While “Mr. Pipeline” is famously known for his calm demeanor in the tube, Gerry built his early career on cutthroat, aggressive surfing. Gerry is as radical as he is Zen; he transcends categorization. He’s one of the most influential surfers and surfboard shapers of all time, an entrepreneur, a family man, a movie star and a lifelong yogi who brought surfing to new frontiers. His influence on modern surfing is immeasurable, and for the first time, his story is being told in full.

I can’t wait! Gerry was a god when I was a kid. He still is today.
When I saw Endless Summer 2 a few years ago when Gerry and friends would wind surf from one Hawaiian Island to the next I began to understand the concept of Waterman. Mike Doyle was also legendary. Amazing human beings that will continue to inspire new generations.
I feel this! Gerry says “you have to find some peace within you”. I’m 61 Anos. Yes to some a Viejo, but I am sober and I subscribe to Benjamin Franklin’s 13 principles to living life.
Sometimes you must go against the grain and follow what makes a better you. Life is a struggle and finding peace is worth a mental fight.
I know Kelly Slater is rated the best surfer of all time, and credit to his merits. Still my fave is Gerry. Can’t wait to see the film. Ahhooo
for all you surfers out there, go to the mountains, feel the stillness, the peace and learn to appreciate nature as a bigger power to behold. that'll fix any territorial agro in the water

I never knew he was a surfer till maybe 20 years later. I always knew him first as Subotai in Conan.
GOAT. Hands down, at least at Pipeline. And the discoverer of Bali, with Russel. Crazy stuff, but still legendary. Again, GOAT at Pipe.
I'm definitely not a surfer nor have I dabbled in the sport at all. But I remember being a kid some 30 years ago, growing up in Huntington Beach, CA, and always admiring what those guys can do out there on the waves everytime we went to the beach and I'd see them out there riding the waves in bliss. But I can relate, in some way, now, when I'm out biking, especially when I'm out mountain biking, where the Yin and the Yang coalesce into one; into something beautiful and awe-inspiring to behold where words can never truly convey.
Definitely looking forward to this film. Totally rad. 🤘

Awesome! I began surfing in the mid seventies and Lopez was it! I bought a Dwight Dunn shaped Gerry Lopez Lightning Bolt. Hardly anyone out at Trestles back then. Great times. I always liked how Lopez made the hard things look easy... as opposed to how guys back then made the easy things look hard....
I saw this at Telluride Mt. film and it was a full 10!
Peralta brought the pages of Skateboarder Magazine to life for my generation with "Dogtown and Z-Boys". Now it looks like he's doing it again with Lopez and (Pezman era) Surfer Magazine. As kids we all just stared at the photos and wondered.... Now we'll get to sit, and watch, and just listen. Big thanks to all involved. ✌

We had Gerry in Punta Rocas, Peru in 1974 next to Jeff Hackman, Larry Bertleman ...
Unforgettable...
Punta Rocas. I was in Peru in 85 on business. I borrowed a surf board from a Peruvian friend of the person I was working for. I surfed Punta a few times in moderate size waves, Senoritas, and that spot in front of that bar (I forget the name). One day I paddled out to Punta Rocas on a bigger day. Maybe it was getting bigger while I was out there, I'm not sure. Caught some bombs but it felt pretty safe as it breaks (left) into a deep channel. But on my way back in on the Right when I got to the beach the beach break was HUGE and just a big dumping wall. You just couldn't ride it in. All that time I was there (not that I surfed every day - I did have to work) I wasn't afraid until that paddle in.

There were a few that showed the world what style was, Gerry was maybe the best of style, not necessarily the best surfer in all areas of surfing , but yea style wise , kind of untouchable.
