- Bad Endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world/city/etc, something had to happen that, at best, creates a bitter sweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win after all your struggles. Sure, Game Overs CAN be scary too, but more often than not, all you'll get when you run out of lives is a simple "Game Over" message, possibly with the option to try again. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

If horror games have taught me anything, it's that a little kindness goes a long way. Freeing the crow in this game, and freeing the wolf caught in a bear-trap in Resident Evil 4, they come back to help you out.

19:32 Apparently, according to the director, both Bobby and Danny achieved immortality by stopping time (aka stopping clock tower from its flow). Danny tried to overcome this weakness by cladding himself in that ugly cocoon-like shell, while his real body develops inside to become perfect. The cocoon is later burnt by Jennifer and Danny casts it off and returns in the sequel as another scissorman. At this point, Danny reached unlimited immortality and he wasn't bound to the clock tower like his brother Bobby was. With clock being set in motion again, Bobby lost his immortality and couldn't survive anymore due to his sickness and stuff.

So was this hinted at anywhere in game, or only revealed in interviews/the sequel/one of those Ultimania-esque books about games that are always released only in Japan? Because that to me speaks of a gut retroactively trying to make a work more 'complex' and hence 'deeper'.

Sounds like a nice crossover/interquel thing (I think it would be called an interquel because it would be a prequel to the Splatterhouse series and a sequel to this game). It would be nice to see things from both Rick and Jennifer's veiwpoint, maybe from a 3rd person POV detailing things like the demons from the Splatterhouse games and enemies from this one teaming up or being related somehow, or something like that. In addition to tragedies that would be more than a coincidence, and when and how they met, etc.

7:12 You can still get a good ending if you get thrown in the jail with Simon Barrows, but you need to acquire the green key from the west wing library before triggering the poisoned beverage event.

Connor Gamer Just to add some more details: It's impossible to get absolute best ending if you want to trigger Simon Barrows event, because you need to witness Laura die in the bath and Ann get thrown through the window in West Wing, because that's the only way you can spawn Lantern, which is required to obtain Copper Key (Green Key), so basically the best ending you can get in this path is B ending (since you still get to see Lotte get killed in the cave and you won't spawn Mary with a shotgun).

31:40 - I think she committed suicide. It was mentioned in Clock Tower 2 that after the events of this game. Jennifer required a massive amount of counseling to cope with the events of Barrow Mansion, she also had suicidal tenancies.
So yeah, she could have been stalked to the orphanage and finished off by Bobby, I guess. But the suicide sounds more likely.

You don't know that Mary is evil in that ending, so it's likely she came home and you not knowing any better just run straight up to her and get stabbed, like in the other endings.
The game doesn't spell it out yet as to avoid spoiling too much for the player as that ending is super easy to get and super early in the game.
Outta Psych Although it is explained that Dan has psychic powers, which is supposed to explain why some of the supernatural things in the game happen, like a hand going through the mirror to strangle you, It also explains why Bobby can teleport, like he is inside one room, you leave him, and is already in the next, so Dan could have teleported someone or something at her, I personally think that Suicide would be more fitting for the next game, but it is very possible that it could have been murder.
At least in ending H Bobby probably died when the now driver-less car crashed...

I see a few issues with Ending H. First you're going to tell me that Jennifer somehow doesn't see Bobby in the backseat when she gets into the car and it sure was nice of Bobby to give Jennifer enough time to get in and out of the car three times, start it on the third time, then leave the house, and lastly go for a little cruise before he decided to kill her. Bobby be like: "I COULD just kill her now but I this fresh breeze feels so good I'll do it a minute..."
The problem with this ending anyways is that Bobby can't leave the clock tower, because that's the cost he had to pay for being immortal - he's bound to the tower. The outrageous part is, Bobby is presumed to have survived this while he should have died instead.
I'm just assuming he was waiting for her to let her guard down, and didn't survive for very long away from the tower

I first saw this video when I was 9. It stuck with me, clearly, because I've returned to watch it again! What a game, and great documentation/commentary.
I imagine he wasn't that big when he was born, but rapidly grew in size afterwards. But if he didn't... well, serves Mary right.
I can only imagine the pain. Maybe that's what made Mary go mad.
Fun fact, it is entirely possible to get to the car after seeing no deaths, and if you get in the car and leave after seeing nobody die, you get the car driving off and then it goes to the main menu. No text, no graphics. Jennifer just books it and survives.
This game actually looks awesome- I don't think I could play it though, no matter how easy the controls are to get used to, trying to run from Bobby with point-and-click controls (and Jennifers casual dawdle) would give me a million heart attacks XDXD Horror doesn't scare me but PANIC CHASE MODE does XDXD

Worked at Menards (4am to 8am so dark) and watched this a while ago, a week later large garden shears went on sale. I was watching my back a lot that week.

Hifumi Kono, the game's director, confirmed that Mary was indeed directly involved in her death during that time, although the exact cause was unknown."
It really frustrates me when the difference between endings is such a small thing. Like: Not checking out the suit of armor to see she died. So, logically, because you didnt check the suit of armor she just magically survived? She just survives because you didnt check some random armor. I wish there was more logic behind endings like this, like more than one action affecting that. Because, honestly, its kinda irritating.

It'd make more sense if you took too long THEN you'd find her dead in the suit of armor. A lot of horror games of this kind have cheap bad endings that the game punishes you for being curious. (Rememer Misao?) (Until Dawn thats what I was thinking of)

Ryoma Hoshi I know this probably makes no sense, but maybe observing the armor did kill her? There’s the possibility she played dead, got stuffed in the armor, and left when everyone was looking for Jen. By pushing her armor over she actually died from all the wounds she probably had. Again, that probably makes less sense then having no explanation, but I had that idea and thought I’d share it.

Whoisthisgit, are you planning to play more Clock Tower games in future Creepy Bad Endings? I think that Clock Tower 2 (Released as Clock Tower in U.S.) and Clock Tower Ghost Head (released as Clock Tower 2: The Struggle Within) have bad endings.
Even the good endings are bad endings on Clock Tower 2, the voice acting is hilariously atrocious, "Open the door and show me the way Ngh Haa Eh Shh"... like reading a recipe to someone who cannot cook!

I just wanna say thank you for introducing me to my favorite horror game. I played the fan translation years ago and eagerly anticipated the first international release. The Rewind version makes Bobby’s appearances even more random and it was such a tense experience.
I would love if they made a remaster of this game so we could easily get it world wide or just a rerelease at least

P.S. I watched this when I was like 8 and I saw hallucinations of a red eyed guy with scissors at night every time I opened and closed that bedroom door. I couldn't sleep for 5 days.
From the developper's interview, in the ending G, Mary followed Jennifer to the orphenage and killed her without being seeing by anyone. Kinda creepy, Jennifer manage to escape to go back at his previous "home" whi she will thought than she safe but it isn't the case.

I think it's because the sheer was too heavy for Jennifer to carry, Jenny is not as strong as Bobby for sure. And there would be change that Bobby will reliate if Jenyy try something. The same applies to why Jenny do not get the shotgun from Mary.
I don't think those shears were that heavy, Jennifer can overpower Bobby even if he tries to attack her with them. She can fairly easily move those shears aside, then knock Bobby down. Jennifer seems like a really competent fighter in her games rather, especially when you factor in that Danny in the sequel went on a rampage and killed several policemen very easily.
Bobby is demonic so he's got an iron grip.
Besides in real cases when people try to take the weapon away from some maniac they usually die

Ending G was probably suicide. she left her 3 friends to die in the barrows mansion and she couldn't live with herself, so she took her own life.
Not only the self-blame, but probably severe paranoia as well. Not just the normal kind, but the "demons are real, but nobody would believe me me, and I need to hide, but there's nowhere that's safe enough."
It's impossible to find fault with her wanting out.
You don't know Mary is against you in that ending so it's likely that she could just kill you without any problem as you still trust her.
It's not revealed to the player yet because that ending is super early in the game and super easy to get, to avoid spoiling it.

Excuse me whoisthisgit, I have a suggestion for your Creepy Bad Endings series. You see, I couldn't help but realize that you only talked about the endings in the first Clock Tower game. Well, I think you should talk about the endings in the other games (Clock Tower for the PlayStation 1, Clock Tower 2: The Struggle Within, Clocktower 3, etc.) Of course you don't have to do this. Anyways, I was surprised that there was no ending for getting all the other best ending requirements but not saving the crow, and that Jennifer seemed to know to use the switches in a few endings where she never was told to by Lotte.
Here's a thought if I was Jennifer I would of used the car to escape. And then come back with reinforcements like police officers. I young girl like that actually nobody should try and take that on single handily.

I watched this once, on my phone, and on a rewatch, I've found that the game undercuts its fear with its good endings, or rather, how some of the text doesn't line up with the actions, and much more overtly, how the characters most of the time react to things by...casually walking.
"I'M BEING CHASED!" (casual walk, with chaser also casually walking)
"BEING CHASED AGAIN!" (casual walk)
It's like the running animation should trigger, but doesn't. Or how about some of the endings.
"Oh I just barely survived, saw my friend die in front of me at the last minute, saw their killer plunge to their death...Imma just stroll over here and look out this balcony!"
