Even dumb criminals know not to involve the police. You threaten it, you create a huge scene, you call the press, but you don't start an investigation into yourself.
Something like this would require either a skilled hacker or an insider. The company best be doing a thorougher audit of the entire online ordering system from app/website to that particular store! I doubt a skilled hacker would bother to do something like this so it is more than likely an insider or local operation involving an employee at that location. If it is a hacker and they in fact did get access to her food stamp card, that is a federal offense with BIG jail time and fines!
Ultimately, the tax payer is left to carry an increased load. The EBT program admin. doesn't care about misuse or theft of assets, they get paid no matter who uses EBT or how it gets used. Stores like HEB could do more to ensure that orders are distributed to the proper person, but in the end it's the self sufficient people that carry the load. When you and I buy groceries, we're paying for the losses that occur every day due to theft.

My saving are usually $15 to $20 on $50 worth of items, just today I bought my 1st steaks in many, many moons and it was $8 marked down from $16, she saved $4 on $1048, no need to shop wisely when others are paying it seems. Co vid hit my small one man business hard and haven't recovered from going backward for the last couple years. I recently was bitten by a dog and got an infected hand that blew up like a balloon, risked my life by not going to see a doctor and the wound drained pus and blood for 4 weeks straight starting 1 1/2 weeks in, every 3 hours the wrapping filled up and started seeping down my fingers and hand, scared my body was going to stop fighting after weeks and I'd die but even more scared of going even more in debt for basic treatment I've lived my better part of my life and this place is getting more messed up and I'm tired of seeing it so I figured so be it, if I die, I die. Couldn't sleep properly from the pain the 1st 3 weeks, couldn't use my hand for 2 months, couldn't touch my thumb to any fingers, couldn't make a fist, 5 months later it's 95% better but still feel tension when making a fist and I still can't touch my thumb to my little finger and barely to the one next to it like before. No help what so ever after decades of being a productive part of society and supporting the broken system, I am way to privileged (aka wrong color) and without dependence to ever get help of any kind but I'm so blessed I still get to support invaders through taxes, rather than investing in ourselves is so great to give them all free food, debit cards, phones, and now medical care so glad the law breakers are getting a free ride while real life-long Americans suffer.
