I'm SO glad YT suggested you channel! I've been sewing for about thirty years, but am self-taught....can I just say, I learned so much just from this tutorial! I started out making costumes, but have started sewing my own dresses. I'm right at the section in the video where you sewed along either side of the skirt slit and OMG that is SO much easier than how I've been doing it! I'm a firm believer that we should never stop learning and can always learn from other seamstresses. I just subbed and look forward to watching and learning even more. Thanks so much for this! I have this pattern and as soon as I find the fabric I want to use, I'm definitely coming back to this for a guide. You rock!
You have just blessed my heart with this comment. Thank you so much for sharing your feedback. I am with you 100% about how we should always continue learning from each other. When I want to learn anything and find a good tutorial that walks me through the steps, I'm SO HAPPY. So, to hear your excitement makes me feel so good that I can provide value to our sewing community. Have fun sewing your dress when you find the fabric.
Oh what a blessing!! I am getting married in July and was planning to sew a simple maxi dress. This was the design And look that I wanted. I needed this today!!!
Ooohhh, Audrea! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Wow! Talk about timing! I'm so glad this video will help you get that dress made. Have fun sewing and many blessings to you as you get married.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your energy Anita! I'm an intermediate sewer and LOVE to follow along with you. Just bought a serger and I must admit I'm a little intimidated by it but I'm sure practice makes perfect -- or at least lessens my fear! Thanks for being wonderful you!!
This is one of the best sewalong videos I have ever seen, thank you Anita! Love how you sewed in real time with the close ups. Excellent tips and explanations too. It looks beautiful on you. I have this pattern and gauze fabric to try it. How do you tell the right & wrong side of gauze fabric?
Wow, thank you, Tamara! I'm so glad you enjoyed the sew along. With bubble gauze, I find that the texture is raised more on the right side. With regular gauze, I think it's the same on both sides (I think).
Thanks for the detailed tutorial! It's great that this patern is available in digital form also , a great bonus for us your international friends 😊 thanks for being such a great teacher! I have learnt a lot from you! Getting from Greece
Beautiful dress it looks good on you. Keep making those gorgeous outfit. Dress it up or Dress it down. There are alot of people in this world that could use a clothing consultant.
Thank you for this video. I am still a newbie with sewing, 2yrs now off and on, and I have recently started watching sew alongs for tips and tricks to doing some of these techniques. I love how you pin the sleeve cap in before pulling your basting strings to ease fabric in. I have only learned to pull and adjust the ease before trying to place the sleeve in, your way looks so much easier and makes more sense. Also, I love seeing how you created your slits on the skirt, basting together first, folding and finishing the edges, then removing the basting stitches. I tried one skirt that had a slit and the pattern did not say to do ot this way. Your way looks easier. I have learned over time to learn different techniques and see how others do them. The patterns tend to tell us to do it a more difficult way or leaves it to your imagination! Thank you, definitely will watch more of your sew alongs.
You're very welcome, Tonya. Yes, we learn different ways of sewing the garments along the way and find techniques that work for us.Glad to see you searching and learning different techniques.
I am so glad I found your channel. I’ve been looking for step by step tutorials for specific patterns. They are hard to come by most draft their own pattern ( which I am no way ready for) and or whiz right through the sewing process. Your tutorial was so detailed and the pacing is just right. Please please do more pattern specific tutorials so I can buy the pattern and sew along with you. I really want to make dresses. Thank you.
My goodness you look stunning in that yellow. I’m totally jealous! I love yellow, yellow does not love me 😆 That was a really good sew along. Nice easy dress with a couple of slightly more difficult techniques. Lovely!
Ms. Anita, I always enjoy watching your videos. I've been sewing for over 20 years and I still learn something from you. I made a tunic and it called for elastic at the waist as you did in the video. I see what I did wrong! Thank you for the video. 😁
I love this dress and shoes. You are working the outfit. ordinarily yellow is not my favorite color, but I have changed my mind. The dress looks great. I love the belt also.
Love your sew alongs but I would like to see the process of cutting too and learn how to make some alterations when it comes to non standard body sizes. Many thanks Anita
Hello Ms Anita, my name is Kevin McGee, my sister is Kimberly (McGee) Bryant, my mother told me about your RUclips channel. Looks great! Congrats! Just saying Hi✋🏾
Anita, I'm so happy that I found you on RUclips. I love your gentle style as you handle your fabric and guide us alone with your project. I do have a question. Is there a way to sharpen a seam ripper or do they simply get tossed away and replaced? Also, I was disappointed that I didn't get to see your method and instructions for the elastic waistband that you created a casing for. My searching tonight had been about that very thing. Thanks again and I look forward to watching your channel.
Hi Gerrie! I'm so happy to hear that you're enjoying the channel. There may be a way to sharpen seams rippers but I've never done that. I purchase tiny seam rippers in bulk and throw them out when they become dull.
Hi, Anita! I'm getting ready to start cutting out my pattern. I bought some bubble gauze. I've washed and dryed it, so should I iron it before cutting it out? Thank you, Kelly
Oh, Kelly, I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. I would steam it rather than press it to preserve the texture. I only press the seams with the tip of the iron.
I am SO in love with this dress. SUPER cute 😍!! I have a problem trying to distinguish the front from the back side of this type of fabric. I would normally mark on it with my water soluble marker but I'm always having to guess since some of the fabrics does not come on the bolts with wrong sides facing out. Is there an easy way to tell the right from wrong side when it looks the same?
Hi Rhonda! When I can't determine which is the right side, I take a pick. Then I label the pieces after I cut them. I usually label within the seam allowance with can "X."
Hi Anita, I just have to ask you a question...I noticed you are using a gravity feed steam iron and not the Rowenta perfect steam. I just love your channel and I've learned so much from you and thank you so much for all the wonderful teaching you do. It's been several years since I bought the Rowenta steam iron mainly because I saw you using it and just knew it had to be an amazing iron if you were using it. ...it has been a great iron for me but when I saw you using the gravity feed iron I just had to ask you about it and wanted to ask you why you are not using the Rowenta iron...So far my Rowenta has been working great. You know I'm going to want to get a gravity feed iron now that you are using one...LOL..I hope you don't mind me asking you about this. I think you are one of the most accomplished sewist on You Tube and hope you will be so gracious to let me know about your iron choices...Sorry for writing such a long letter here and again, thank you so much for being the shining light that you are.
Hi Cathleen! Oh my heart is just broken over my Rowenta Steam Station. I love that iron more than any other I've tried. The only reason I'm not using it is because I waited too long to remove the tube to clean the calcification. I kept forgetting to clean it and the knob got stuck. I tried removing it with pliers one too many times and messed up the knob. So I can no longer remove it. The iron is the absolute best and it was user error. Unfortunately they don't sell the same model I had, so I decided to try a gravity feed iron. The new iron is working fine but I don't like that the handle gets hot. The burst of steam on the Rowenta Steam Station was the best. Use your Rowenta for as long as it lasts. I had that iron for 5 years and it served me well. I looked everywhere online to find another one. I even contacted the company for a replacement part. Nothing. Your support and trust in my choices are very encouraging to me, Cathleen.
@@AnitabyDesign Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your Rowenta. I had no idea that I need to clean that little calcification tube more often. My gosh I am going to clean that tube tonight for sure. Why are you moving back and forth between the regular presser foot and the even feed foot?
