Now with almost free streaming of music, Sadly most (atleast a larger percentage) of the revenue generated from the music streaming goes to the label and artists have to depend on sale of merchandise and performing in concerts to fill the gap caused by loss of income. This was back when people bought the physical albums instead of paying a nominal fee(or nothing at all) to the streaming services to stream music. Not to mention, he used to tens(or even hundreds) of thousands of audience to every show he did and as you mentioned he was way more popular. Artists these days earn pennies compared to artists before internet and streaming services. Sale of physical albums used to bring larger revenue to studio, record label and the artist as well. Now with almost free streaming of music, Sadly most (atleast a larger percentage) of the revenue generated from the music streaming goes to the label and artists have to depend on sale of merchandise and performing in concerts to fill the gap caused by loss of income.
