Anybody who's played this game in the arcade knows that this is one of the best games of all time
can confirm. was lucky enough to play in back in the day. was always one of my favorites. But damn, this was a quarter eating beast.
❤️
Absolutely!!
They had this cabinet at a round table pizza by my house growing up... I used to love this game, I would always go with my mama dukes to get pizza and play this game... Great childhood memory
As many here, I made the first contact with this game when child. Now I'm finally on my way to beat it. Already did it on easy mode. Now trying normal before going for hard mode. That's some kind of life milestone. Antonio, 32, long haul truck driver from Brazil.
Sunset Riders, Turtles in Time, and Megaman X 1-3 always made for the best sleep overs.
They recently placed an arcade at my local mall and when i saw the Sunset Riders machine i went apeshit.
That sounds fun!
Lol.
This game was the definition of fun and everything videogames stand for. It was brilliant in its simplicity. You'd pick one character, press buttons and immediately figure out everything you had to do to have fun with it. No stupid tutorials needed. Love it.
Bury me with my money....😂😂
No mention of the slide maneuver! I think this technique (along with the way you swing yourself up onto upper platforms, I suppose) add an element of agility to the challenge of dodging slow-mo bullets with a large hitbox, which distinguishes the game from spaceship/airplane-based shoot-em-ups and provides its unique feel that is a hybrid of platformer, beat-em-up and shoot-em-up.
Shame one of the arcade games best animations with Cormano wasn't included in this port. A certain boss, on the train stage, when Cormano beats him, the guys hat flies off, Cormano catches it midair, tosses his old hat, and keeps the boss's hat for himself.
Oh and I have both SNES and Genesis versions of this, got them while they were still on the cheaper side. Seems like whatever I get cheap, goes up shortly after I buy it (hello Conquest of the Crystal Palace, to be fair, that has started to go up even before I just bought a copy), or goes up after I tend to gloss over and wish I had that certain game. Then when I go to get it, it's expensive. Guess my luck is hot and cold, depends on the game.
I bought this game for $5 at Blockbuster in the '00s because I thought "Sunset Riders" was a funny name.
I got mine for free 😁 Emulators dude
I paid 2€ with box and manual in almost perfect condition like 5 or 6 years ago, yeah i think it was 2014. Very lucky. Together with a mint module of demons crest also for 2€. Best deal i ever got besides my free nintendo 2 door sideboard^^
Paid $30 without box but the clear protector thing..SNES version.
Cool story, bro
Don't cash in yet. I see some listings on eBay for several hundred. Keep that shit in great condition and sell when you retire. Well def be worth a few thousand at least!
One of my favorite arcade games as a kid. Kids today don't know what they're missin'.
"allright ma'am, don't worry about it."
I bought this game for my nephew on his nintendo switch. We both live playing it.
This game is on Switch?😯
How much was it?👍
Home sick from work, holding a snesdrunk film festival in my house
man this game is $100 today and it's still worth it to be honest. as games get more expensive it becomes necessary to curate and this is a great addition to any library and is such a wonderful product of its time. the western setting is not only fun and perfect for such a game, it pays homage to the carnival western themed shooting games of the 40s and 50s when westerns were in peak vogue
love the reviews you do on these older games. Keep up the great work!!
Justin Varga Thanks Justin
I played this arcade game at a small shop when visiting Mexico as a small child
Imagine a collection that includes Sunset Riders for SNES,Genesis and Arcade called Sunset Riders Trinity(A small reference to a westerm movie)
Man this game is that perfect balance of fun and challenge. Chief Scalp 'em was as far as I could get for a long time. I've beaten the game on easy and normal mode now but hard mode still eludes me. I really would have rather not known there's a "super hard mode"
It coming to the switch so far the Japan has it hope for western released.
Update: It now available worldwide
My favourite SNES game, period.
I grew up playing the Mega Drive version of Sunset Riders and loved it. It was only years later as an adult that I learned about all the differences between the Mega Drive and the (much better!) SNES ports.
Love Sunset Riders. Great review. Keep up the awesome work, man.
From the sound of it: this game's OST really loves its Synclavier stabs.
my favorite snes game
OH GOD I NEED TO GET MY SNES BACK OUT.
I play it on the Steam Deck.
Cool video yet again! Awesome review Drunk!
I LOVED Sunset Riders! It was one of my favorite SNES games ever. I would love to see this added to the Virtual Console.
I am confused, whats all this talk about a "virtual console", don't you guys have emulators?
@@Chraan My comment was made seven years ago when the WiiU was a thing. They added a lot of Arcade Games on the WiiU Virtual Console.
We had Sunset Riders & Street Fighter 2 Championship edition arcade games in the lunchroom at my high school. I was late to my English class afterwards soooooo many times lol.
"Bury me...with my... money". Best boss death. 😂
Love that game. Had great times playing it with my brother in our childhood.
Nickel-a-play in Denver has this arcade with all the Booze, Broads, and Bigotry still in tact. God bless that place.
Where was Nickel-a-play?
I can tell you in person homeboy! See you on boxline 8.
😯 wha... alright, you got me, who is this? FBI, CIA, NSA?
Very nicely done review man. I had a friend tell me about this game the other day and somehow I never heard of it before. Watching your review makes me want to play it now! -JT
It is great, but be warned - it’s bloody hard at times!
Found an arcade machine of this and it's awesome. I love how you can walk in a bar and get drunk.
I loved this game in the arcade and one day saw it was on the SNES and snagged it not long after. I think I might have played this more than any other SNES game. I could usually beat it in a few hours in an afternoon I was pretty good at it. I did that about 1000 times. I have not played it since I was a kid. I watched your boss battles here. I think the game had a ground slide where your character would slide across the ground, and I remember using that constantly in boss fights to avoid their attacks and win. I didn't see you use it. Although I could be remembering wrong.
This game is so damn expensive
Lucky I'll be getting it for cheap this Thursday
I been wanting this game for a long time and i finally got my hands on a copy.My local game store had it for $80 and i know the price was steep but this game is so good i had to have it once i seen it in the wild.I would recommend playing it on a emulator before you go and shell out that much on a originial copy but to me it was worth every penny.
I spent many a Saturday night playing sunset riders, turtles in time, and mario kart with friends at sleepovers.
I got this game. Happy to have it in the collection.
This game made me fall in love with arcades in general. It's too good.
Had to get this!! Have never played.
Ahhh...I remember the cafe in my hometown had this game on a arcade machine :D
Thanks to Arcade Archive, you can play the best version.
Great game! My fav coop game on SNES!
I used to this game for hours
This looks Awesome!
Can't believe i have never heard of or seen this game before.
😄👍
Got an emulator so thanks, I'll check it out. Thanks for evermore for pointing me in the right direction and have a great rest of your day
Something great about this game is the two different types of shooting the controls have: shooting while walking, and shooting aiming.
This was my favorite game growing up.
Such a fun game. I'd only ever played it on the SNES until about 2017.
"Alright ma'am, we won't shoot him!"
i appreciate that this video only showcases the pink poncho guy
Still have this game CIB. Amazing game for multiplayer!
One of my favourite classic games, even tho I've never beaten it
One of the first games I played when I got my raspberry pi. It's awesome
My mom had this game as a kid and passed it down to me when I was really young and it was my favorite game ever and it still is even before it was really popular and the hidden jem astedic faded into the darkness but even 10 years later I've still never beat it
This is now part of the Arcade Archives series on PS4 and Switch.
Chief Wigwam has killed me more than every other game put together
Still have the cartridge.
X2
I'm watching in 2019 and I have this on my modded SNES classic
Everytime you say "you're gonna have a bad time" I think of the ski instructor from the South Park episode"Asspen" "If you french fry when you need to pizza, you're gonna have a bad time"-South Park
I loved this game in the arcade.
Damn this channel is good.
Played this all the time as kids. Great game.
This game, International Superstar Soccer Deluxe (along with its many hacks) and Top Gear were HUGE in Brazil.
Sunset riders so many good memories ..
The arcade version is now avalible on the switch (not sure about anywhere else at the moment)
I’m watching this in 2021 and man has the game skyrocketed since this video came out. I actually bought reproduction cart because I just cannot afford these ridiculous prices online. The game is fantastic and should be experienced by anybody who wishes to play it
I came, I saw, I liked, I Subbed !!!!!!!!!!!!!
😎👍🏻
Here we are today and I'm playing the arcade version on my ps4. Here's Johnny!
Konami in the 90s was a master at doing boxart.
Stolas The Great Prince - And a GOD at doing video games.✌
I see this on the Japanese e-shop for the switch today...
And in June 2020, we now have an arcade perfect version on current consoles like PS4 and Switch, in which you can choose between Japanese and Western versions.
I played this game all the time with my friends! The only time we made it to the end (we sucked at it lol) was because of a glitch (?) that gave us infinite lives. I remember my friend pushig all the buttons like crazy and somehow that happened.
This game is hard AF for kids dude. Me and mt brother strugled a lot with it too.
Love this game.
loose carts are upwards of $90 now, everyone labels them "rare" when they aren't, and "vintage" like that's supposed to mean something.
I used to spent lot of money to this game the in the arcade.
Couple of years ago I was lucky enought to get this game to snes for cheap prize. That CIB is the gem of my snes collection.
Cowboy Contra!
SNK SHAFE - Hahah
The Sunset Wars.✌
the music rocks too
I remember buying this game at the discount bin at kb toy store for $20
"Bury me with my money" brought me here lol
My favorite game to rent!!
Saw it CIB at the game store for 200 dollars recently
I feel I should mention Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa for the PS1, it's a spiritual sequel of sorts and it is great to be honest. It deserves to be checked out if you like Sunset Riders.
There is no PS1 version of that game, it is arcade only, and forever will be due to licensing. There's also Mystic Warriors in arcades, which uses the same engine, but oddly runs in super slow motion when all 4 players are onscreen. Instead of cowboys, you control one of 5 ninja warriors, but seems to be a spiritual successor that plays just like Sunset Riders.
Bloodreign1 you're right, not exactly sure why I remembered it on PS1 for some reason. gonna take a look at the mystic warriors arcade, thanks
@Bloodreign1 the reason of Mystic Warriors' slowdown is just that the hardware used for it was put at its limit. Look at this video:
ruclips.net/video/-ClCscV9gA8/видео.html
As explained in the description, it uses an overclock function of the emulator, eliminating the slowdown.
AWESOME GAME!
I wasted so many quarters in this arcade I own the snes version and I loved it so bust it out to play
Out on Switch today
I remember this game in 2000..
I played the hell out of this game in the arcades, i spent a lot of money trying to get gud. I could even get to the final boss with two credits, but i was never able to beat him.
Luckily I got it for the snes, and I etched every enemy, boss and pattern into my brain so I could beat it in hard mode with Billy. Sadly a friend of mine lended my cart and lost it, SOB.
Just for the record: Genesis' version isn't an arcade port. It's just another game with same title, but, different level design, gameplay, bonus stage, etc. Some chars are the same (Cormano, Billy and some enemies/bosses), but, it's a different game.
Nice review, tho.
I can´t seem to find a super famicom version at all from ebay? Is it super rare or something on SFC?
I don't believe Konami made it for either SFC or Mega Drive, for some reason Japan didn't get this one on consoles.
oh ok :D
Arcade Archives recently brought the arcade version to the Nintendo Switch. And I presume it's also available on the other consoles as well. :)
Chief wigum is a boss on here as well as a Character from the Simpsons which is also a Konomi game.
I havent played this game in over 25 years im gonna try and buy it
Well the arcade version is on the Switch now when I last saw it.
*''You got me!''*
Pistol guys don't have as much spread but they DO get more bullets and faster bullets too, so I always play as those dudes.
R GG Not nearly as much. You have to get a gun power up before there are two bullets on screen and even then you get three clusters of shots as opposed to only two. Also their bullets are faster meaning you'll get more shots in from a distance.
R GG What exactly are you talking about? I am referring to the SNES version. Try it yourself: double up the power on any shotgun guy and count the number of bullet clusters on screen. Then do the same with pistol guys. You'll see who has more bullets and who has faster bullets.
This was my game love going to taco cabana just to play
0:16 Red Dead Redemption 2 definitely paid tribute to that little scene. Check out some of their posters for the game if you don't know what I'm talking about
The arcade game was epic.
Having played this on the arcade can and the SNES it's pretty good and looks pretty accurate
It's a bit too difficult for me
Konami was such an awesome developer.
They were at the peak in the 90s. Turtles, Rocket Knight, Castlevania IV/Rondo/SotN, Contra, SNATCHER/POLICENAUTS! Suikoden, Vandal Hearts... Hell even their other licensed games were great like Animaniacs, Batman, Bike Mice, Tiny Toons. Unfortunately they weren't able to successfully transition most of their games into 3D successfully, but they put out some really monumental original 3D games... MGS and Silent Hill. So sad how they fizzled.
