How Leny Yoro Solves Man United's BIGGEST Problem

  • Manchester United have signed Leny Yoro from Lille for just shy of £60m. It's a transfer fee that's being called "inflated" but, given Erik ten Hag's defensive shortcomings last season, could it actually work out to be a bargain? Adam Clery takes a lot at what the player offers, and what Man United really need, to find out.

You mentioned a few times how he’s not a front foot defender. But didn’t really mention how that’s the perfect fit for Martinez. It allows him to be aggressive without worrying about leaving a slow Maguire or a crocked Varane behind to cover. That’s what makes him so valuable. Martinez is key to everything.

United doesnt need more players that just yeet the ball forward to yeet it forward.. We need more players that are smart about it and prefer to maintain posession. Make a forward pass when it results in a chance and he did some quite good passes towards the offensive line he just wasnt in a rush to do so... How often did we talk about how Man United rushed things and made unnecessary decisions when they could do a more reasonable play maintain possession and look for holes in the defence.. Yoro is just what we need. Also yes he is young and still have much growin to do but found it funny how fans have already gone out and spread excuses for Yoro, he is young we cant expect a class player so young... When the game he has played showed quite the performance IMO. I mean sure he isnt a nr1 defender in the world right now but why are we defending a man that is already doing fantastic? haha

Surprised his progressive passing stats are so low given how he played against Rangers. I'm not really worried about his ability to do so. Sometimes stats just show what a player did/didn't do, not necessarily what they're capable of

That's why I don't Braithwaite should be signed
Yoro is a progressive defender yet
He needs a partner like martinez that progress quickly and more confidence.
But united fans are in love with his left foot and his size

Thank you for actually contextualising the data and making sense of it. Definitely a starter for me. Best 11 would what you pick at the end but with Mount having Mainoo and Mount as two 8’s, just throw the kitchen sink at teams and go aggressive 😂
Can you please do a video on comparing, somehow, England golden generation v now and if Southgate would have managed that side better then Hoddle, Sven and Capello? And vice versa? Does that make sense?

Man City got faster with Savinho signing... alongside Doku... so I think Man U still needs De Ligt for more CB depth and I like Wan-Bissaka and Dalot at RB... not sure why we're going after Mazraoui.... Shaw and Malacia (Hopefully he recovers well) and Amass at LB seems fine... I guess if you have to nitpick.. a young speedy RB would be great but any world class team would be after that too lol

    1. Yoro is nor better at reading danger, at 18, than Varane or Maguire.
    2. Lisandro Martinez MUCH quicker than Yoro, thus the problem was already technically solved with his return from injury.
Nevertheless, top top talent. Paid way over the odds for him with 1 year left on deal, but you're paying for the potential... and he could easily be one of the best. This season though, I reckon you'll see a high number of mistakes and Yoro largely protected. Martinez and Maguire start.

    • @jon3416
      @jon3416 Месяц назад +1

You lost me at Maguire reading danger. The guy is the danger. If it isn't his erratic clearances under pressure, he's rough-tackling the opposition. We're lucky he's British and the refs overlook most of these. From the Rangers game alone you can see the stability and calmness this kid brings to the back line. With Maguire it'd be 10+ passes to Onana who'd be then forced to go long and give up possession. Lisandro complements him and it's a different position so no point comparing them. Just like with Mainoo, people try to point out little flaws in his game, when it's crystal clear how good these young lads are! He'll be exceptional you can already see it

man united biggest problem is the disconnection in-between lines, midfield and wingers dont help defending most times, and games are won and lost in the midfield

    • @changeafrica5513

Not really it’s because the defense are to slow and leave huge gap in behind for the attackers and midfielders to cover
ETH took a very bold step to stick with his system regardless of having good defenders or not and he wasn’t scared of the gap created just to make sure the attackers and midfielders understand their spacing when the right system is in place 😊

just a correction. his market value is £47m (united paid £42m base fee), his actual valuation from lille was initially €100m, but they were resigned to the fact they had to accept less to gain something. madrid were only willing to pay €30m. madrid don’t determine market and club value.

If we go along with the assumption that our CB were the reason that we couldn't press high cohesively because they are unathletic; then United need another CB as none of the other options are very mobile.

    Let's not get too excited.
Man United's biggest problem is midfield instability, and it's still unsolved. We still have only Mainoo as the quality midfielder there, and untill it's solved, every Tom, Dick and Harry will continue to outplay us as it always has been, and Yoro+Martinez will continue to face arssnals of assault week in, week out
