So good to see you are back with tutorial’s!!! Please do more. I enjoy watching them and learning. I’m an advanced sewer, but always love learning the basics. Love how you show step by step and don’t skimp!!! Thank you ☺️
Thank you Ms. Anita for the sealing I really enjoyed this. I really miss your sewalongs, and to be able to see them again is just wonderful. Please bring back your sewalongs they have really been missed.
I learned a few new techniques like invisible stitching the collar and that cool way to sew a curved hem with a gather. I also have been wasting my time all these years doing the hems with a a fold and a fold but now I can press a fold and then tuck the fabric inside to that fold. Genius! Thanks Anita!
You have the best instructional video in RUclips. I love watching all your tutorials. Ive been searching all over youtube for a tutorial for Vogue 1783. Unfortunately i cannot find anyone. I hope one day you will do a sew along❤
I’m not going to be making this dress, but I used to sew, and took classes in high school as well as training from my dear mother. It is so soothing to watch you sewing and ironing because I understand and remember the construction techniques. Thank you.❤
This was excellent thank you. Wish I watched before making this last week. It turned out lovely but watching you and picking up some very very useful tips I think it could have been better! Thank you ❤ I appreciate you sharing your knowledge-I will be making this again as it’s a lovely dress
Your videos are wonderful, glad to see you more active again! Your videos were one of the main reasons why I got a Soprano, so it's bittersweet to see you move on to a Chorus 🥲
Love it! I made it in the turquoise linen! I always have fabric shorten on Pattern pieces if I don't block fuse interfacing BEFORE I cut them out! It has made a very helpful improvement!
This video was great! I was able to learn something new. I ventured out on this one, adding buttonholes. They were easier than I thought. The only problem I had was the armholes are bit large, I prefer a pattern with smaller armholes. It looks like yours are longer than mine were. The dress did come out a little larger than I expected. I am going to add the sleeve cuffs to give the armholes a little more definition. Thanks for the step by step directions and I like your directions for the collar band. I made another band, since mine was too short. It was ok, as I had enough fabric left. Thanks again!
You're very welcome. I'm so glad you found the tutorial helpful. Congratulations on finishing your dress. Yes, mine was larger than I like too. I plan to make it again in a smaller size.
I'm starting this dress today for my nephews graduation ceremony next weekend. I've followed along on a few videos of yours and truly appreciate the time and energy you spend to give clear, concise instructions. Truly, THANK YOU!
I have this pattern and do plan to make the dress. I have a soft pastel stripe linen blend I plan to use. Thank you for all the tips you have included in your sew along.
Your channel is new to me but caught my eye because I just finished this dress yesterday. It looks like you chose a size and fabric that gave you much more ease. I used an Oxford cotton shirt fabric from my stash and find that even sizing up in the hips that the pockets gap open when I sit. I’m used to Vogue and Butterick patterns and it seems to me this McCalls is cut too straight. I’m 5’4”, 120 with 39” hip and graded out to medium and the next make will be at least 2” wider. Also a softer hand in the fabric will probably help. Hope my experience helps someone else contemplating this pattern.
I have missed you too! So happy when I saw you had posted a new video 😊. You’re my favourite go to for sewing videos because you go into more detail and take the time to show us exactly how to do every component of the garment. This is a lovely dress and the colour suits you, and I have noticed that on plain fabric it is easier to see the stitching details. It frustrates me when the garment is being made in very colourful and patterned fabric - it’s hard to see the stitching. Looking forward to the next one 🥰
I'm so happy to hear that you appreciate all the details I share in the sew alongs. I know my videos are longer than the norm, but I'm always thinking about beginners when I'm recording. So, thank you for your feedback. 💕
@AnitabyDesign Dear Anita, you are absolutely correct. My first sew after a 30- hiatus was the circle skirt you did some years ago. You were a life saver for me. I had forgotten so much, and of course, I was painfully slow. I love that you slow down and stitch carefully and intentionally around tricky bits. Some people race along and leave you scratching your head!
Glad your video came across my feed, bought this pattern off Etsy and can’t hardly wait to make it, your video inspires me. Great sewing skills, thanks
Very lovely dress & great presentation!! I am so glad to see you making videos again! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I will see you in the next one! Tx😊❤
Anita, I would love to take your course, but you say it’s for beginners. I’m wondering if it will help me on my journey. I sure I will learn something, but I have been sewing for awhile, self taught. I have watched you & specific others in the sewing community, I just don’t know where I fit.😊
@@Arleathia Hi Arleathia! There are lots of people in the sewing course who are not new beginners. Some are there for a refresher, and others felt they needed to learn all over again. I can't really say you need the course since I don't know how much you already know. It is a very detailed, slow paced course because I assume the students don't have any experience. You can check out the course page and click on the course syllabus to see exactly what skills I'm teaching. There are also lots of FAQ to help you decide if the course is for you. One think to keep in mind also: We do not use commercial patterns because they go out of print eventually and I didn't want to risk my students not having access to patterns used in the videos. We design our own basic patterns to fit our body measurements. All that information is on the course page. learntosew.anitabydesign.com/courses/learn-to-sew
Thank you for such precise and understandable instructions. The video always clearly shows your hands and the machine so we can see exactly what you are doing. I have learned so many helpful techniques from you and love the way your garments always have that tailored appearance. Keep teaching us!
Hello Anita, my first time watching you do a sew along. I do like your calm method of sewing and have picked up a couple of tips already. Thank you. I will be sure to binge watch a few more and look forward to seeing your other video offerings. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I love how you explain things. I made a muslin based on the finished garment measurements however, it was a little too tight so I will have to move up a size on the final garment. Also, I agree that the pockets are too low, and will need to raise them. Other than what I mentioned it turned out very nice. I’m so glad I did the muslin 😃. I hope you do another sew along.
I'm so glad you made a muslin too. It sounds like you read the blog post. 🤗 I will definitely be doing another sew along. Stay tuned. Have fun making your dress with the fashion fabric. And thank you for being here. 💕
Great sew along Anita you certainly show us it in full details Love this dress and I’m going to make it and follow your instructions once I’m allowed to use my broken ankle again Thankyou you look amazing in your dress ❤️😘
I have purchased this pattern. I hope I will look as lovely in my dress as you do in yours. Of course, i shall.be following along. I have gorgeous soft pure cotton pique in an aqua turquoise, for this one. I love your dress, so useful.
@AnitabyDesign Thank you, I am excited! I see this dress has a single back yoke. My mum always insisted on a double one, even if it was a plain cotton, because she said the entire garment hangs off those shoulder seams. What are your views on this?
@@sallyadams3981 I love a double yoke. It looks so much better and does strengthen the garment in that area. I think it's a great idea to always sew a double yoke.
Thank you so much Anita - always wanted to know why my band/hem showed raw edge - I was trimming both band and dress bit. Your little square cutting and trimming only band - GENIUS!!!
Thank you! This is very inspirational. Can’t wait to start sewing again. I agree with you on the splits on the sides. Will be viewing your other videos. 😊
Just beautiful! I bought some fabric yesterday and I'm hoping to sew some new items for myself this Summer when I have some free time. Thanks for this tutorial, Anita!

Just love watching and listening to you. You make me feel like I can sew anything And I enjoy your emails and when you address me by my name it makes it feel so much personal and appreciated Sue
I used a lightweight, woven interfacing by Pellon. Heads up about this fabric. It relaxes with heat. I sewed a muslin with cotton bedsheets and the fit was just right. But my linen dress came out larger than the muslin, probably due to all the pressing. I learned from another sewist that the fabric does relax with heat. She told me to put my dress in the dryer for 15 minutes at a time until it shrinks to the size I want (then to never dry it again). I will be trying that because the dress is a bit too large for me.
I think each store sources their own fabrics. I used to think all the stores got the same fabrics. But I keep hearing this same comment from people about their local stores. 😢
