My 92 year old house is being rezoned for a high rise.
I am very interested in building a sensible passive house to live in for the next thirty years. The idea to retire from working and not being a slave to the rising utility expenses is incredibly appealing to me.
I toured Paul's model in Dunrobin on a very cold day in February and was very impressed with the comfortable environment. Fantastic!

All homes should be built to accommodate the elderly and disabled. This will be better for everyone.
Large wide doorways and hallways make using a cane, walker or wheel chair much easier.
Bathrooms or wet rooms need to have flat floors and no shower hump or pan. A flat floor allows for easy access and drains need to provided.
Easy to use lever door and faucet handles are easier for the elderly to grip and open.
Main floors should include a master bedroom, restroom, shower, laundry and wide walk in closet with few steps to enter.
Homes should be designed with aging in place in mind.

@@KJSvitko This is an Excellent point. In particular, we love the idea of getting rid of hallways altogether when we can.
Simple, straight forward design with elderly accommodation in mind.

I would love to see a passive house developed with natural material such as hempcrete or CEB or rammed earth.

I've heard that with two homes in the winter set to same temp, the passive house just
"feels" warmer. Less fluctuations in temp, etc.

I built one using Paul’s methods...it’s the even ambient temperature that gives you that feeling... feet the same temp as your nose. It’s awesome!

New homes should come with solar panels, a rain water collection system and an electric vehicle charger in the garage.
