Keep in mind, they were considered "pure idols" back then, not idol/entertainer, so this had a blow especially those who were pure idol fans. This caused backlash for quite a bit, in which she ended up apologizing and got suspended for about a week. Her first few streams after that was her lowest point (stunted growth, low viewership, etc.), but ofc, as many stated, kaigai nikis went to the rescue. They subbed to her and watched her streams closely, and from there, her fanbase grew from roughly most japanese, to mostly foreigners. She was in tears too, coz of the love and support she got from kaigai nikis, so she studied a bit of english, basic ones, to communicate her streams. She also got help from Coco for translating one of her thank you messages to her foreign fans. Slowly but surely, the drama dissipated, and she soon grew her own JP fanbase.
I love how every time one of us Overseas Bros gets featured at an official event it’s always someone going above and beyond to show their support and love for Hololive in a positive, entertaining, and memorable way. It makes me happy to know that we make them happy.

Honestly, it IS pretty inspiring to see an overseas fan cheer as earnestly as he did because it's evidence of how much Towa loves to engage with her wider audience. Not that it's a slight or anything against her coworkers and other peers of the scene, but it's rare for a female vtuber (let alone one within a big company/big fanbase) network with overseas streamers as much as she does. That's not to mention how much she goes against gross fan pressure to also collab with guys in general. Leads to a much more meaningful and mature presence that fans actually look up to.
People like him is the reason why holofandom is one of the most amazing fandom in the world, less toxicity, less drama, just bois and girls enjoying free time to support their oshi
