- Today I am demonstrating How to Tie Dye a beautiful 8 point golden mandala tapestry. As always this is a step by step tie dye tutorial video for beginners where we cover the entire process including the folding, tying, and drawing our outline on the tapestry, applying the dye to the tapestry, and then finally the reveal of our new 8 point golden mandala tie dye tapestry. You’re welcome😊. I’ve been trying to find different ways to incorporate power Berry in liquid dyes but it’s just so dark. I think it’s definitely a ice dye or hwi favorite though.

Hi and thank you so much!😊 Although I have never personally tried it...I do think that ironing the folds would help. The material would feel thinner and a little easier to work with. That’s a really great question and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone try it.

Wow!!! I never would have thought to put those colors together, but they look amazing! Do you do the cold water rinse before revealing? I always hear to do that before going to warm, then untying and going to the dawn wash. I didn't know if that caused more bleeding?
Thank you! I wasn’t sure how the colors would look together but I was pretty pleased with the results. I always start with cold to rinse out the soda ash and then hot to remove excess dye before revealing.😊💜
The Dawn dish soap bath is amazing! It really helps to get rid of all excess dye in the white. Best thing ever😊

Very pretty. Riah what size tapestry do you suggest for a first timmer like myself?
Thank you my friend! I would say that it really doesn’t matter the size as far as it being your first time. The only real difference would be the money you spend on something. So if you’re practicing maybe you can get 100% cotton sheets from even a thrift store or something like that for really cheap. But if you have to purchase something and it’s for a first time project kind of thing I would say the cheaper the better as far as money is concerned. I hope this helps 😊💜. To add to this for a more specific answer the smallest tapestries I use are 30” x 45”. That’s a good size for “smallest” I believe 💞
Would these colors turn brown without the white space? I love the way this turned out.
I haven’t gotten them close enough yet but I really don’t think they would. The power berry is dark enough that you wouldn’t notice and brown in it and the amber waves is already kind of a brown gold. But like I said I haven’t gotten them close enough yet but I’ll have to try it! Thank you for the question!
do you use the blue dawn or does it matter? When you mix dye do you have to mix it with urea or can you use just water?
I use blue dawn when there’s a lot of white in it. It helps draw out all of the dye so that when you wash it, the white doesn’t get muddied up by any other colors. You can mix it up with just water but urea is added for preserving the dye longer in bottles and also it keeps the dye moist after you dye something so that the fabric has enough time to bond with the dye ☺️ I hope this helps! ❤️❤️❤️
