    Monday in Martinsville! Ricky Craven scores his first career victory fighting off a determined Dale Jarrett. He got the lead late when Kevin Harvick and Bobby Hamilton decided to play bumper cars. Hamilton got spun and Harvick got a 1 lap penalty.

    Man there was just something about the 2001-2003 seasons. Perfect combination of veteran and new drivers, Varying personalities. You could actually tell a difference between each manufacturer instead of all of them looking the same. The paint schemes were awesome, you knew which driver was in each car because they didn't change rides/numbers/sponsors each year. You knew the rules because they didn't change major rules every few weeks... And the cars looked and sounded better than they ever did.
    Grandstands were always full, TV ratings skyrocketed. Its crazy, back then I watched every race, every qualifying session, every practice session, every Busch and truck race. Nowadays, I don't even know how the points system works much less all the other rule changes.
    It's crazy how quickly NASCAR destroyed their own popularity. What a shame.

      Travis Eisenhart small teams actually had a chance at winning races during those years. Elliott Sadler at Bristol ( 2001) , Robby Gordon almost won at Sonoma in 2001.

      This sounds exactly like me. I used to watch everything, now I will occasionally, but they've ruined so much that why bother. The drivers seem to be so watered down, too. Back then rain delays and interviews were fun and interesting, now every driver sounds the same, "We had a good car today and I wanna thank my crew and (rattles off 10-15 sponsors)." I can predict what they're gonna say before they get out of the car. Even the finishes are ruined by forcing Credit One Bank in there. It takes all of the air out of a potential exciting finish. I could add a lot more, but you get the point.

      They tried to chase the Big Four(Football, Hockey, Soccer, Baseball) and are losing at it, but they should have never had that goal in the first place. I went to racing because I wanted something alternative to those sports, I wanted to step away from those sports, why would I want elements of those sports in racing?

    I was at school when this race happened, however my grandma taped it for me and as soon as I got home I put the tape in and watched it. I was so happy to see Ricky Craven get his first win. I still have that video tape somewhere in my closet as well as the 2002 Texas race and the 2001 EA Sports 500 that I also recorded.

    I haven't seen this race in YEARS. I remember coming home from school and watching the tape. That brake comparison between Bobby Hamilton and Joe Nemechek is one of the things I remember most from the race.
    You are AWESOME for uploading the good ol' days of NASCAR! Thank you times 642!

    Now, I understand that NASCAR needs to keep order, but I think that was a bogus penalty for Harvick.

    I remember this one cause I was at school and my grandfather recorded it for me and as soon as I got home from school I put the VHS tape in and I couldn't believe what I saw. I was so happy to see Ricky Craven get that first win considering he was Jeff's and Terry's teammate in the late 90's early 2000's

    2001 was a wacky year for poles. Todd Bodine had THREE poles, Jimmy Spencer 2, Stacy Compton swept the Dega poles.
    Yup, this was definitely pre-Ryan Newman

    kurt completely shreds a tire and theres stuff all over the track... Rudd blows an engine... Waltrip spins in front of the leaders and no caution.... these were manly years... i feel NASCAR is like a tween now...

    • @Probowler37
      @Probowler37 8 лет назад +2

      KingCuervo88 Man I couldn't agree more! That's what blows about these finishes of the plate races now. They will throw that yellow flag out even for a simple spin, which if it's a huge crash I can understand it. I mean let them race!

    • @MarkOliveras0215
      @MarkOliveras0215 8 лет назад +1

      +KingCuervo88 Hermie Sadler spun off Turn 2 and no yellow. Crazy to think so much has changed since the old days of NASCAR. If these spin-outs, engine failures and tire shreddings were to happen today, it'd be an instant yellow no matter what

    This race was supposed to be run on my birthday until rain pushed it back to the day after & I had school to go to. I saw the results on ESPN & was shocked to see Craven won. My trust with him was waivering at this point & this kind of boosted my spirits. The next week I got interest in a new driver & my "era" with Craven (Which was 8 months) was over.

    yeah, they did that for a couple years after some people would jump on the roofs after the race and post race inspection showed to roof being too low. It's still not allowed, but they did away with the silly bar.
