1 Hour Tie dye Tapestry - Wig Wag Part II - H.W.I. Method
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 сен 2024
- Today I am demonstrating step by step how to Tie Dye a wig wag tapestry using the H.W.I (hot water irrigation) method. When using the H.W.I. method there is no batch time needed for the dye to set into the fabric, which makes it a favorite among tie dyers. In this step by step tie dye tutorial video we cover the entire process including the folding, drawing, and rubber banding of our wig wag design on the tapestry, the dye placement and use of the pump sprayer for our h.w.i., and then finally the reveal of our new tie dye wig wag tapestry. I hope you enjoy my tie dye tutorial video and as always...Happy Tie Dyeing!

Oops: I have changed over from painting to quilting (art quilting). I make small to large art quilts (abstract designs). Your tapestries are amazing; I can see using your tapestries in my quilts! Wow, I'm coming up with a lot of very cool ideas. I know, doesn't quilting require cutting up fabric & reassembling? Yes, but in the case of one of your large tapestries, I would do minimal cutting, and then recombining (sewing) for a shattered or kaleidescape look, and/or adding in other fabrics. I'm going to watch all of your vids. I could do the dying process myself, but I've developed serious allergies (I would definitely use all protective gear, but being anywhere near the dyes in their raw form may cause me serious medical issues). I do discharge dyeing with dark fabrics (Shibori) without trouble as I'm not handling dyes (I get amazing results). Anyway, I believe I could make beyond beautiful art quilts with your tapestries. Onto viewing your vids. You probably will be hearing from me via FB. Keep doing what you do; outstanding work with beautiful results. Lindsay, Sacramento, California.
Thank you so much Lindsay and I think that would be super cool! I would love to see one of my tapestries made into a quilt! I look forward to hearing from you😊💙

NICE !!! :)).
Thank you!😊💙
Is that a typo in the beginning (1cup soda ash/2gal water) or do you use half the soda ash for the presoak with HWI?
Nope that’s actually what I use for all my projects. It actually is a half cup per gallon but I double it because I soak a lot of bigger items like tapestry’s. Plus you can keep reusing it until it becomes a yellowish color with an odor which is for quite a while. Hope this helps😊
Again I am blown away! I’m struggling with liquid dye. The colors aren’t bright…more pastel. Whether I use ice or HWI. Do I mix with urea or sodium algimate? Small batches? Thinking of using resist/gutta. TY
Make sure you are soaking the items in soda ash! Thats the key to bright beautiful colors 😊
WOW! It turned out so cool! I have so many questions because our weather is warming up and this is something I have to take outside. Did you enjoy the process? What’s in the hand spray bottle, why not just go straight into the pump sprayer? Is it just hot water or a SA mixture? How hot was the water? When you used the shower nozzle was that part of the irrigation or were you just rinsing? This is why I miss you talking... I love your new colors you mentioned. Sweet pea does get swallowed by darker colors, but it’s a really pretty color. Completely off topic... what is the thick water recipe? I know I’ve watched you talk about it before. I got the sodium alginate and now I don’t know what to do with it. I want to try and make white stripes. Love the tapestry! ❤️🌈
Hi! Yes it was fun, especially if you have some time to use. The hand spray bottle is 160 degree water. I do that first so that the pump sprayer doesnt send all of my dye flying because it has some pressure to it. Yes it is just hot water because i had already soaked the tapestry before tying and I sprinkle soda ash right on top before spraying. Hot water is 150 to 160 degrees. The shower head was for rinsing. And as for the thick water, i have a video called Riahs Tips and Tricks that explains it all! Sorry about the way the comment reads, I was trying to make sure I addressed everything lol. I hope this helps!!!
@@RiahsTieDye Got it! I knew I watched you explain it. I wasn’t sure which video. Thanks for explaining all that!!!! 😁❤️🌈
@@BelladonnaDyesCo absolutely my friend!😊💜
Can you make a dress with this design?🤗
Hi and thank you for a your question. Do you mean a video for one or one to sell? Sorry for the confusion😊
@@RiahsTieDye My apologies, I meant to say the same design in a video on a dress or T- shirt. Those colors you chose are beautiful. 👍
Well thank you! I definitely plan to. I love this wig wag design so I’m going to experiment with it a lot 😊
@@RiahsTieDye Thank you ❤
Nice wig wag! Loving your videos. Just subscribed! Gotta couple tips, comments and compliments!
Tip #1: for your wigwag die placement, if you mix your dye powder w/ soda ash powder, you'll get a much sprinklier dye to place, and be able to create much more precise lines (holding your spoon w/ one hand, and tapping it with the other to gently release the powder). It will help to create better color separation. Also, pump that sprayer really well, and start it further away to keep it from blowing and mixing powders.
Comment #1 & Compliment: I started watching you to improve my Mandalas. I LOVE watching your progression on them. However, your pronunciation of that word bothers me. It may just be an region dialect thing, but as my ex ran a yoga studio, I've learned to pronounce the word as 'MON de luh (see: www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/mandala) - take that with a grain of salt. I'm sure the world is mixed on pronunciation of that word. Still, I love your videos and your man DOLL uhs. Haha! :)
You're great! Looking forward to watching many more of your videos.
Ooo... one question! Where do you get your music?
Hi and thank you for your suggestions, comments, and compliments. I truly appreciate all three! I will definitely try the soda ash and dye and spoon technique. I can see how that would make a difference as far as the dye coming off from the spoon. The pump sprayer is definitely new to me so I’m still learning with that and I’m a little disappointed the one I bought doesn’t have a mist option hence the spray bottle but I will definitely your suggestion with that as well. As far as the mandala pronunciation I have heard it both ways but I guess I just have always said it the way I say it and you’re honestly the first person to ever bring to my attention that the other pronunciation is the actual way so thank you for that. This truly was a wonderful comment and I’m so glad you reached out to me. Thank you! As far as the music I use the RUclips audio library for all my music. It’s free and you don’t have to worry about copyright issues. Hope this helps and have a wonderful day😊💜
@@RiahsTieDye I use that exact same 2 gal sprayer from Walmart (recognize the spray head) and also use the V-spray (or H-spray). I've done tons of HWI w/ it and it I think it works great. I heat my water to about 170° or 180° so that it's still 140-160 by the time it passes through the hose, and mists before hitting the shirt. Thanks for the info about the RUclips Music Library! Didn't even know it existed! Good luck to you, and keep up the great work!
Oh, and FWIW, I mix my dyes between 3:1 Soda Ash to Dye Powder or even 6:1. Saves LOTS of dye powder and colors still come out perfectly vibrant!
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for all the amazing info!!! I can’t wait to try it this stuff. Good luck to you too my friend and thanks again for reaching out to me!😊💜
