can't decide on my favourite detail on this video:
    - A player called joeKing,
    - Shirdel leaving his speedrun settings on to record PS2 Tekken footage,
    - or the insane comeback vs Feng in T5.

The moment that Tekken 7 came up next, I can already guess from all the galaxies that existed from here to yonder that you were going to put Lil Majin VS JDCR.
And who could've blamed ya, lol. It is such a memorable and very epic match.

This is such an interesting series especially for someone who has been super curious about the early Tekken scene. It'd be really interesting seeing someone like Kazuya, T3 Jin/Devil Jin, Paul, or Hwoarang in this too! Or even a character that has been low tier since the very beginning if that's even possible

Man, I love learning more about the old Tekken games, such as Tekken 3, Tag 1 and Tekken 4.
I'm really surprised to find this kind of video, it's so hard and rare to find on RUclips.
Wonderful video, seriously. I hope there will be more videos like that in the future with other characters.

12:32 King actually has *good* matchups in T4, and players who used him in global tournaments?!
You could have fooled me on either count!

Tekken 3's version of King was arguably one of the weakest. There was this obnoxious bug with d+1~N+2 (which was one of his most important pokes prior to T4). The 2nd hit, the N+2 there would whiff for no reason if the d+1 hit. This was fixed for TTT1 (last game where poking with his d+1~N+2 was a viable option).
In T3, his 2,1 string was at its strongest (+14 frames on hit, guaranteed stuff after that), yet he was very weak compared to previous iterations as now throws were made easier to break (all T1 grabs were unbreakable, and in T2 the basic grabs were made breakable but the command ones continued being unbreakable). You can add to that his now extremely weak combo damage, his Giant Swing can now be techrolled for half damage (yes now only 35 damage for a teched GS), etc. His only juices in T3 were his monster frames after 2,1, after a f,f,N+1+2 and after df+1 on a crouching opponent. All three of them yielded guaranteed followups.
TTT1 compounded some of those flaws by giving a fix to d+1~N+2 (TTT1 was the last game where this move was extremely abusable), making uf+1+2 (Capital Punishment) a "mini launcher" (guaranteed d+3+4,4,4, d+3+4,2 or ground throw but not much else) and they took out the frames from 2,1 and df+1 on crouching opponent but they gave him the df+1,2 double mid string in return (still somewhat flawed in that CH df+1 knocked down so the 2 would miss in that case but it was better than nothing).
T4 gave him most of TTT1 Armor King's new moves like CD+1 (as f+1+2), CD+4, b+3, SS+2 and db+4 but most of those were nerfed in some way, along with several nerfs to his own moves like BT 3 or 1+2,1 or d+1~N+2. Most of these punch strings were made now unsafe and/or without pushback on block. As a result he was terrible in T4 due to everything being unsafe, slow, weak combo damage, Giant Swing still techable for pathetic low damage unless you GS them into walls or objects.
As a small compensation (not even close to compensate all the nerfs but it's there anyway) his then new df+3,4 is a natural combo on a crouching opponent.

tekken3, tekken 5, and tekken 7 are like the biggest numbered titles and the titles i had the most hours on. for sure. tekken 5 being most played, tekken 7 not to far behind , and tekken 3 pshh if only i owned that game instead of only playing it a few times a summer during visiting my tekken nerd cousin

These are fantastic, have you considered doing tier lists for each game? I've always wondered about Tekken 4 (and why Lei was considered trash tier)

Personally I'm glad he isn't doing tierlists. It's refreshing to see a new kind of content like what he's putting out here.

11:18 Hasn't King's d/f+2 always been i13? Not that it particularly matters either way as the move was pretty useless in T4 (and early games generally) due to being -10 on block with no extensions.

Excellent info and work, but since t6 triple h and dr king were far better than other king players, including lil majin, and best tekken 7 king is hakaioh from japan; special mention to tanex, ive never seen a king player master wavedash like that in real matches

The video is great, but talking about throw breaks in T2, when all command throws were unbreakable...

    Just realized notation is weird...
Why does mk and tk used 1-4 rather than lp, rp, lk, and rk (or for mk: fp, bp, fk, bk) and then numb pad notation?
Then I realized it wouldn’t actually matter. Soul calibur it makes sense to use numbpad I guess given how little G is used and the 1 letter makes for attacks....
So, I guess tekken and mk would be more streamlined if instead of 1-4 it was a-d with numbers for directions.
    6 236 6 236 6 236 = Mishima walking.

  • @davidparry5310
    @davidparry5310 2 года назад

I don't think King's d+1,2 (or d+1,n,2 in older games) has ever been a natural string - it certainly isn't in T3 or TTT1 - so listing it as a punisher in the very old games is misleading.
