Brompton Bicycle World Championships 2016 in London

- Full highlights from my onboard camera at the 2016 Brompton Bicycle World Championships. Another amazing event with 600 competitors, I was racing bar to bar with the likes of David Millar, Mark Emsley & Michael Hutchinson.
I only managed 5 weeks training and didn't have a high enough gear for the near 30mph average (yes on a Brompton!). Unfortunately I had noting left in the tank for the final sprint, finishing 6 seconds off the win back in 15th place.
As much as I love riding down Pall Mall and in front of Buckingham palace, I wish Brompton would return to the old format at GoodWood or even Blenheim palace, it not only allows for more events/races to take place during the day/weekend, it also allows all Brompton owners to compete, the current ballot system isn't fair and has upset many of your very loyal customers, this includes my poor mother who has missed out for the past two years, it was the time of year she most looked forward to pre London. Brompton, If you must continue with Ride London, please hold another annual UK race event that's open to everyone!

Nice one Joe! Took me a while to figure out that weird noise in the video was my bike, not a bell in the crowd! Hahaa, definitely put a few people off people drafting me :P

Cool race and the best place to end up after anything of that kind the pub.
Loved it. Tried entering few times with no joy...Life's cruel and would love it to be open to all comers. They could do world champs first then the rest- similar to London Marathon
Yeah totally agree! I didn't get in this year, but mum did for the first time in years! Unfortunately Brompton care more for their image than customers, in the old days all Brompton owners could enter the world champs. Cheers

Joe, you seemed really undergeared there, what mods do you recommend in the gearing department? Thanks!
So for speed on the flat - straight handle bars low / seat post high and single speed? Expensive mods not necessary? Except for some tasty Joseph Kousac parts - tyres etc?
I think for any bike race I would take off my rack and Mudguards, I saw a few. I thought your cadence maybe too high, but I see Millar is similar

cheers Joe. It takes pride of place next to the one of Rob Warner. I met them at the DH world cup at Fort William earlier this year. They seemed really nice and down to earth. Have you thought of reviewing some older bmw M cars for your channel? I'm now considering an e46 m3 instead of m135i. cheers
Yeah I used to spend a lot of time with those two on the WC circuit many years ago, genuine nice guys! I'm hoping to get my hands on a tidy E46 M3 to review very soon, I'm sure it won't disappoint! I would love to try an M6 gran coupe too :-)

why are they wearing coats, is that to add drag on the rider to slow him down?
Which gear combination were you mainly using, 50x13, or something easier; also what do you think the riders' avg cadence was like the majority of the race? I ask because I can see you guys were hauling butt, and I just got a folding bike and would like to get faster, faster.. obviously practice will do that, but just wondering about the other aspects from someone who tore it up in London! I also noticed most people had their saddles way higher than their handle bars...Thanks!!
The top 10 all had different set ups but one of our riders was using a 60x11/13 ratio his average cadence was about 100 - 110rpm and 190 for the final sprint. Keep up the training!

I know it's mean to be fun but IMO there's way too many slow and dangerous riders in that race.
Those nuisance slow riders should of stayed on the left. Some of them are on the fast right lanes. Stupid!
