BOROUGH PARK, BROOKLYN -- A man died in a construction site collapse in Borough Park, Brooklyn, during illegal work. The collapse occurred at 1266 50th St., violating a stop work order. Despite only being allowed to make the site safe, construction continued, resulting in the tragic fatality. Department of Buildings Commissioner Jimmy Oddo highlighted the absence of submitted plans and the presence of a bobcat, emphasizing the violation's severity. The collapse caused the first floor to cave into the basement in a V-shape, trapping and killing the victim. Responders attempted a rescue but pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Investigations revealed no submitted construction plans, with previous complaints lodged against the site. The incident prompted a stop work order, emphasizing the unlawful nature of the construction. Heavy fines and potential criminal charges are anticipated pending a thorough investigation.
