Wait.. people actually complain about frequent pausing? That’s exactly what I love about this channel! As a non-diver, Gus and Woody’s insight helps me understand what makes these videos so “bananas”!
I come here for the reactions and pauses. The information you two share, which is invaluable to the general public and to divers like me, is what keep me coming back. Please keep it up.
Hey guys! That second video you reacted to was from a friend of mine. He was diving in the Detour Island Passage in Lake Huron. That boat that went over was a Great Lakes freighter! He’s lucky he lived.
OMG!!! I am in tears laughing. One of the close calls with the boat and hanging anchor comes crashing thru the divers and Gus is like, "Excuse me, coming thru!" LOL. Funny shit
It's so easy for newer divers to look at something like the wreck scenario and think its no big deal. I especially see this over-confidence in divers with a little bit of experience. When you think you've got skills and there's nothing that could go wrong because you know it all. I see it all the time with newly minted Divemasters that haven't actually experienced a real problem on a dive before. The super important thing that Gus and Woody talk about are the risks of diving outside of your training. There are specific risks associated with specific forms of diving and until you are taught about or experience them, you simply don't know of the possibilities. Its true that an untrained diver can enter a wreck and come out alive, as seen in this video, but in those scenarios, the margin for error becomes extremely small and the consequences become extremely serious. Doing something like this and NOT having a catastrophe occur only furthers the misunderstanding of the dangers, and makes divers even more over-confident to push the limits again. Its a negative feedback loop and a deadly cycle. Don't be that diver. Get training, be humble, and be safe. Nothing in there is worth dying over. Source: SSI & PADI Instructor Thanks for the videos. Love your work.
I was an open water diver with a boyfriend dive partner, and we had been in and founded dive clubs in FL. On a large military-ship wreck dive, my partner started to enter the open doorway of the top portion (bridge?) of the wreck, and I motioned "no", because we both knew: 1) that penetrating a wreck required wreck certification, 2) he didn't have a reel line or other equipment required, 3) it wasn't part of the plan, and 4) he knew I wasn't going to follow, so he was leaving me alone on a large wreck at about 90 feet. He went in and disappeared. I waited and watched for bubbles. Eventually I went and found another couple on the other side of the large ship, but there wasn't anything we could do but wait and see if he showed up. (Going in after him would have been a double mistake.) I stayed with the couple, did our safety stops, got on the boat, and within a few minutes my partner got on the boat. I gave him a piece of my mind, and he was unphased. He explained he'd come out some other doorway on the other side. What upset me more was that our very-safety-conscious dive club and members didn't do much to back me up in reprimanding him for deserting a partner and for uncertified wreck penetration.
@S M Shortly after that. The writing was on the wall. But he did teach me to Zen dive, which was how to dive with minimal weights, using a combination of gear adjustments, breathing control, and mind control. The goal was a relaxed, controlled dive with 0 to 4 lbs. (warm s. FL, wearing just a skin or bathing suit, no neoprene)
I'm not even finished watching, but I have to comment lol. Congrats Woody on your victory (even though I like how you pause and explain as it happens.) Instead of a gold play button, you deserve a gold pause button🤣🤣
Woody is more desperate to get things out than my sister when her water broke. LoL Hilarious and informative. That's what keeps us coming back for more!
Woody can't love you more. You are so adorable, so intelligent and so much fun...Gus you are perfection with your expressions and comments. Best channel EVER...
I've been having a rough morning and in a crabby mood, but your first two mins have me smiling and i already feel a laugh building up inside :) thank you guys for your videos.. they always help :)
16:30 Rule of thumb for the anchor situation: you should drop 4-6x the depth. It's the weight of the chain that holds the boat in place and not the just the anchor. The chain had almost no slack on it. Also before going off of the boat they should 1. Drop anchor. 2. pull on the anchor (turn the engine in opposite direction of the drop point) and feel the anchor chain tighten. Turn the engine off and drift for some time allowing the boat to come to equilibrium with wind before feeling secure to come off the boat.
The duality here is great. Gus being more "getting business done" guy and woody being "lets have fun and free flow" guy. Then Gus actually does the fun and free flow stuff and actually has a good time!
CONGRATULATIONS WOODY ! Love when you guys pause to explain makes us non divers understand your world underwater and the SAFTEY ! Thank you guys BEST RUclips channel !
May be a year late but Woody deserves the like for his effort. Personally i do not mind the pauses, in fact i love the format and personality of your videos. Keep up the great content Woody and Gus
I for one APPRECIATE woody's explanations! I have only been scuba diving once. Unfortunately, I nearly died... VERY similar story to the one you guys posted (from Rescue 911). HOWEVER, I am older now (was 18 when the accident happened 38 now) and am looking to become certified. I have learned SO MUCH from this channel!! I don't know who these complainers are but I will point out you can FREELY skip around videos in youtube.. JUST SAYIN...
I'm fucking crying at Woody holding in his reaction. It's amazing!! You guys are so funny and insightful and I love it. Just found this channel from Mr Ballen and I'm hooked! Had to give the thumb for the 3 minutes.
Never stop being yourself and doing what is cool or interesting to you. You guys have amazing chemistry, great sense of humor, and a lot of knowledge. I dont even dive and probably never will, but Im obsessed with your videos. Thank you
Hey dive talk, in the beginning of watching your channel I didn't necessarily like that woody paused it all the time only due to him asking questions that were answered 30seconds later in the video lmao. But the more I watch the more I appreciate it. And am almost ashamed to say I was bothered by it a little bit. Woody please keep pausing and doing your thing. That's what makes the channel your channel, and you're such a great guy. If anyone has a problem with it they can just either skip through or not watch😉 because it's definitely some of my favorite parts of the videos now not gonna lie. Thank you guys for always going out of your way to provide awesome videos and teaching everyone. I believe it's beyond important to do so! Be safe guys!
I like these compilations because you can learn so much about a bunch of different things in one video. Way to go Woody! It's always fun to test your limits!
I laughed about as much as Gus did. The friendship between you two is extremely similar to one of my best friends. From teenagers to adults I always came up with the crazy ideas whereas my friend is chill and is like "that's a terrible idea. No" I mean we eventually do it, but yeah lol.
Nothing has made me want to learn how to dive as much as watching your vids. Also, I enjoy the pausing. It shows a comprehensive line of thought. As new information happens, you pause and formulate a response or plan. New info afterwards either reinforces a line of thought or branches into a new thought process. If you just watch and then react, you're only reacting to one process as opposed to the countless potential problems or processes. I enjoy how thorough you guys are in these vids. And thanks for keeping it real instead of being melodramatic or exaggerating like other channels.
I've seen the original video of the diver underneath the ship. I believe he commented saying that he actually knew that this would happen because he was diving in some sort of shipping corridor, a canal or river. He had the chain tied up for this purpose, thrill seeking. Super sketch Also, Woody's always raising his coffee cup like that. Whatcha got in there, Woody? Irish coffee? 😆 Good job on 3 min btw
Woody was loosing his freaking mind over there. I honestly didn't think he was going to make it. Good job man.. Keep up the good work. You guys make me aspire to get more training and be the safest diver I can.
Great job on the 3 min woody! Idk why people complain about woody pausing and commenting. That's one of the best things about the show! Love ya guys keep up the awesome work 🤙🏻
1. I paused before Woody could get started lol. But I would think that penetration diving should be treated the same as cave diving, enclosed area, limited to no light, silt buildup, tight spaces and no easy escape if something goes wrong. 2. The next challenge I feel should be a blind challenge, one where Gus doesn't know what's coming up and reacts alongside Woody. I know that Gus checks for safety reasons to make sure nothing is too graphic or would violate TOS so maybe having someone else preview them and make sure they are fine like a long time viewer that you have positive feedback with or have another dive channel recommend some.
I love when you guys pause the video because I love to hear what experts have to say about certain things. I mean, what do people expect it’s called a REACTION VIDEO.
Great job with the 3 minutes, Woody. What a demonstration of willpower! Thanks for the great video, guys. It made me chuckle, especially "these guys all chose seahorse"
I literally feel like I’m a part of you guys now I’ve been watching your channel for so long. As a diver myself I truly look up to you guys and I can’t wait to see you guys hit 100k
Nice shirt Gus, I love how you guys in the community take care of each other and represent oneanother. Love you guys, stay safe and thanks for the content!
6 seconds in Woody is already "pausing" to let Gus know he's going to try to go 3 min without pausing ! I appreciate the pausing as I'm one of your non divers but I've learned a lot and want to start. I was so excited to learn you're in Atlanta and teach because I'm stationed in Valdosta GA right now! But I'll be leaving in October for a new base in Texas so it wasn't ment to be ):
Glad to see you two young men have a funny sense of humor. Never dived in my life & prolly won’t, but y’alls videos let me learn about underwater exploration and see some pretty cool things. Keep up the good stuff guys. Cheers from N Alabama
You guys are awesome. People that are criticizing you for giving your opinion and facts are on a high horse. They know what you're doing here they just have the biggest ego that they don't want to hear anybody say anything about somebody else because they want to be the one to do it. I'm not into big water and I'm scared of things in the water but I've never seen the ocean and I'm 42 years old. One day I want to see the ocean but I am super terrified after watching your videos LOL but I'm not going to let that take me away from seeing the ocean. You guys are my favorite RUclipsrs I've been binge watching you for days. Keep up the good work thank you
I share this everywhere lol! Posted on instagram story few days ago! Watching it on tv in my studio during work …love u two and thank you for the amazing content
You guys are so organic and natural together! Each show keeps getting better. I'll be happy to say I was your subscriber in the beginning when u hit 1 million!
I don't mind Woody stopping video's. He's got a lot of useful stuff to say. I've been diving for over forty years and I know much of what you say, but it's good to reinforce the fundamentals of diving. It's like a pro baseball player shagging flyballs. They know how to play the field, but the great ones constantly reinforce the fundamentals of the sport. Thanks and keep up great and useful work!!
Yeay, Woody! You did it! I appreciate when you guys explain "why" ... I always want to know the "why" of things and you explain the reasons just as I wonder "why" ... Thanks for the video! - Muddypaw 🐾
I wanted to tell you guys that you do a great job of explaining things, and i like the frequent stop and talk points. I have never went diving, and I have learned so much from you both. My 23 year old daughter watches too. We love your personalities, and your love for the water. No complaints from us, so keep up the great work you two are doing. Thank you.
Oh that was so hard for Woody. He would have found it easier to hold his breath for 3 minutes than his tongue. Nice work! Thumbs up and a tip of the hat to you, sir.
I just found you guys the other day and I've been binging your vids nonstop since. I have a Severe fear of the dark and a (frankly inexplicable seeing as I love swimming and developed it out of the random blue) pretty bad phobia of deep water, so I doubt diving will ever be for me, let Alone cave diving But hearing two experts talk about their passion not only in detail but in a very educational way that even laypeople can understand, and with the chemistry and banter you two have going on, is both entertaining and actually super relaxing in its own weird way. I think in one videos you guys yourselves put it that cave diving isn't inherently safe, but can be done safely, and hearing exactly how takes the edge off and lets me enjoy footage of these spectacular underground spaces without the anxiety I used to feel cheers to woody for managing to contain himself for 3 whole minutes! definitely earned that like!!
Definitely like the video playing longer. Not to say I don’t appreciate Woodys input because I do. As a current non-diver with plans to start, the info is both helpful and educational, which is the main reasons I watch your channel. BUT, it is nice to watch the video play without being stopped repeatedly, without breaking up the flow. I feel like letting it play while talking over it is much better as the video can be viewed WHILE being educated about what’s going on. Just my personal opinion. Either way I’m a big fan of the channel. Knowledge from people with high levels of experience is one of the most valuable, n often underrated gifts one can receive. Those of us learning are very grateful for it and just speaking for myself… When I do start diving, I will be more comfortable and ultimately safer because of you. So thank you, sincerely… also.. Woody, sometimes less is more… pausing the pausing 😏👍🏻😁. Y’all are awesome.
Omg I love you Woody! We are so alike!!! I’m so proud of you for lasting that long! I don’t know if I could have! I seriously love how realistic you 2 banter back and fourth! This is what I come to RUclips to see! I will always leave a like and comment after watching you two! Thank you!
I found yalls channel like 5 days ago and I haven't been able to stop watching! You guys are amazing I've literally already learned so much from you guys and you never make it boring to learn either! I can't wait to see what else you guys put out
This would have been a fantastic April fools idea, the 5 minute woody reaction challenge. But you pause when you have something to say and just stare directly into the camera in silence for the remaining time
Good job, Woody! That red headgear hat almost could not contain you. Forget the reaction, I got a kick out of the facial expressions and anticipation. But seriously, as a SSI AIT myself, I really like watching your vids as I tend to have the same or similar reactions. It's a confirmation for me and it gives me a sense of camaraderie, even though we don't know each other (your still a part of my extended dive family). . I'd love to come work with you guys sometime, but for now I'm just OC and I know you guys do mostly CC. Oh well, keep up the good work and I'll keep on watching.
I love when woody stops the video. I know nothing about diving and what captured my attention when I started watching their videos was woody's insight into diving. every time he stops the video, he explains what goes through his mind and he raises a lot of question that I would've never thought about.
I have only been watching you guys for a couple of days and you guys have already sparked my interest for cave diving, I’m 15 I still have a couple of year until I can cave dive but you guys have made me want to not wait until I turn 18 because of how much fun and beauty are in those caves.
I found you guys a couple weeks ago and today I've been binging your videos. This one had me rolling watching Woodys phone countdown. I am absolutely petrified of caves and open water as an adult but absolutely fascinated by it!!
I just wanted to say, I recently found your channel and I'm hooked! I have absolutely no dive knowledge, well I guess I have a little now thanks to yourselves. But really you guys do such a good job at explaining what's going on, that I can enjoy the videos you react to ect on a whole different level. I actually appreciate you stopping the videos because I would miss so much otherwise.
Love your channel ! It's very interesting:) I'm certain that I will never actually dive so it's something I would never see or understand without your videos, soooooooo Ty MUCH!!
Man as a Dutch diver who primarily dives in the Netherlands whenever I hear "Visibility is pretty bad" and it's like 5m+ I go "Y'all don't know how good you have it" 😆💜 To those curious, average visibility here is around 3m.
Now I can dive into diving conversations like I actually know what I'm talking about🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣 Thanks woody and Gus,I didnt even know they have so many types of diving till I found this channel. I always thought diving was just scuba diving, like every diver was called a scuba diver,u both opened my eyes to so much❤
Really hope woody sees this, but PLEASE don’t stop pausing I like your insight of stuff and ignore the people complaining you guys pausing the video and chatting about it is what makes your channel so good and thank you for all the good videos you and Guss put out you guys really changed my mind on cave diving and hope to meet you one day 🤙🏼
Wait.. people actually complain about frequent pausing? That’s exactly what I love about this channel! As a non-diver, Gus and Woody’s insight helps me understand what makes these videos so “bananas”!

"Don't be the Seahorse"

Loved that comment!
Woody’s facial expressions trying to hold his thoughts in was hilarious 😂🤣
Such an expressive face!!! Love it! I could feel his pain LOL
And gestures...
Woody was gasping for air like he was the one having a close call after holding it in for so long lol
😂😂😂
It's the bromance more so than the diving that I'm here for. These two are good eggs that put me in a good mood.
I come here for the reactions and pauses. The information you two share, which is invaluable to the general public and to divers like me, is what keep me coming back. Please keep it up.
The way Woody looks at his phone, makes those faces, and then holds it up to show us makes me think of a teenager sharing gossip with their friends 😂
Woody has such a wealth of knowledge and insight that it hurts to not have him react...but it's also pretty funny watching him hold it all in lol
Funny shit
"Just pick any fish and mimmick it, as long as it's not a seahorse! 😊 .... these people all chose seahorse 😔"
As soon as Gus said "they thought 'hmm we should go inside'" I immediately had to look at Woody's face lol
"These guy's all chose Seahorse..." (as their kicking technique.) God, I havent laughed that hard in so long.
It's so easy for newer divers to look at something like the wreck scenario and think its no big deal. I especially see this over-confidence in divers with a little bit of experience. Anyone else wave back at Woody when he says hello? Just me? Love this channel. So proud of Woody 🤣 that three minutes looked agonising.
"these people chose seahorse as their fish" LOL
I truly do not understand why people complain about the pauses? That's literally the whole point and what makes this so damn interesting!

Keep up the good work thank you
It’s Dive Talk. I enjoy the pausing and banter. If I want to watch the video I’d click the link. Thank you guys. Great job.
I hurt for Woody
Woody putting himself in time out for 3 minutes was hilarious. The facial expressions! 🤭😐😯😬😑😧🤐
I share this everywhere lol! Posted on instagram story few days ago! Watching it on tv in my studio during work …love u two and thank you for the amazing content
Now you need to do a video where woody only reacts using his face. That was hilarious.
Thank you.
THIS IS GOLDEN. THANK YOU! gus and Woody are legendary!!
Oh that was so hard for Woody. He would have found it easier to hold his breath for 3 minutes than his tongue. Nice work! Thumbs up and a tip of the hat to you, sir.
I love this talk show, woody is just so fun to listen to
Woody interrupts Gus within the first 10 seconds to say he won’t interrupt 🤣🤣. Seriously though, great content guys!! Love it!
I just found you guys the other day and I've been binging your vids nonstop since. I have a Severe fear of the dark and a (frankly inexplicable seeing as I love swimming and developed it out of the random blue) pretty bad phobia of deep water, so I doubt diving will ever be for me, let Alone cave diving
But hearing two experts talk about their passion not only in detail but in a very educational way that even laypeople can understand, and with the chemistry and banter you two have going on, is both entertaining and actually super relaxing in its own weird way. I think in one videos you guys yourselves put it that cave diving isn't inherently safe, but can be done safely, and hearing exactly how takes the edge off and lets me enjoy footage of these spectacular underground spaces without the anxiety I used to feel
cheers to woody for managing to contain himself for 3 whole minutes! definitely earned that like!!
Woody giving us a live demonstration of how to cope in a stressful situation 😂😂 focus on proper breathing!!
This channel is gonna blow up. Production and personalities are too good.
Thank you!
This just show how much i enjoy Woody’s comments. Him and Gus have great takes, doesn’t how long it takes to hear, they are great learning points
Congratulations, Woody! You did it! 😂 Love both your commentaries and happy to have Woody's before 3 minutes!
Omg I love you Woody! We are so alike!!! I’m so proud of you for lasting that long! I don’t know if I could have! I seriously love how realistic you 2 banter back and fourth! This is what I come to RUclips to see! I will always leave a like and comment after watching you two! Thank you!
this is so funny!! I love when both of you react though, thats the whole reason I watch!!
But you pause when you have something to say and just stare directly into the camera in silence for the remaining time
I always dive with a DSMB and reel, as well as backup DSMB and finger spool... just standard equipment as far as I'm concerned.
Best dive channel on RUclips
I have only been watching you guys for a couple of days and you guys have already sparked my interest for cave diving, I’m 15 I still have a couple of year until I can cave dive but you guys have made me want to not wait until I turn 18 because of how much fun and beauty are in those caves.
I found you guys a couple weeks ago and today I've been binging your videos. This one had me rolling watching Woodys phone countdown. I am absolutely petrified of caves and open water as an adult but absolutely fascinated by it!!
You guys are doing great! I don't dive, but have run the boat, ran coms and kept logs . Keep it up!
I really love your guys' positivity and humor both so unique and different, haha! ❤
Between the Woody silence challenge, river gold search and surprise Aussie guest interview, this channel is HITTING!
That must have been so hard for Woody haha. Great video guys Gus always finds great videos for you guys to watch.
Yes! Thank you!
I think that was a long 3 minutes for all of us 😂
Thanks to you, I am learning english! Listen to you is useful and funny in so many ways, thanks a lot and greetings from Spain!
I have watched yr channel alot recently and as soon as they went to go in my heart starts to beat faster fearing for their life.
Hahaha Gus ! Woody didn't even let you finish the intro and he was already reacting LOL. Love you both Woody!!!! Hahaha♥️
Love your channel ! It's very interesting:) I'm certain that I will never actually dive so it's something I would never see or understand without your videos, soooooooo Ty MUCH!!
Man as a Dutch diver who primarily dives in the Netherlands whenever I hear "Visibility is pretty bad" and it's like 5m+ I go
"Y'all don't know how good you have it" 😆💜
To those curious, average visibility here is around 3m.
Now I can dive into diving conversations like I actually know what I'm talking about🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣
Thanks woody and Gus,I didnt even know they have so many types of diving till I found this channel.
I always thought diving was just scuba diving, like every diver was called a scuba diver,u both opened my eyes to so much❤
Really hope woody sees this, but PLEASE don’t stop pausing I like your insight of stuff and ignore the people complaining you guys pausing the video and chatting about it is what makes your channel so good and thank you for all the good videos you and Guss put out you guys really changed my mind on cave diving and hope to meet you one day 🤙🏼
Oh and guss Incase you see this again... UFO’S ARE REAL 🤣😂😂
