why do you suggest not buying the 11 inch?
@@pnkvera He feels the iPad Air essentially does the same thing. It's true to an extent that for most people, this tablet is a worthwhile upgrade over the outdated base model iPad but its hard to justify the extra cost of the Pro. For most people who want a fast, modern iPad with a thin-bezel screen/new iPadOS interface, USB-C, etc its fine. The high refresh rate and Lidar scanner of the Pro is only really useful for particular use-cases.
I am comparing the samsung tab s7 and the ipad air 4. I think I will go for the ipad 4. Thanks for the good review 👍
I am also comparing the same devices, but I think I'm going iPad for longevity. I have a 6 year old iPad Air 2 and still updated to iOS14, on the other side, Android Tablets only update for one year or two.

great video buddy. loved your honesty on the various aspects of the device.
*The A12X is very close to the A14, they’ll preform almost exactly the same*
Yeah but the air will get more software support hence can be used for longer
@@Pineapple438 600 nits brightness is very helpful when watching movies, that have dark scenes. But in the end it’s your choice to pick what you want.
I do it for 5 years of software support, the nice colours, and the better processor.

note-taking
4k video editing

Just gonna ignore the 3 other things he mentioned?
@A totally, paperless note taking is the main reason for me to buy an iPad ✍️
As I am student...note taking is 1st point...and ofcourse I play games...and little bit editing of my stupid photos and many more .....
Do you think this can be a laptop replacement and I can just have a Windows desktop pc staying at home while I travel and do my college work at various locations on the Air?
Exactly what I’m thinking, need that response lol
Absolutely yes

Good choice 👍🏼 u won’t regret it
I bought the iPad Air and the magic keyboard back in May. Earlier today i bought the Apple Pencil and it’ll be here Wednesday. Excited to take notes on it next year in college
Hey! I hope you’re having a good day/night, may i know your pov about this ipad?
I just bought an iPad Air 4, Logi Combo Touch, and MetaPen Pencil A14 (Which attaches and charges magically) for when I start college here in a few weeks. So far, I love this set up.
this is such a good review for students!
Im a junior high school and this ipad is pretty neat! I love the sky blue color and the 64 gigs are already enough. I bought 3rd party accories to keep my budget safe since apple is pricy.
hello, which one should I choose? iPad air 4 or iPad 8, because the function I want to give it is simply for university use, I am going to study a master's degree in computer science engineering, take notes, read the books, surf the internet, write documents in Word, I've never had an iPad, which one should I get? thank you very much for your video by the way
Think you would be good with just the 8then of you don’t plan on doing any editing or heavy work
The ipad 8 will do fine but if you can, get the air fs, usbc and just a better faster experience, and it is way more productive that way
As a university student you’d probably need a lot of storage and constantly have to import and export documents, the iPad 8 has a regular apple charging port and if you want to export stuff you’re going to have to invest in an adapter whereas the iPad Air 4 features a usb c which most external drives n stuff like that feature as well.
I know right.. they didn’t even put a 128gb option.. I wonder if they did that on purpose to just get people to buy the pro instead :p
Waiting for the comparison between iPad 8 and air !
I just bought this, I can’t wait for it to arrive!! I’m really undecided about the pen though... I would use it only to write my notes, do you think non-Apple pens are good enough?
@Giorgia Lain You don’t have to get an apple pencil, though it is recommended.
@@User-cb4jm agree! I have one of the non-Apple pens he has reviewed and it works great!

I have until three weeks after christmas to return my iPad and upgrade the storage and get the cellular ipad because not having a cellular connection. I also haven’t used an ipad in 4 years. Its taking some getting used to. I’ve had it since the 12 of November
Thinking of adding the Logitech Smart Keyboard to the iPad. It’s a great machine and might even replace my laptop.

It has the same A12 chip and actually thinner bezels than the 8th gen iPad so I still recommend getting an older Air/Pro model in your budget.
he is giving quality tech .he is so awesome
Considering you will have this device for the next 2 years then it is not sufficient.

As long as you have iCloud storage, the 64GB is fine since the larger files will be saved on iCloud (photos, videos).

Ipad air 4 of course
Apple has a bigger app variety and better palm rejection. Also the pens are better.
@@d.3578 no. The apple pencil is not better. It is better by miles!

Very detailed. Thanks!
Next year I’m going to study Biomedical Sciences and I want a note-taking iPad where I can also make a lot of drawings/hand written summaries on since it involves a lot of images of eg. cells and organs. I would love an iPad Air or Pro because of the Apple Pencil support, but my main doubt is the storage space. Will 64 GB really be enough? I won’t install any games bc that’s too distracting but I might download a ot of textbooks though. 128GB seems like a safe option but then I would have to go for the more expensive Pro. Which one is best for me (and how much storage space?)
LOL. I had 72 apps, 900 downloaded songs, and everything else was optimized to iCloud.
i had 10.5 pro as well and i upgraded to a 11 inch pro 2018 that’s what i would recommend no regrets
Anyone here who bought the 64gb then used an external drive? How's the experience?
i was wondering the same
