Excellent guide, Jonnyg. For future reference and saving your throttle body actuator and calibration, you can turn the car "on" and not start the engine (press the start button without holding the brake does the trick). Then you can have a friend or use a brick/stick/other contraption to hold down the accelerator pedal in the car. This will actuate the butterfly in the throttle body and you can get full access for cleaning. Just be sure that the pedal is held firmly because the butterfly motor has some serious torque and can do some finger damage pretty easily ;).

I decided to clean mine out of curiosity/boredom. 2013 LS460 with 60k miles, never done previously. It was very easy and exactly how the video explained it. I used the rubber handle of a screwdriver to hold the plate open. I got all the surface buildup off. It wasn't very dirty at all. But I feel good about doing it. Now that I've got new plugs, clean MAF sensor and a bottle of chevron fuel system cleaner behind me, I feel the engine is running as intended.

My 2012 Lexus LS460 just been showing signs of low idle around 500 rpm. I did some research and I’ve decided I should clean the throttle body because everything else is replaced and cleaned so this is the last option I’ll keep you posted on how it goes

My ls idles around 800-900. I thought that was high. Sometimes it idles at 500 where I think it should be. Does yours normally idle at 800?

My brother we always pull the EFI FUSE THERE'S 2 LOCATED IN JUNCTION BOX That holds the internal ABS relay.
After pulling both fuses out the car we push the start button twice WITHOUT starting up the car, then use a brick, stick or another person to push the gas puddle all the way down to the floor and hold it there until done cleaning the throttle body.
Clean it fast ass you don't won't the battery to die on you.
After cleaning replace the fuses and all other components and start the car let it run for 5-10 min.
After that if needed and you have techstream, you can calibrate the throttle body.
It shouldn't need to be calibrate if it's done this way.
The EFI fuses are for the electronic fuel injection.
This will keep gas from dumping into the engine while your cleaning the throttle body.
You'll need to clear all codes that are present when the job is done with a scan tool or techstream 👍

How many miles on the engine since the throttle body was last cleaned? My 2013 has 60k on it and I don't want to do this unless it's really going to make a difference. I understand you did this to make a video. It didn't look dirty enough to affect the performance of the engine under normal driving conditions. Very good video and explanation though.

I have 180k on mine. I have never cleaned it so cannot say if had been done by last owners. Not something you need to do often.

    Thanks for your video.
I have issue that sometimes my throttle closed totally during the driving ( I checked ir with comp diagnostic). And I have no response from accelerator.
Maybe throttle stuck in closed position?
    What is your opinion?
    Thanks.
    Sorry fot my English.

I heard you say to not move the plate too much because you’ll hear clicking and that’s too far, but when you were moving the plate (at around the 14:19 mark)I thought I heard clicks. I’m concerned about attempting it myself - is some clicking okay? Thanks.

Hey. Yes just be gentle with it when you open the fly. Do not rush or force it open hard. Cleaning helps.

What is that hose called that’s connectes to the top of the throttle body?

You talking about the hose that connects to the white cone shaped adapter behind the TB? Says its a fuel vapor feeder hose.

I have shaking engine (also misfire faults on 4 and 5 cylinder) on cold idle, after coolant is getting warmer everything going back to normal. Replaced coils and spark plug with no results.
I had identical problem with previous engine ( I had to replace it) and the only common part for both engines is throttle body. Do you guys think cleaning would be enough or I should take another shot and replace the throttle body?

    • @johnnyglexus5730

Hard to say it could e a sticking throttle body but the misfires i am not sure. I say give it a shot.

    Do the same process

    • @johnnyglexus5730
      @johnnyglexus5730  Год назад

Might help. These cars are notorious for low idle. Just don't over do it. I leave my air control system on all the time and it keeps the idle about 600-700. Any lower and the motor can stumble.

    I have a 2001 Lexus LS-430.
Can not take down the intake boot I'm afraid to force it.
Do I have to remove it from both sides or only the side where attaches to the throttle body?
    I have the code P0174.
    What shall I do?

If you have enough room to reach in and clean it with just one side off than ok. Don't take. much to remove whole intake tube by looks of it. That code is a vacuum leak. Probably wont solve your issue with a cleaning.

@@johnnyglexus5730 Correct: System too lean (Bank 1) for P0171 and System too lean (Bank 2) for P0174. So how do I fix this 'vacuum leak'?

    • @johnnyglexus5730
      @johnnyglexus5730  2 года назад

@@gt-c- A lot of things can be happening. TB cleaning is one place. Check all vacuum hoses possible exhaust leak or bad O2 sensors. If you cannot self diag than have to take it to a good shop.
