    Beet leaves are packed with potassium. Extract one whole beet, two apples, one carrot to make, and you can add some ginger if you like to make a juice pack with lots of vitamins.

    My Mom was asking me how to grow them. I said "beets me" Now that I've got the Dad joke out of the way, I'm going to get some started in seed pods for this fall. I love beets and they're great for circulation and the liver. Never mind the pink pee XD it's harmless.

    Another good video. This is my first year. What I do with most of my seeds is place them between paper towels and put in plastic bags. I space them so they do not tangle and leave them and check after 1-2 days, They are that fact. I put my beets May 11 and are ready to put out today May 14. they were actually ready yesterday. As long as you plant them out early you do not have to harden off. This assures that you always get viable seeds, everyone takes because you put them in when germinated. Thank you

    Beet greens and stems make a great fresh salad, said greens as the main ingredient.
    The water beet roots are boiled in, are considered a juice in Mexico and served sweetened with a little sugar. I just drink it as is.
    The plant is a bianual, flowering and producing seed the second year. Just like carrots.

    If you boil your beets with the stems and leaves on, they will keep most of their nutrients and color and won't bleed out in to the water. They are sweeter that way but you will lose the use of eating the leaves.

I just discovered my garden centre sells 20 gram value packs of beet seeds. Need! I keep having to buy more and more to keep up with my ferocious apetite for them. Maybe i will just let a patch go to seed and see what i get. I buy different packs and mix the seeds. They're all good anyway.

    You might think this is a wee bit rough, but it works, in a half 44gal drum, where about half the soil is good sandy loam, the other half is cow manure that has been pulverized and just plonked on top, put a whole packet of beetroot seeds scattered evenly around the drum, water add some seasol liquid fert now and then, you will be surprised what happens, its amazing how many beets you will be able to farm out of such a small area, and they dont mind growing there, as you pull the top most or fastest growing beets, the ones on the bottom will then expand into the available space, great vegetable in Queensland, Australia

    One tip is to NOT THIN. I planted like a raised bed four feet wide by twenty feet with beets. You’re right they push each other. I made four rows and planted seeds every inch or two. Not thinning helped I believe in my case because when you have hundred degree weeks and the city or town only allows you to water twice a month for irrigation having those extra leaves and fairly dense it reduces evaporation. It was packed full of beets. There were some small and a few gaps but they were fairly close together. Of course we only planted them once at the start june we didn’t do several crops.

    • @koltoncrane3099
      @koltoncrane3099 2 года назад +1

      The other issue was we have a hundred houses using irrigation without water rights so the town ran out of water a month before the neighboring town. It was quite frustrating.

    • @GrowVeg

    I dont have a bulb for my beets/turnips and radish. but very lush leaves!

    • @GrowVeg

      They need plenty of sunshine and proper spacing. That should help with bulb formation.

    I've grown beets before, they're pretty easy to grow 🪴, just watch out for the nibbling voles! 🐭 They tend to knaw on the top of the roots, so protect the beets or keep your cat handy in the garden. 😺

    Beetroots subtly prolongs endurance because it allows the muscles to continue exercising using less oxygen than normal due to its Nitrate content. Lettuce and spinach cause similar effects. In essence, it helps to tolerate exercise more effectively. It also naturally lowers blog pressure. Who needs stations when the humble yet magnificent beetroot is at hand. When you actually look at a beetroot, you can tell by its colour that it will proactively feed all of your major organs. The young leaves are also excellent in salads. Bloody marvellous, I tell you. What is not to love?

    Tip: beets really need a pretty deep room for it to grow its fruit and leave room between other beets for about 2 inches

    I’ve never quite seemed to get beets any bigger then golfball size , the leaves will grow very thick and lush , which is great as I use it for salads but your beets were incredible in size !!

    • @GrowVeg
      @GrowVeg  4 года назад

      Just like on my part I guess! But I do think that beets are best harvested on the smaller size anyhow.

    We mostly use the greens from our beets and just keep snipping the greens from the plants for months. They are full of iron and vitamins.
