    Hi Dave the rode microphone sounds more natural but like you said any louder it could get distorted.
    Now the tram microphone sounds very clear to me but sounds a bit artificial as in muffled to much artificial sound a bit more mid and high range lifting up a bit

    I have the tram and Sony ECM 77 handling around that I no longer use. I was going to try those out for vlogging later in the year but now I have heard this Rode I can’t see the point.
    For me the Tram was at the time really good for under clothing if I was doing interviews as it handles tussling a lot better and also a nicer flatter mic so didn’t stand out much at all.
    Like you been a cameraman over 30 years, so have lots of gear hanging around. These newer mins are a lot brighter I think.
    Keep up the good work 👍

      @@WheelieGoodTV thanks for that, is there any way to add padding to the input at all? It’s odd, we use higher end get only to find that the domestic “prosumer” market is a better fit for the job.

      Going through and robbing your work for gear ideas. Hope you don’t mind :)

    Agree. I like them sound out of the Rode as well. Maybe the Tram can be massaged to sound as good/better (think of a Raw file from a nice dslr compared to a nice jpeg from a decent point and shoot), but for plug and play, the Rode wins. Saw an interesting vid from Manning about audio adjustments he does on all his videos, compression, noise reduction, and output adjust, which was really informative. But, that’s still a wee bit more production time, so for a quick vlog I like the Rode.

      The Rode Lavalier and the Rode Lavalier Go are two completely different microphones. The former is a more expensive mic the uses Rode’s proprietary MiCon adapters, whereas the latter is a budget mic that’s supposed to sound like the built-in mics on the Rode Wireless Go (hence the “Go” suffix).

    Great timing on that one Dave. I’m following your recommendations very closely as I am about to embark on a two-week plus Motorcycle ride from Las Vegas to California. I’ll be starting in Connecticut, flying to Vegas to pick up a used motorcycle, 2015 FGR 1300, and then off to ride those beautiful canyons in Southern California. So now I know exactly what microphone I’m going to buy, and I truly wonder which camera you would take with you? Keep in mind of radio reviews, would you take the Insta 364 in GoPro10 on my trip? I’m also bringing my old GoPro session 5. Many thanks for the great inspirational content!

    • @WheelieGoodTV
      @WheelieGoodTV  2 года назад

      I’m so jealous! That sounds like an incredible trip. The more I’ve used the Rode mic since making the review, the more I’m impressed with it. One thing to bare in mind is that it comes with a gold screw collar which is to screw into Senheiser Radio mics. Make sure you unscrew this collar and get rid of it as this will give you a more secure fit into the back of a GoPro. I got caught out with this a couple of times where it hadn’t just made the connection. My cameras of choice for your trip would be exactly what you have chosen. The GoPro 10 and Insta 360 one X2. But I would be bringing two GoPro 10’s because of their unreliability. Have a great trip!

    Hi Dave, I came across your video as I was looking for a solution to the really bad sound I am getting from my Rode Wireless Go 2 which I have set up for motovlogging. I bought an inexpensive lavalier mic connected to my Rode Wireless Go 2 transmitter which I attached inside my helmet almost right where my mouth is. When I am stationary this is fine but once i start riding all I can hear is the wind noise and the sound of the engine, both sounds completely overpower my voice. The sound quality you get from your helmet mounted lavalier mic is super and all the background noise from wind and engine don’t overpower your voice which is crisp and clear. My question to you is what Gain level did you set your Rode receiver to to achieve this and is the Rode Lavalier II the only reason for such crisp sound or is much done during the editing process? I am getting desperate here and even tried putting the transmitter with dead cat inside my helmet but still got the same outcome. Any suggestions would be great and thanks for the great videos you put out! I have learnt a lot! Cheers !

      Hi Justin, I used the lowest gain settings on everything. Even now I use a totally different system (DJI Osmo Action 3 camera + DJI wireless mic) everything is set to the lowest it can go. I remember sometimes even using the system you mention, I would still get some distortion as that mic runs a bit ‘hot’. What your using should still provide good results though. 🤔🙏

    • @WheelieGoodTV
      @WheelieGoodTV  2 года назад

      I remember that vid too. Unfortunately I can’t eloborate as this just sounds great which I was surprised about especially since it’s an omni. I have however tested it in my other helmet and on the RS660 which is much louder and it didn’t perform so good which brings me back to the statement I made last year about using an uni especially on louder bikes. Price is always an indicator of quality in my eyes and the Tram TR50 albeit needing a little tweaking in post is definitely a much more solid mic for handling all noise. For the majority of motovlogging though, the Rode will be just fine. Hope this makes a little more sense.

    While I suspect the Tram mic output can be edited to give you a more finished product, the Rode mic output was better from the standpoint of understanding your commentary. The Rode also allowed one to hear the motorbike engine better. Lastly, the price is hard to beat. Regarding the clipping, I assume further experimentation with your microphone placement, wind protection, and editing will improve that situation. I agree with and support your decision.
