Wow... this is an INCREDIBLY good discussion. I’ve never listened to Clay before, but he’s extremely intelligent and uses great sense in his conversation about politics-sports. Great show!
"My wife's biggest fear is the mob will come for me." Isn't it ironic, we live in an age of nearly-unlimited information, yet we face a problem that plagued some of the most primitive eras of human history.
John Cummings I actually said that with a lady that was cutting my hair today. “As much as we’ve learned about biology and psychology yet the tribal nature of things never changes.”
Freud: "Men clearly do not find it easy to do without satisfaction of this tendency to aggression that is in them; when deprived of satisfaction of it they are ill at ease. There is an advantage, not to be undervalued, in the existence of smaller communities, through which the aggressive instinct can find an outlet in enmity towards those outside the group. It is always possible to unite considerable numbers of men in love towards one another, so long as there are still some remaining as objects for aggressive manifestations. I once interested myself in the peculiar fact that peoples whose territories are adjacent, and are otherwise closely related, are always at feud with and ridiculing each other, as, for instance, the Spaniards and the Portuguese, the North and South Germans, the English and the Scotch, and so on. I gave it the name of' narcissism in respect of minor differences, which does not do much to explain it. One can now see that it is a convenient and relatively harmless form of satisfaction for aggressive tendencies, through which cohesion amongst the members of a group is made easier. The Jewish people, scattered in all directions as they are, have in this way rendered services which deserve recognition to the development of culture in the countries where they settled; but unfortunately not all the massacres of Jews in the Middle Ages sufficed to procure peace and security for their Christian contemporaries. Once the apostle Paul had laid down universal love between all men as the foundation of his Christian community, the inevitable consequence in Christianity was the utmost intolerance towards all who remained outside of it; the Romans, who had not founded their state on love, were not given to lack of religious toleration, although religion was a concern of the state, and the state was permeated through and through with it. Neither was it an unaccountable chance that the dream of a German world-dominion evoked a complementary movement towards anti-semitism; and it is quite intelligible that the attempt to establish a new communistic type of culture in Russia should find psychological support in the persecution of the bourgeois. One only wonders, with some concern, however, how the Soviets will manage when they have exterminated their bourgeois entirely."
I was a fan of Golden State Warriors but I don’t think I will ever watch them again. I didn’t watch last season and I won’t this season either . I’m a proud black Trump supporter and if you disrespect my President, I am done with you . ...Don’t piss off a black woman ... Lol 😂. Actually am a decent logical black woman . I just wish we didn’t bring politics into sports

Great interview guys! Loved this one. We Canadians need our own version of Clay Travis. I'm always frustrated that Canada's biggest market (Toronto) produces too many politicized sports journalists. They all seem to tow the line when it comes to social issues. And are all to happy to advertise their woke credentials.
Travis and Outkick is killing it. His morning show is #1. Website and $99 yearly subscriptions are growing. He gets governors and Trump on the air. Scary to the Dems and ESPN.
I really, really enjoyed listening to that conversation. I am not a sports fan so I hesitated to play this Sunday Special but I'm so glad I did. Great comments and insights. The power of the Red Pill is pretty awesome to behold!
The problem is that sports profiting business (team ownership, player unions, broadcast companies, advertisers, retailers) have tricked gullible people to think that athletes should be everyone's politically correct role models. They are not role models for me or my children Athletes only model athleticism.
I disagree with this. While I get they aren’t people to model your life after, people like Tim Tebow and Bryce Harper are inspirational people. I mean John Cena is basically an actor and he has the highest recording of make a wish foundation fulfilled requests. I totally get that there are many athletes that ruin themselves and aren’t something to aspire to be. On the other hand, we don’t really get too much coverage of all the good athletes do. King James is opening a school for kids in bad situations and all people can talk about is what he said about trump. I guess what I’m saying is that if you really think this, you are missing the most beautiful part of sports. That connection between a fan and an athlete he aspires to be. Wearing his jersey only asking for a bit of attention.
Athletes have been role models to children for as long as Wheaties has been able to print pictures on cereal boxes. They used to represent an ideal for effort and vision that inspired children to give their best. Having said that, things have changed a lot in the last 2 decades. You are wise to discourage your children from seeing today's athletes as inspiration or ideal. Chalk up another point for those who seek to destroy the America we grew up in.
cody dacquel, I see what you are saying... but this broadcast is exposing the extreme attitudes and beliefs NOW that need to be put straight. Your thinking expresses the ideal world. We are in a world gone off the deep end -- at present -- and we all need to commit to getting things back to sane, then seek to build on that.
Another blessing from RUclips. Being British and living in SE Asia, I’d otherwise be very unlikely to have the chance to listen to this guy (Clay Travis, but could probably say the same for Ben Shapiro). Refreshing, sharp and interesting.
In answer to Ben's investment in sports question, I agree with Clay's answer (it was smart) but I was surprised neither of them mentioned the NHL. The NHL is actually GROWING right now while the NBA and NFL are shrinking. Why? No politics. It's pure sport, with top athletes and great superstars who represent the league well. I also truly think the Canadian influence of its players' culture (which is undeniable throughout the league) has a lot to do with it. It's a North American sport with international stars so the focus IS on hockey not country. And look at a guys like P.K. Subban (who happens to be a black Canadian. He plays for Nashville). His "blue line buddies" program brings together police officers with troubled urban kids to have a meal together before a game then they watch the hockey game together then Subban meets with them after every home game. THAT is how you "protest" to influence change. Kappernick should take note!!
WelcomeToJ, the NHL’s growth is steady but it rarely grows as fast as many investors like to believe it is/will. The Hurricanes, Panthers, and Coyotes showcase that very well. Then, we have teams like the Stars, Lightning and Ducks that really can’t survive unless they are winning. Some teams can undergo a rebuild and continue making money, but some franchises just don’t have the market to sell tickets at those times. Just a few years ago, it seemed like every other hockey fan I talked to want to dissolve 4+ teams.
Hey friend, I never refereed to the speed at which the league is growing (whether fast or slow) but that it is, indeed, growing. Team valuations are up (according to Nasdaq reporting) and at least four franchises are valued at over 1 billion. Of course almost any team who is not winning (in most sports I would argue) has a hard time surviving. And of course hockey's "desert teams" are a constant low-market struggle - sometimes relocating to a better market is the solution, and that works! But the league is expanding (i.e. the Golden Knights most recently) and the salary cap is on the rise. As a side note, the NHL also has a decent draft system in that struggling franchises have really good odds of landing young stars who can turn around their franchises and add star power (Buffalo most recently for example).
Thanks for doing this Ben and Clay Listen to both of these guys every weekday. Glad they did something together. Would really like to see this conversation go further and touch on some more issues.

Excellent high energy interview. I swim at a pretty-much all-black swimming pool near where I live and a favorite suit for the little girls now has JUSTICE in huge black letters across the front. Another example of politics infiltrating every get-away I've tried to use this summer. I'm all for justice, but this is clearly just politics. The lesson of the interview, especially the points about the Massoula protests are well worth listening to again. Please DO listen again, not to me, but to this wonderful interview.
