@@WizzyImz Sure, but a full EPL season is a lot tougher than a season in the Eredivisie. For example, in the EPL they do not really care if a Champions League game is tightly squeezed in between a league game. I just do not think it is realistic for an 18 year old to play 90 minutes in every game.
The first green flag I had with INEOS was that their first course of action was not to change the playing squad or even the manager, but overhaul our club hierarchy from top to bottom, with the likes of Berrada to Ashworth. Only after they had a proper structure in place did they start going in for players. That's the biggest green flag I've had as a United fan about my club in 12 years, any other year we'd have sent in a 100m bid for Nico Williams and a 80m bid for de Ligt and just waited for either one to click, and gotten random players at the very end to fill in gaps. Now we seem to have a structure, clear plan for which positions to target and multiple options for each position.
Says a lot that a football club actually functioning like a football club is a green flag for us but that's how bad it was under the Glazers and Woodward lmao.

I’m similar and in my 40’s, I went to OT four or five times as a youngster, mid-late 90’s. I still remember the spectacle of it all, the noise, the crowd, how high up we seemed, it was absolutely incredible. Alas,I’m of cockney heritage so they’re by no means my local team, and I’ve stayed neutral all my life..the other option was West Ham so…

@@IKharku Absolutely its Pep's last season or close to it. You can already see the impacts of that and the charges in their recruitment (or lack of) and departures. A city wihout Pep is a way different City. And in terms of Liverpool, Slot has taken on a lot and is a big risk that could take a long time to get right or a short time to get wrong! I personally feel that your in the strongest position you've been in through the last ten plus years. I may even make it back to Old Trafford if they keep on like this!

Rory, Lille would not accept Real Madrid's much lower offer. Leny wanted to go to Madrid but Lille basically told him they would not accept the lower offer, period. The Man United offer was more than double what Madrid offered. There are rumors Lille threatened to bench him for a year if he didn't accept the Man United offer. Make no doubt about this, Leny's decision was purely based on money and Lille's desire to maximize the sale. The decision was NOT based on football considerations. As a Man United fan of 30+ years, even I would still choose Real Madrid (RM) lol... who wouldn't...? ask any footballer, and Real Madrid (guaranteed Champions League (CL) football because the same three teams finish top 3 every season in La Liga) RM are also current CL winners... so of course RM be the top of the list for career reasons for every player. But if that doesn't work out, and your second choice is Man Utd, who are 3rd in the top 5 teams in world football and prestige (1. Real Madrid, 2. Barcelona, 3. Man Utd, 4. Bayern Munich, 5. Liverpool/Man City) then you can't complain. It's not like his second choice was way down the list of prestige like a Spurs, or Sevilla.

What this tells us: They've signed Leny Yoro. On a more serious note, I think signing younger player of a specific profile was always going to be the way to get them out of the decline they've been in. They basically made the same mistake Arsenal did during the last few years of Wenger. ''Oh we're only 3-4 really good signings away from competing'' and even if you'd get those players, it's not enough to stop a very widespread systemic decline. it's so easy to get baited into thinking 3 players fixes problems that have festered for years. It remains to be seen if this fixes anything for them, but it's a good start.

For United this isnt massive wages, United operate on a different level to other premier league clubs revenue despite not being that good. United were some of the highest earners in the world

It's still a bigger fee than what I'd like for us to be shelling out on a player but there's no doubt he's a talented young player that's already established himself at 18. The fact Madrid were interested in him but unable to sign due to their spending elsewhere makes him a fairly safe bet. Provided he continues to improve over the coming years his value is only going to increase. Therefore, even if Madrid to come calling in 4-5 years they're going to have to pay big for him so it's a win win. Also there's no doubt that Ineos and the new board are a professional outfit and the transfer strategy has obviously changed for the better at Utd. Getting business done quickly and efficiently as well as signing top targets for the manager and the profile of player changing from big names that have peaked to up and coming talents is what was needed.
After a single season in the French league I hope he does well. Leroy has a lot to prove for that fee.

He was joining Madrid for free at the end of his contract, it was basically done. Man United just spent around 70M on a player with 1 year left on his contract, and the only reason the player accepted is because Lille forced him to accept United's offer, telling him if he doesn't accept he won't play again for a whole year.

Yoro is also very marketable, he is a family guy with younger siblings,is likeable and can easily connect with casuals and cross over.
Rival fans don't understand the relief of seeing a signing that makes sense. He won't single handedly win us a league but he is young, huge potential and hopefully signals the type of transfer we can expect going forward. We'll need 2/3 windows before we can compete but just happy to see football people making the decisions.
