Just a quick note on the dark green walls. Back in 2019 my family redecorated our living room and we painted it dark green, we thought it might make the room look smaller but instead it somehow made the room look bigger and grander looking. so if you ever decide to switch things up later on, I think with those floorboards and that rug it could look really good, like a Victorian bohemian jungle library.
yes, not hating or anything, but the baby colors (we call this kind of bright colors like this in Brazil) go really well with white but not so much with the wood and the rug.
I’m renovating a Victorian red brick house in St. Louis and I’m going to use the third floor as my office and library and I’m planning to paint the walls up there dark green. My interior colors are cream, brown, dark green, and some shade red (possibly). I have most of my original 1897 wooden floors, trim, and doors so I’m planning to strip them down and stain them as well because a lot of them are white. I know it’s lead paint so I’m going to use a stripper to remove it, especially from my main staircase.
Yes, if I had a home office, I’d like to make it darker too. A rich velvety color and then use a full-length gilded mirror adjacent to the window to enhance it. I feel like with darker colors, your mind fills in the gap of the corners you can’t see. Unlike white where everything is in full view and no mystery.
When we took the wood paneling off in my living room we found that someone had drawn a huge set of anatomically correct teeth on the drywall above the fireplace 😳
the fact that you can just CUT OUT a bit of wall on order to make the shelves fit in. that would not work on European houses lmao I also have to say, the purple and blue mantelpiece/door/trims are the most ariel thing i've ever seen. you really turned this into such a cozy and unique room!

Ariel, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. After watching you pull up the carpet, a job I'm quite familiar with, having done so in nearly all the rooms on the entire first floor of my house and then laying down flooring, I decided I could not live any longer with the carpet in my office. We have a cat--and old cat--who has digestive problems, if you know what I mean. But, alas, after watching you and grabbing my pliers, I plied up all four corners and discovered flooring. It may not be real wood, but it looks like wood, and it'll be cleaner than what I have. In about a week and a half, I will have a clean floor for the first time since this old bedroom became my office. And I have you to thank.

I, for one, LOVE the floor. I think it looks so good that way, there is just enough of the paint showing to make it look thought out and intentional but also like you just found it that way. Fantastic room!
I just keep coming back to this video. It inspires me one day to buy a house that needs love and to put my mark on it. And those bookshelves are amazing!
I have black walls in my lounge and dining rooms. I feel that far from making the room seem smaller it actually plays with your mental perception of space, distorting where you think the walls are and setting them back in the distance. Not only does it give a feeling of space but it also draws attention to the objects that you place in front of the wall. For instance in my lounge I have an oversized fireplace and in the alcoves on either side I have a long reclaimed wooden tv stand in one and in the other an up cycled tall boy. These pieces of furniture stand out against the wall showing them off to their best advantage. My collection of vases, statuettes, figures and plants also stand out. I’m a big advocate for dark interiors if you haven’t guessed by now 😁. Love what you did with your space and so happy it makes you happy xxx
Looks sooo good!!! The colours are such a bolder choice than I would make, but it inspires me to take chances because it really is so fun and charming!
I love the character you are putting into your home. Your rooms, like characters in a book, are all unique with their own personality. I find it refreshing that you are not reno-ing to the original colors and wood stains. Keeping the doors and mantels but PAINTING them, never would have thought of that and I love it.
I realize this is an old video, I’ve been going through these a second & third time. I love everything you’ve done & I don’t comment on every video but I do have to say in this particular room I’m screaming for you to keep the light fixture! You clean it I’d course & if it isn’t as bright as you want it paint the yellowish areas but please please it’s a BEAUTIFUL light!!!!! Just consider it. I was surprised you didn’t see the beauty I’d it & the historical significance of it…. You are so blessed to have the big things & the little things ( the light) don’t toss it. I would love to have it🥰❤️
I love your use of color, the blended pastels are dreamy and delightful. And the open shelves are so much more airy and delicate than cabinets would be. Putting that cabinet in the old closet space was brilliant.
Just wanted to say thank you! You've shown me that it's ok to decorate your house the way -you- want to! It doesn't matter what magazines, books, websites, professional decorators, etc say...do what makes -you- happy! Now I finally feel confident enough to use a cute french-styled desk mirror as a wall mirror for my small bathroom!
Every generation has defining themes. The silent generation had ww2 and the Great Depression. The baby boomers had the moon landing and the JFK assassination. Not quite sure about Gen X. Millennials have tearing up carpet and linoleum in hopes of finding hard wood.

Another video so soon- we have been blessed!
honestly i'm blessed for having you in my audience, Lydia!
🥺🥰 ❤️
I like that from far away the geode looks like a little frog! Also very cute and fits the vibe of the room I think!
I love the aesthetic you choose for the house. Very inspiring! Greetings from Spain🤗
I am OBSESSED red and blue rug! Where did you get it?
ive been waiting for this reveal for so long!! it seems like such a lovely space and I loveeee the purple and blue accents!
I applaud you for expressing yourself and tastes which are different from every single other person.
I'm obsessed with this series and it can't come out fast enough. Can anyone recommend similar series on other channels?
Stroup mansion. I think the channel name is Kaylah Stroup.
Hannah Lee Duggan (I think that's her last name) also renovates her cabin in the woods, but no books I'm afraid
I LOVE the built in! What an excellent idea! Great reveal! And where did you get the wing chair? Such a beautiful colour..
Lol millennials have crippling debt, living through two “once-in-a-lifetime” recessions, and the inability to imagine ever owning a house
@@mlynn998 that too. But also surprise hardwood floors.
@@mlynn998 well, they ll inherit their parents' house eventually.
Covid. That’s what Gen X have. It’s ruining the present AND the future
not to girlboss, gaslight, gatekeep this video - but this (and this series) is so empowering?? not that what you are doing is easy, but you present it in such a way that it makes me not only encouraged to make my space my own but also feel like I can do it ! love the series and am so happy that you are creating the home of your dreams
