Yeah, bouncer is just protecting the bar from law enforcement. Law says you must check the physical id of everyone who goes in, regardless of how old they look. If the guy looks older than 18, the bouncer only cares that if it's an undercover cop trying to fine him, he wouldn't have a case.
As someone who checks IDs for a club, yeah I’m with the bouncer on this one. The law says we need to check everyone’s physical ID, but unless it’s a slow night or they genuinely look too young I barely glance at it. I just need to make sure they have it in case there’s an issue later.

As someone who's worked as security, we need you to have a physical ID in case of emergency. If we have to call 911 on you, and your phone battery run out with the picture of your ID, you'll still have your physical ID. This goes for every unresponsive person. This is usually a request by the owner of the venue or by production offices. We don't need your age. We need you to be identifyable.

To keep a liquor license, they need to follow rules, patrons must have non expired physical copies of IDs, either a US driver's license, passport, or military/police ID. It isn't about being 21+ but having the acceptable forms of ID. Ive been doing security since I turned 21 its still weird telling older people they cant drink :P

When you turn 18 in Brazil, you have to update your ID, and when I went to do that, they rejected my birth certificate because it was folded and had front and back sides, but that's how it's made! Later, I found out that some people get new ones, and even then they don't accept them...

Just some input.. here our IDs have barcodes that bouncers scan to see if its valid . It also weeds out fake ones as well
