What a massive day! I have a similar bike and can't handle sitting on it for more than 3 hours, admire your effort! I love how authentic and raw your footage is, a clear insight of Egypt. It's been very helpful preparing myself for my trip to Egypt in three weeks, I know where to get some great 🍕
Lol yeah it was great to finally lay down. Although to be honest I was ready to sleep on the side of the road, I didn't even care 😆If the police hadn't been escorting me the entire I way I probably would have found a corner to sleep in for a while

🤣God man you have no idea how pissed I was. Calling hotel after hotel, driving to different locations wearing all my hot, sweaty ass jackets and gear, exhausted and sore. As if it wasn't frustrating enough as it was, then I had the cops following me around pestering me asking me what I was going to do, hell if I know, I'm trying to figure that out! I knew they just wanted to be done with me too but damn, I didn't want them following me around either! After several hours of failing to find accommodation I had to accept defeat and THEN begin the journey towards Beni fuckin Suef, by this time it was already dark so the roads were hard to see, full of ruts and potholes and weird ridges (construction happening) which caused my tires to wobble around on the road in between these crevices like the wheel was going to go spinning off, also my headlights suck so I could barely see and was being blinded by other vehicles headlights. Checkpoint after checkpoint, escort exchanges happening every 20 f-in minutes, and it's not like I just rolled up to the next escort and we kept moving, nah. It was a new officer coming up to me and asking the same questions I'd already been asked a dozen times, waiting for the new escort to arrive (like, they KNEW I was coming before because the police would radio ahead, WHY weren't they already ready and waiting for me, if I was forced to have the escort?!), many times the wait was 10-15 minutes before the new escort would arrive, me just sitting on my bike chain smoking and cursing the police in my head 😅On and on it went. My bike died because I ran out of gas (so stressed in Minya I forgot to fill it up before heading towards Beni Suef, and it was pretty empty from the desert road from Luxor earlier in the day), thankfully there was enough juice to restart it and make it to a nearby gas station, but I was so done. Which is why I barely recorded any of it. Lol, it was a hell of a day. I can laugh about it now, but at the time I just wanted to sleep in the dirt and cry, fuck all the hotels I didn't even care. I probably would have too if I wasn't being followed around by the police. I slept outside in Vietnam once, but just because my overnight bus arrived way earlier than expected and I was hungover 😆

I'm pretty proud I made the trip across Egypt! In total I traveled more than 3,310km (2,057 miles) across the country and it was an INCREDIBLE experience! I definitely want to make more trips like this in the future

@@niccoliina78 Oh that's awesome! Yes Egypt is great in the winters, the summers are unbearably hot but I still prefer the hot summers to the extremely cold winters where I am from (MN in the US). That would be great to spend some of the year here as you are married to an Egyptian. Do you visit Egypt pretty often then since he is from here and his family and relatives are here (I'm assuming)?
@@Gventures We come once a year together n then he usually comes one more time alone when his kids have summer holiday to spend some time with them 🥰 We both are now in our 40’s n divorced from before lol so he has two teenagers with his ex in Cairo and I have my half Bengali girl age 15 😃 (I was travelling to Bangladesh n Dhaka 7 times before so I love big cities with moore ppl, different culture, amazing food n shopping n all that 😃) So far I’ve only visited Hurghada, Cairo, Giza, Alexandria and Sharm last new year but I must say I love Cairo is my fave place for some reason 😄🩷

Yes, I have been planning to make a video about that for quite some time now, I have had several people ask me to do that! I am by no means good at speaking Arabic and very much a beginner (with a very small vocabulary), but I do know basic words and phrases and I think I will try to make a video about that soon. I am compiling a list but I'm always open to more suggestions in case I forget to include something.
Lol no worries, I learned how to drive in Cairo (where I live now) last year and just drove all the way south from Cairo to the bottom of Egypt near the border with Sudan, and am on my way back to Cairo now. They are crazy drivers but I am relatively careful 😅Thank you 🙏
Certainly, it was a difficult day to handle. With all what you been doing in Egypt, the most fascinating thing that indeed attracted my attention is the way you interact with Egyptians with an amazing attitude, patience, respect and gratitude. Such a professional and well-mannered person you are with an outstanding sense of humor. Driving in Egypt is definitely not an easy task; however, you certainly showed how can you handle driving smoothly and efficiently. Good thing that you're riding with a helmet.. Interestingly, I haven't come across a single biker in Egypt wearing a helmet. Another great video that deserves 👋👋👋👋.
Ahahaha. I actually don't wear a helmet when riding around Cairo 😆🤫 I just wear it for long distance rides, road trips like this one when I am traveling over 3,000km 😅I actually have seen a fair amount of people wearing helmets here in Cairo, though you are right, the majority are not 😆 It's too hot in the summer 😅

That's tough to say, because I suppose it depends on how many days you have in Egypt. It does make sense to fly south and then just make your way back north though, I know many people do that.

Minya is not that big of a city and so I guess with all the publicity of the president being there many people came and so all the rooms were filled in all of the hotels. Pretty crazy

For my "safety." It's something they do to foreigners in Egypt that are traveling between cities on their own (I mean in their own vehicle. If you take a bus you won't be escorted). It's unnecessary and annoying, but it is what it is.

No trust me he was trying to ask for my motorbike registration card. When they don't know the name or word for something they sometimes just make up stuff, I noticed. But he was asking for my motorbike registration card 😅

While there aren't many tourist attractions in the immediate area, you can visit the Monastery of Anba Shenouda in Sohag itself. For a historical excursion, head to the nearby municipality of Al Balyana to explore the impressive Abydos Temple.
In Hungary, the police only stops you for bad driving. My car has only been stopped 3 times in 20 years for the following reasons: document check, lamp check. closed route. Only three times in 20 years!
Oh, they escorted me across the entire country! It's a weird rule that Egypt has for foreigners crossing the country on their own - they give them a police escort (whether you like it or not! 😆) They say it is for your safety. I don't think it's necessary
You’re an American citizen in Egypt! I don’t see why you’d get annoyed by the escorting, they are doing their job for ur sécurité or else this could lead to a diplomatic incident 😅
The cat breed is called Egyptian Mau it can be recognized by there’s an M shape on her forehead and some times there’s like a scarab beetle shape on her head like the one in the video

I'm confused by your comment because you say "I wonder if you haven't been treated badly by telling them you're American" and then say "some people treated me badly because they assume I am one." But I don't think I have been treated in any certain way because I am American, other than getting excessive police escorts (but that is also partly just be because I am a foreigner AND a woman). Most people are very friendly to me, but I am also very friendly as well and typically don't have problems with people anywhere I travel in the world. On occasion I might run into some ignorant human who acts rudely when they find out I am American, but I couldn't care less and ignore them. I don't think I should be judged because of my nationality and what my government does, just as I do not judge others because of their nationality or what their government does. If someone judges a person because of what citizenship they hold, I think they are very simple and narrow minded and probably don't want anything to do with them anyway.
How many police check points are there 😅 The strong presence of police gives wrong impression, really exaggerated, most of the time only crimes could happen there are scaming and pickpocketing. Forgive them, their culture is different, in Egypt police escort is considered a privilege and hospitality, police does it for major Egyptian officials, they don't know that here in the developed world it is taken as indication of insecurity raising adrenalin in ordinary citizens blood.
Since you are an American, you should know that Egypt is a touristic country, and if any thing bad would happen to you, it will be big problem for the government and would affect Egypt's reputation. that's why the policemen are so concerned about you. and they might be responsible for your safety. You may next time get like a letter from the ministry of Tourism to show just in the check-points and they would not interrupt your time. Honestly what you are doing is unbelievable.
Honestly, what I am doing is not that unusual, and plenty of people crossing the country in their own vehicles have complained about this, I wasn't the first person to do this and I won't be the last. I know people from Germany that have been living in Alexandria for 20 years, and they were escorted when they drove their car only a few hours south to a different city. I know the police are just doing their job, and the repercussions IF something bad were to happen to anyone, but it doesn't change the fact that it's ridiculous, overboard, time-consuming, attention-drawing, and completely negates the action of going on a solo trip. There should be a paper you can sign that states you refuse the police escort, and then should anything bad happen, it's not the fault of the police, the government or Egypt in general. Being followed around by a bunch of police babysitters is not what anyone wants, people traveling in their own vehicle like me, nor the police. It's a waste of resources.
I once lost my hotel room in Aden when the Yemeni president was in town. That was a lonnnnng day of travel looking for an available room. I sypathize with your difficulties.

I actually don't wear a helmet when riding around Cairo 😆🤫 I just wear it for long distance rides, road trips like this one when I am traveling over 3,000km 😅I actually have seen a fair amount of people wearing helmets here in Cairo, though you are right, the majority are not 😆 It's too hot in the summer 😅

That's tough to say, because I suppose it depends on how many days you have in Egypt. It does make sense to fly south and then just make your way back north though, I know many people do that.

Lol I guess he was asking for my license for my motorbike but didn't know the word in English so he made up a word for it "tiktik" 😆 The reason there were no hotels available because the president was in town is because there were many people there to see the president, as well as media outlets and perhaps politicians as well, and they filled up the entire city. Minya is not that big of a city and so I guess with all the publicity of the president being there many people came and so all the rooms were filled in all of the hotels. Pretty crazy

Why did the police have to escort you?
For my "safety." It's something they do to foreigners in Egypt that are traveling between cities on their own (I mean in their own vehicle. If you take a bus you won't be escorted). It's unnecessary and annoying, but it is what it is.

Every time I visit Egypt, I love returning to Sohag to see family and enjoy the peaceful countryside. The people there are incredibly genuine and welcoming. While there aren't many tourist attractions in the immediate area, you can visit the Monastery of Anba Shenouda in Sohag itself. For a historical excursion, head to the nearby municipality of Al Balyana to explore the impressive Abydos Temple.
In Hungary, the police only stops you for bad driving. My car has only been stopped 3 times in 20 years for the following reasons: document check, lamp check. closed route. Only three times in 20 years!
Oh, they escorted me across the entire country! It's a weird rule that Egypt has for foreigners crossing the country on their own - they give them a police escort (whether you like it or not! 😆) They say it is for your safety. I don't think it's necessary

But I don't think I have been treated in any certain way because I am American, other than getting excessive police escorts (but that is also partly just be because I am a foreigner AND a woman). Most people are very friendly to me, but I am also very friendly as well and typically don't have problems with people anywhere I travel in the world. On occasion I might run into some ignorant human who acts rudely when they find out I am American, but I couldn't care less and ignore them. I don't think I should be judged because of my nationality and what my government does, just as I do not judge others because of their nationality or what their government does. If someone judges a person because of what citizenship they hold, I think they are very simple and narrow minded and probably don't want anything to do with them anyway.

The strong presence of police gives wrong impression, really exaggerated, most of the time only crimes could happen there are scaming and pickpocketing.
Forgive them, their culture is different, in Egypt police escort is considered a privilege and hospitality, police does it for major Egyptian officials, they don't know that here in the developed world it is taken as indication of insecurity raising adrenalin in ordinary citizens blood.
Since you are an American, you should know that Egypt is a touristic country, and if any thing bad would happen to you, it will be big problem for the government and would affect Egypt's reputation. that's why the policemen are so concerned about you. and they might be responsible for your safety. You may next time get like a letter from the ministry of Tourism to show just in the check-points and they would not interrupt your time. Honestly what you are doing is unbelievable.
Honestly, what I am doing is not that unusual, and plenty of people crossing the country in their own vehicles have complained about this, I wasn't the first person to do this and I won't be the last. I know people from Germany that have been living in Alexandria for 20 years, and they were escorted when they drove their car only a few hours south to a different city. I know the police are just doing their job, and the repercussions IF something bad were to happen to anyone, but it doesn't change the fact that it's ridiculous, overboard, time-consuming, attention-drawing, and completely negates the action of going on a solo trip. There should be a paper you can sign that states you refuse the police escort, and then should anything bad happen, it's not the fault of the police, the government or Egypt in general. Being followed around by a bunch of police babysitters is not what anyone wants, people traveling in their own vehicle like me, nor the police. It's a waste of resources.
I once lost my hotel room in Aden when the Yemeni president was in town. That was a lonnnnng day of travel looking for an available room. I sypathize with your difficulties.
