- According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Sarasota County firefighters were called to Turtle Beach on Midnight Pass Road around 7:25 p.m. Sunday due to two swimmers in distress. One made it to shore safely and the other is missing.
Wow, I'm sorry, the water looks so rough and choppy, and it's very hard to see anyone or especially someones head trying to stay above the water, I hope the swimmers are found, I know it's scary all that water and the waves and panicking and nothing to hold onto, I'm praying for the missing people and their family member, hugs from South Carolina.🙏🏾😳💯🏊🌊💔🙏🏾
Rip current advisories !! PAY ATTENTION!! 🙏
WHY ON EARTH WOULD THEY GO INTO THE WATER WHEN IT'S ROUGH LIKE THAT.
IT'S MIND BOGGLING TO ME.
This so sad, choppy, it is important that everyone who is taking risks to go into theses choppy waters if there's no life guard, present, don't go out in the water and if you're a great swimmer it's not safe to do so, water comes with current, to the beach lover, they need to be clear of the deep water ,making sure you can see the bottom of the sea, clearly, it doesn't worth risking your life and others life, a drowning male or female who is drowning will drag you down in the water as panic set in , make sure a life guard is present on the beach, and stay closely to the shore. Condolences to the families of those who lost thier lives 🙏
I lifeguarded on a Gulf beach for many years. The rip currents are typically very strong and deceptive to the eye. In the spring months the wave action is still strong and so every spring we'd lose inexperienced swimmers to those currents. Spring time is deadly on the Gulf Coast, but you never hear about it, likely because it's bad for tourism.
I was out at Lido beach, FL which is only 20 min north of Turtle beach, and the surf was very rough. People need to be more sensible. The ocean is very unpredictable!
I was there, very sad
You weren't there.
I know.. because I actually was.
@rzn2258 No you weren't... I was.

Rough? it's the Gulf. Up North the waters are rough. Got to learn to swim. If your athletic ability is low, don't go.
I lifeguarded on the Gulf for years, and pulled many an athlete out of the rip currents. Some alive, some dead. Familiarity with the beach currents is key. Locals know this, which is why typically the ones who drown are tourists. Often times someone struggling in a washout that's 8-10 feet deep is just a few feet from a shallow sandbar, and, were they to swim parallel to beach instead of back toward land, they'd reach knee to waist high water.
