Robert James Keeshan will forever be known as Captain Kangaroo and he also hosted another CBS series CBS Storybreak God Bless You Bob Keeshan, R.I.P. Captain Kangaroo
A true purist at heart. Thank the Lord we had Bob Keeshan and Fred Rogers, the world was a better place because of their work. I believe that Bob served in the Marines as well as his sidekick Mr. Green Jeans.
Those were the good ole days. Even though my family was poorer than dirt, Captain Kangaroo in the morning, Cap'n Ernie's Showboat after school, and Saturday Morning Cartoons, shielded us kids from thinking about those problems.
Same here. We at least had a TV set! It was a wonderful time to grow up. I saw all those programs on a B&W set from the early 1950s. Wouldn't trade them for anything.
Why, oh WHY doesn't CBS release these on DVD/BluRay? Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Electric Company are all available... Why not the Captain? These are great, so thank you SO much for sharing them!
Man I about spit out my coffee when Bob Larson popped up on the screen. I grew up in the Peoria area and had the good fortune of working with Bob at WMBD/WYZZ. He's just as great in person as he was on the news.
Solid role model I liked it when Simon in the land of chalk came on I look at the news reporting nowadays I'm going to look at the reporting that they did on Captain kangaroo back then what are drastic change back then they reported real news cared about people
Captain Kangaroo was in the Treasure House from 1955 to 1971. Then they went to the Captain's Place. In a book I read that in 1955,"The twenty-eight year old Captain sweated under the thick age makeup he no longer needs."
He himself was a treasure to several generations of children all over the US. I remember the B&W Treasure House days of watching him on CBS. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet him in person at our local PBS station in Peoria, IL. I also put his program on in the morning and recorded it from the satellite feed. We had him sign the tape while he visited with us in the early 1990s. He was as kind in person as he appeared to be on air.
Unfortunately, no, Suzanne. However, I kept copies of 4 of his programs. The station I worked at repurposed all their 1 inch broadcast tapes. I believe the Captain Kangaroo tape was recored over and then eventually thrown out when they went to a newer format.
Well, the tape was the property of WTVP-TV so I didn't have permission to take it. When they did discard some of the 2 inch and 1 inch tapes I brought them home but later threw them away because we were running low on room in our house. So no, I wasn't really attached to it.
They took his show off the air tho. There was a reason Captain kangaroo was my child hood regardless and taught me alot I am 53 by the way watch you tube and see these old episodes and watch a few Good memories of days gone by
I'm now 56 years old this show , hrpuffin stuff , and sygmond the sea monster are as far as my mind goes I was less than ten years old , I didn't see dancing bear laughed at my dad he did it in our presents then me and siblings laughed at dad.
Absolutely untrue. Bob Keeshan enlisted in the USMC Reserves as soon as he graduated high school in 1945, but he never saw action, as the war was over before he could be sent out. Please research your facts before posting about others.
I don't get it.... Anymore. RUclips has become substandard. As of lately July 19, 2019 it's becoming impossible to get through an entire video without buffering. You get bits & pieces due to the mass throttling campaign. Slowly & eventually your gonna have to pay. Greed is driving the premium access market. Google will loose it all as Facebook Leeds the way.
I hate giving free advertising, but If you're as much of a RUclips junkie as I am, $12 bucks a month is worth it. No interruptions at all, just video. At the end of the videos, there often pop up ads, but the're not interrupting anything.
Thanks for sharing!!
You are so welcome!
Thank You Bob for being my favorite program as a kid. I loved you so much and you gave me a wholesum childhood memory.
I loved this show.i can remember watching this

How fun. Glad you got the chance to work with him. He seems like a genuinely nice guy.
And Mary from Good's! I look ved in Moline and then moved to Peoria in '95 and she was in both markets.
From my childhood memories, the Captain was like a grandfather to me. He was very special to me, especially in my pre-school days.

Dancing bear 🐻 was my favorite.
This was when 48-Hours was a good program not like the tabloid sh*t that's showing now.
Oh captain my captain!

Not true, he was a good man, he enlisted in the Marine Reserve towards the end of the war. He was still Stateside when Japan surrendered.
Led men on the beaches at the battle of Iwo Jima,Navy Cross recipient as well...
NO, THAT WAS JUST A JOKE. ENLISTED, NEVER SAW ACTION.
