From what I have read, the elite consisted of Baltic Germans who owned the land and rented it out to the peasants (on extremely unfair conditions) and Polish (and seldom Lithuanian) people who may have been the rulers, but had no regional power. The people under the commonwealth spoke whatever language was their mother tongue (Lithuanian, Estonian, Livonian, Polish etc), however, Livonian was not a language with that many speakers even back then. @@sabercat5490 It is not because the native indigenous people of the Caribbean Islands looked like people from India. It is because when Christopher Columbus sailed the Atlantic Ocean in 1492, Spain was trying to find a new trade route westward to achieve the Indies (India, Indonesia and South East Asia nowadays) and they thought Earth was smaller than its actual size so when they arrived at the Antilles, thet didn't realize they were in a completely different landmass but thought they had arrived in the Indies. It was not until very later (Columbus had already passed away by then) that they realized they had "discovered" a completely different continent so Europeans started calling the Americas "West Indies" to distinguish them from the Indies, which were then referred as East Indies to make the difference between the two places more accurate.

    I'm disappointed that Guyana was not listed as a Caribbean Country. We are Caribbean, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat is hosted in Guyana, and we have a STRONG cultural identity with the rest of the Caribbean. Yes, Guyana is located on the coast of the South American continent, but we; Guyanese, always have identified as Caribbean and not so much as South American.

    • @AlistairSonaram
      @AlistairSonaram 5 лет назад +2

      @Fry Szopen, in actually, not because of our geographical location are we South American, Guyana is part of the Anglophone Caribbean and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)! And if you were to do a poll questioning how natives of Guyana would identify themselves, the result would Caribbean. Whereas, Venezuelans, Colombians, Panamanians o Costa Ricans would identify themselves as primarily as South/Latin Americans... Never have I interacted with any of the citizens of all of these countries you would have mentioned, have they identified as Caribbean. So really there is a misunderstand and misdirection of national identity due to geographical location.

He did say the plane landing was scary yet fun. When they were both snorkeling in waist deep water my dad was looking at the sea floor and saw yellow and black swim quickly past his goggles, as he looked around for his friend to tell him what he saw, George was already back on the beach yelling "Snake in the water!" Hahaha "George, what the hell?!?"
