- Today, Bobby Angel shares a little bit about what he learned from working with people in AA. One of the things that came up time and time again was people holding on to secrets that were causing them great distress-things that were a source of shame or guilt that were eating them up from the inside.
Bobby offers some guidelines on how to bring those things to the light in a healthy way by finding a good therapist or counselor. It is humbling to feel weak and vulnerable, but God's grace can bring about healing when we talk about those secrets that fester under the surface.

Thank you.I recently experienced deep healing after confession of something which was a wound ,rather than a sin.I carried the pain for several years and could not share it. I went to confession a couple of times,and raised the topic. It was sympathetically received and a new perspective offered. I have been amazed to find the issue no longer troubles me.I was previously tormented and could not find peace.

i think the sacraments are the best or only way especially if you don't have anyone or anyone trustworthy. if that's compounded by trust issues then this is the only avenue.

Awesome video! what a gift you were given. Simple but not easy, my humanness gets in the way. I'm a 57 year old Cradle Catholic that was an alcoholic age 15-40. Alcoholics Anonymous brought me back to the truth and the truth brought me back to the church. Service work keeps me honest and thoughtful of other people. I see my faults in other people but I also see God. Just another sinner doing my best to live in the light of God's grace, one day sometimes minute at a time. I pray that God continues carry my burdens and help me to accept his will for me whatever that may be. 17 years sober thanks to Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Amen

Sometimes it's difficult to remedy due to the layers (like an onion) that must be pealed away that took a lifetime to accumulate. It's painful, be patient with yourself. It will be well worth the effort now for there will come a time when the Father calls us home; an eternity of peace, unity and love in the presence of our maker will be the reward (good and worthy servant)!
Hold on loosely but don’t let go, if you cling too tightly, you’re going to lose control…I thought of this in my meditation.

Thank you.I recently experienced healing from confessing a secret in confession.It was not a sin ,more a wound,that I did not open up to for years.. Quite painful. I was amazed and surprised how this has been lifted off of me after suffering so long when not sharing the secret.

Thank you for this video.. I suffer from scrupulosity very bad. I frequent the sacraments as best as I can, speak with priest, and a spiritual director. I feel like even when I’ve brought my ugliest sins to the light I’m forgiven but the shame and guilt lingers and reminds me of the past when I’m suffering especially.
It goes deeper. Do what you need to do because life is short on earth.

I totally understand the kicking and screaming, but in the end therapy is worth it, especially to unpack the baggage we probably all carry (with different "sizes"). It had to become a question of survival for me (bottling up things to the point of exhaustion that came out to be a lot of "suppressed" anger, for example) until I finally get the need to get help through therapy.
"Encanto" is indeed a masterpiece for how it tackles relationships and what they imply at the psycological level. It is already successful, but I guess we could gain more from it specially combined with counseling/therapy

I've found that healing comes from revelation from my past. Couldn't find inner peace. Didn't know until I took a moral inventory. I used the 7 deadly sins as an measure. And the confessional to overcome the hinderences. Takes time.

Hi Bobby, Sorry about your uncle. I think this is an important message. May I add to it? I am reading Orthodox Psychotherapy by Hierotheos, and just today I read (paraphrasing) what makes us sick is when our rational capacity is ruling rather than being subordinated to our 'nous' (that is, the highest part or eye of our soul). Healing in this context, while not obviating psychological healing as mentioned here, has to do with our deification (CCC 460) in Christ, who, as you say, is the Truth, and it is He/this Truth, that sets us free (the “only way...”). 'Flourishing' in this context, and 'abundant life', has to do with experiencing the Holy Spirit within our heart as a perennial reality which never ceases. Abbot Nicholas talks about 4 Levels of the Human Being: 1) Physical, 2) Emotional, 3) Intellectual, and 4) Mystical or Spiritual. All the levels are important. But, the most important is our recognition that God is our Life, as you presumably do in Adoration. As K. Ware noted, in a similar fashion, “Psychoanalysis discloses to us one type of 'self'; all too often, however, it guides us, not to the 'ladder that leads to the kingdom', but to the staircase that goes down to a dank and snake-infested cellar. 'Know yourself' means 'know yourself as God-sourced, God-rooted; know yourself in God.” This, of course, is in line with aspects of what you are saying. Just thought I would add a bit as I am studying it. Thanks so much, appreciate your message. God bless you😊
Bobby, forgive me, but I am reading Illness and Cure of the Soul in the Orthodox Tradition and two nights ago I read this:
“Healing is associated with union with God, the attainment of deification. The therapeutic method of anthropocentric psychology is clearly different from that of Orthodox psychotherapy.
“There are Fathers alive even today. I have seen their reservations about psychology.
“We want more than psychological balance; we are looking for fullness of life.” [pp. 60-67]
He says that we in the West are not aware of the hesychastic and neptic tradition of our Church. That is what the book is about.

This sort of reminds me of a video from Like Stories of Old titled "Radical Honesty - What If We All Told The Truth?"
Towards the end it talks about a destructive form of repressed anger that most of the population carries with them subconsciously, and it is especially prevalent in people who have had a friend or family member commit suicide.
It's good and I'd suggest a watch. It complements this video quite well.

Ask God to show you how to get out. Ask that you be connected to one person you can confide in & get direction from. One day at a time. Count some blessings every day...the most basic of things. Try journaling/writing your thoughts/feelings. Spend time in nature, just walking in a beautiful place will lift you up. My God always lead you & bless you.

It's a fine beginning. But if you're keeping close what has been done to you, rather than your own doing, you may need more, and different help.
But its so hard because i know if i tell the truth they will be so hurt and upset

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles and madness in this world today, God is full of justice, mercy and love.
Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be
destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans
. The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom.
If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He will help us through the struggle, the stress, and anything we experience in the world. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves, we need Him to help us as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction).
He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place.
He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it.
He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way.
Christ says in John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]

I don’t think most therapist now are a valid way to receive healing when majority of them don’t incorporate God because they don’t have him themselves.
Generalizations can be unfair. picking the right therapist is always a challenge. We Carholics need one that understands that our religion provides us with love and the ultimate forgiveness, not guilt and shame as religion is often viewed.
One has to be discerning with a therapist and perhaps even more than with a friend.
Jesus Christ, peace be upon him, brought high morality into this world, thereby he changed this world, changed the matrix of human perception! He prepared this world for the coming of the COMFORT about which he prophesied, announced the coming of the spirit of truth, which will speak not of itself! What does it mean to speak not from oneself? Who in history brought something that he called a revelation from God, and in which book after the New Testament is there a mention of Jesus, peace be upon him?
This book is called the Quran and tells the story of Jesus peace be upon him in Surah "Maryam" and "The Family of Imran"
The soil that Jesus the world prepared for him was one of the main reasons that Islam spread so quickly! His words recorded in the Bible: "Hear, Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength" - this is what Muslims believe today and this is what Adam, Noah, Abraham, David, Solomon, Moses, peace be upon them all preached about, they all spoke about the One God, and did not say anything about the son of God! This God is described in the Quran! Take a look back and tell me who changed the course of history as the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, changed it? Who called to bow to God all the prophets after Jesus, peace be upon him? Is there after Jesus peace be upon him, a person comparable in the call to the One and Only God with Muhammad peace be upon him?
If the Koran were not from God, then it would not tell about the Living, Existing God, the God of Abraham! Many signs of the day of judgment have already come true, the next one who will come will no longer be the Comforter, but the Antichrist. Read the revelations and accept what your Mind accepts, your mind is from God and He will ask in accordance with what He has given! No need to treat life like a lottery, look for the Truth! Having witnessed faith in the Trinity and faith in the son of God, you automatically testify that you do not believe in the One and Only God, the God about whom the Prophets brought news! "The Lord, our God, the Lord is one", One means One, not only One for all people, but also One in His Essence who has no Partners in the creation of everything that exists!
P.S. The Holy Spirit is a hypostasis of God and cannot carry prophetic functions and be sent by someone! If he can, then he is limited to a third person and does not fall under the definition of God in the Bible, as he is limited and does something against his will.
